Anyone else got a flu type virus at the mo? Myself and partner have it, awaiting pcr results but lat flows have all come back negative so it's not covid. But my god I feel rough! Can hardly move , no energy, banging headache, sore throat, runny nose, neck aches. Feel like a wimp if it's just a cold but it's really knocking me for six, I'm unable to work. Anyone else ??

@PersonaNonGarter Well it's possible, but it's also possible that it's just a nasty cold/flu thing. Covid isn't the only thing that makes you feel ill. I've had Covid and I've had proper flu. The flu was much, much worse.

FfrothiCoffi · 10/09/2021 13:32

@PersonaNonGarter

You have coronavirus, OP.

The tests aren’t foolproof and this particular strain is evading them. Four of us in our house have it. Last week LFTs were negative. Then finally LFT positive so pcr test x4 taken. Of these, 3 were positive but the 4th was negative - clearly we all have the same symptoms which are, frankly, fucking horrible. You have my sympathies!

WTF? Other viruses still exist. All of our family had a nasty cold with the same symptoms as the OP last week, all 5 had negative PCR’s. 2 of us retested just to check, still negative. There is absolutely nothing to suggest that the OP has Covid. Many other viruses (whether coronaviruses, RSVs etc) cause the same symptoms.

Nah. Fiver says it’s Covid. The country is away with it.

Yeah it is. And also with numerous other illnesses caused by numerous other viruses, which are having a resurgence due to everyone having been locked away last winter.

Well whatever it is it can bugger off. Trying to care for a toddler whilst feeling like this is the pits !!!!!

I've been told this week by an A and E doctor, several nurses, two paramedics and also the tester at the Covid testing centre that there are multiple other nasty non-Covid illnesses flying around, including a nasty cold and the bronchiolitis virus, the latter of which is meaning a huge increase in the number of toddlers of babies currently hospitalised compared to a normal September. They've all said it's due to 1) not as many people as normal catching other viruses last winter and autumn as we were all locked down and 2) a massive resurgence in recent weeks of people circulating and socialising, and without masks.

Well I started the week with a sore throat that went pretty quickly. I then started to get a bit snotty and now have a tickly, irritating cough. I had a PCR on Wednesday which came back negative. I feel generally fine in myself though.

I agree that other viruses are doing the rounds.

Bronchiolitis virus and a nasty cold are often the same thing (RSV or Rhinovirus). They hit small children very hard and are VERY contagious.

Good news is that Moderna have trials into a combined flu/RSV/Covid mRNA vaccine. Covid may well have cured the common cold.

Wahey! I've been saying and praying from the beginning, if one upside to all this shiteness is a vaccine for the fucking horrendous common cold, I'll take it with both hands. Many colds are anything but mild, settle into the chest and sinuses and cause absoute misery and even death for the vulnerable. Here's hoping it's good riddance to colds.
