Just wondering if anyone who has tested positive has just had a mild case? Like just felt a bit off etc or is everyone usually quite poorly?

I tested positive for antibodies through work in June 2020 and never even knew I'd had it.
DH and both DS mild cases.

I'm enjoying the optimism of this thread as an antidote to some of the doom and gloom.

Whilst covid is undoubtedly a very serious illness for some it's really good to remember that, as Chris Whitty said way back in spring 2020, it's mild for the majority who catch it.

Sore tongue, headaches and a bit tired for a week, that was it

amicissimma · 31/08/2021 10:28

I only know 3 people who stayed in bed because of Covid, all in March/April 2020.

Everyone else I know or know of who's had it either felt a bit unwell and took things a bit easy, but mostly went about their lives normally, or hardly noticed it at all. A lot of people have said that, knowing they have it, they've been very alert to symptoms that they would hardly have noticed if they didn't know they had Covid.

Yes, I think so. I hope so. Mild symptoms that come and go. I wonder what strain it is? Positive PCR result yesterday.

I felt tired which is normal for me, but also had a snuffly nose. So I did a LFT that had a faint second line. I had one night sweat where I slept through it, but remember my top was soaked. I sneezed maybe three or four times a day until yesterday. Lost sense of smell yesterday too.

Feeling achy, but I don't need to sleep. I am resting as much as possible, but have done some gardening and housework.

Day 6 today. Worrying what symptom will be next though!

I had covid at Christmas last year. I work in a school where it just took almost everyone down in the last couple of weeks of term. I was told to isolate when my bubble closed, had a tickly cough for about half an hour so went for a pcr test and it came back positive. After that I didn’t cough, nor did I have a high temp at all during the illness. I felt run down (but who doesn’t feel run down in the last two weeks of December?) but under normal circumstances I would have carried on at work and gone to bed earlier for a few nights in a row and that would have been it. My main symptom was joint pain which was unpleasant but other than that it was extremely mild. I gave it to my husband who had cold like illness. We were both fine after our ten days of isolation (and would have probably felt fine even sooner if we’d have been allowed some fresh air!).

Of course most people have mild cases.

HungryHippo11 · 05/09/2021 18:27

Pretty much everyone i know had it mildly:
Both my daughters had cold symptoms for a few days
My niece had diarrhoea for a few days
My husband's friend lost his sense of smell, no other symptoms
My brother in law had it with no symptoms at all.

You must know by now that many people have it with no symptoms or mild cold symptoms. Its just the people who have it badly who we hear about and/or go on about it.

HumdrumGuga · 05/09/2021 18:30

What's the chances of the PCR being wrong, when taken at the appropriate time with symptoms (cough)?

Normally I don't get too unwell with colds but this is the heaviest most shittiest cold have ever had. Not the flu as can get out of bed. Awful throat, like glass and only soothed when drinking, bad cough, constant sneezing, runny nose. But negative PCR. Didn't have a cold last year so guessing just have no immunity to this.

Angrymum22 · 05/09/2021 18:33

Got it at the moment. I had it early 2020 very bad cough and lost sense of smell for 3mnths . This time sinuses painful and slightly raised temp which is causing aching muscles. Currently sat in a nice cool air conduit at and feeling much better. I’m picking up my son who is double jabbed and has just recovered from it weeks ago. I didn’t catch it from him though. Had a positive contact last week. Weird how you can live in the same house as some but not catch it. DS caught it at Boardmasters.

FMSucks · 05/09/2021 18:41

Just recently over Covid. Whole household got it. I thought mine was my usual sinus infection until I lost my sense of smell a few days in. I would describe it as worse than a cold but milder than a (proper) flu. Was very tired coming to the end of it but all back to normal now. Two boys 11 and 13 breezed through it. Wouldn’t even know they had it.

DH had “man Covid” so obviously had it the worst Grin his developed into a chest infection but on the mend now and no long term damage done.

@shouldistop

A third of people will have no symptoms at all and the vast majority have a mild case.
Is it still the case with Delta that 1/3 of people with it won't know they have it (unless they randomly test)?
