Anyone else got a flu type virus at the mo? Myself and partner have it, awaiting pcr results but lat flows have all come back negative so it's not covid. But my god I feel rough! Can hardly move , no energy, banging headache, sore throat, runny nose, neck aches. Feel like a wimp if it's just a cold but it's really knocking me for six, I'm unable to work. Anyone else ??

We've all had this cold too, gone down with it one by one. Negative LF and PCR. Mine started nearly two weeks ago with crushing exhaustion then developed into a heavy head cold, with raised temp, runny nose and sneezing and cough. It's improved but I'm so congested and feel short of breath. Rest of the family followed the same pattern, though dc not quite as bad.
I was sure it was COVID!

QueenFreesia2021 · 09/09/2021 21:47

Yes - DD’s and DH all loaded the cold, very sore throats and coughs. All feeling miserable, sore heads, achy, generally pretty shitty. Negative PCR tests.

Youmeanyouvelostyourkey · 09/09/2021 21:49

We thought We had bad colds. Nope, turned out its covid. That was a nasty surprise

Whattheflecker · 09/09/2021 21:50

The symptoms of those that test positive are virtually identical to those that don't. Wonder if this is Covid 'normalising' as a seasonal virus like Rhinovirus or RSV?

QueenFreesia2021 · 09/09/2021 21:56

Yes it’s strange. Other kids have the same symptoms in school and have tested positive

Timeforachangetoday12 · 09/09/2021 22:04

Same negative PCR and feel rubbish :( started as sore throat, then flu type symptoms and so tired! Left with sniffles and still feeling crap a week later!! No temperature.
I think as I haven’t had a cold for so long not sick enough not to work but just want to sleep!!

Mamascoven · 09/09/2021 22:20

Yes, currently got the worst cold Iv had in a long time. Sore throat, snotty blocked nose, banging headache, fatigued. Had covid 8 weeks ago and this is a million times worse.

Stasiland · 09/09/2021 22:31

@Mamascoven pretty much same symptoms I had on and off with long covid but went on for months...

idontlikealdi · 09/09/2021 22:37

Yep, ha d covid three weeks ago and now got a stinking cold, there are other things apart from covid

Sillyotter · 09/09/2021 23:20

Yup that’s also been me this week. I can’t work from home but 2 coworkers were coughing all over the place last week. I started with it on monday and ended up taking yesterday off work because I felt so awful and went for a pcr. Came back negative but already feeling much better today

Lockheart · 09/09/2021 23:34

I've had two stonking colds this year. One in June and one a couple of weeks ago.

Not Covid - negative PCRs (and LFTs, for what it's worth) all the way.

I don't normally take time off work for colds but these two knocked me for six so I had time off sick. I can WFH but my brain was so fogged I was more of a hindrance than a help to any of my team.

I think it's because I didn't get any mild colds over winter. Before June I hadn't been ill for over a year; staying at home and wearing masks meant I didn't pick anything up.

TheTempest · 09/09/2021 23:58

I did a couple of weeks ago and so did all of my household. Proper knocked me for 6 I’m only just feeling better now. Negative lfts and pcr’s 🤷‍♀️

Yes thank you I am aware there are other things Hmm

Pcr has come back negative today so guessing it's just a nasty cold 😔

Colds can be nasty. Last one I had, I stayed in bed 3 days, could hardly move head off the pillow.

Lots of people reporting that PCR tests are coming back positive up to 10 days/2 weeks after first symptoms.

Touloser · 10/09/2021 08:00

I'm on day 16 now - like other posters I've had multiple negative LTFs and PCRs. Thankfully I already had a week booked off work, as I would have had to take sick leave (for the first time ever!). The exhaustion and brain fog was so bad last Friday that I couldn't form a coherent sentence, and had to communicate through a series of mimes and moans

Kittykat93 · 10/09/2021 08:10

Feel so rough can hardly lift my head off the pillow, feel so guilty ringing in sick for what's essentially a cold urghhhh. Just want to do nursery run and go back to bed

This is interesting - did these people get a negative pcr initially and then go back for another when the symptoms continued, or did they wait a long time before testing? Would also be interesting to see if anyone who gets a neg pcr has developed any Covid antibodies subsequently.
Partey · 10/09/2021 08:32

Same symptoms here and negative PCR. Started as sinus pain mainly, then full blown head cold and had now dropped onto chest. DS has the same.

The cough is like nothing I’ve ever experienced, my ribs and stomach are aching from it. Bloody awful

QueenFreesia2021 · 10/09/2021 09:41

@Tailendofsummer - dd1 was tested on day 2 of symptoms at schools request. Dd2 was tested about 4 days after her cough started. Both have same symptoms and both negative.

FfrothiCoffi · 10/09/2021 10:06

I tested on day 2 of symptoms, then again on day 7 just to make sure. Both negative.

dontdoitlikethatdoitlikethis · 10/09/2021 10:07

Yes. Sore throat started on Saturday. Slight congestion on Sunday and sneezing. Monday felt ok. Tuesday developed a high temperature and feeling rubbish. Congestion in lungs and nose. Wednesday developed low oxygen levels and feeling rubbish. Thursday sent to hospital.

Have done three PCR tests this week, including one performed by nurse at hospital. All three are negative.

Mamascoven · 10/09/2021 12:27

@Stasiland
Would definitely have put it down to long covid but it appears my son brought it home from school last week as he was the first one to start with the snotty nose, then the other 2 & now me. My covid symptoms disappeared completely after a few days I was barely Ill at all.

thecatneuterer · 10/09/2021 12:33

Yes, exactly the same - proper flu symptoms, high fever, dreadful snot/congestion and just feeling dreadful. I think I'm on day 9 now and I still feel appalling, although the fever has gone. Negative PCR. And I gave it to my boyfriend who has now passed it round his workplace. All tested negative too.

alloalloallo · 10/09/2021 12:39

I had a proper stinker of a cold a few weeks ago.

Felt dreadful for a good week or so.

I had multiple negative LFTs but did a PCR anyway - came back negative. I wasn’t convinced it could be right as I felt so dreadful so did another PCR - negative again.

PersonaNonGarter · 10/09/2021 12:44

You have coronavirus, OP.

The tests aren’t foolproof and this particular strain is evading them. Four of us in our house have it. Last week LFTs were negative. Then finally LFT positive so pcr test x4 taken. Of these, 3 were positive but the 4th was negative - clearly we all have the same symptoms which are, frankly, fucking horrible. You have my sympathies!
