Anyone who's lost taste due to covid.....

Has it helped you stop eating for the sake of it? I am currently isolating as I tested positive for covid on Sunday. My smell and taste only went on Tuesday and I'm finding it a struggle to even eat anything as I can't taste a thing. I have been living on soup. Previous to this I would eat and eat just for the sake of it. Has anyone found that this has changed post covid?

Yep, just eating when I’m hungry at the moment
No point eating nice stuff that tastes of nothing,

RainBow725 · 26/08/2021 17:23

Yes. I'm two weeks post positive test and still have very little appetite. And I haven't eaten any chocolate in that time which is completely unheard of!

Kindleandacuppa · 26/08/2021 17:27

I'm currently on day 7 with covid and lost my taste/smell yesterday. I am still trying lots of different food regardless 🤣 then moaning I can't taste it 🤣

Waxonwaxoff0 · 26/08/2021 17:27

Annoyingly no. I lost my taste 10 days ago and I thought it would help me lose weight but my appetite is still there! Angry

Lubrana061302 · 26/08/2021 17:28

I am finding it so bizarre to get absolutely no enjoyment out of eating. I literally eat when my stomach starts growling and that's it. Even at that it's the bare minimum as it seems to pointless.

I can taste beef hula hoops!
Not much else though 😒 salt, sweet aaaaand that's about it. My 10 days is up on Sunday.
I've been thinking more about textures and craving flavours I've not wanted for a long time, like strawberry nesquick and werthers

Lubrana061302 · 26/08/2021 17:42

I can tell if something is spicy because of the sensation on my tongue but that's about it. So weird. What about alcohol? My kids are driving me nuts today and I'm counting down the mi utes to 7 o'clock when it's their bedtime but I don't even think I will as Where's the enjoyment? anyone else still drinking alcohol? Are you even supposed to if you e tested positive? Didn't even think about that......

Counting down to bedtime so I can have a glass of wine that should say

Twilightstarbright · 26/08/2021 17:43

Yes, it’s less fun eating when you can’t taste it!

Lubrana061302 · 26/08/2021 17:46

So I guess the question is - when our fast returns will we all go back to eating how we did before? Which in my case was far too much

Lubrana061302 · 26/08/2021 17:46

Taste not fast. What's wrong with me?

I'm about to have a G&T
I shall report back Gin

Trinacham · 26/08/2021 17:53

Yep - tested positive on Monday, and the enjoyment I've lost from tasting food has decreased my appetite. I keep forgetting and sit down excited to eat, and then instantly disappointed when I take a bite then remember! I'm trying to eat healthy as I'm 18 weeks pregnant so it is good that I'm not tempted by things I would usually be!

Tinkerbellfluffyboots79 · 26/08/2021 17:57

My head is banging and I can hardly keep my eyes open, alcohol not on radar at the moment. Getting hungry though, can’t be bothered cooking. Enjoy your g&t @Seagullsstopit

Seagullsstopit · 26/08/2021 18:20

I can taste it a little but it's a bloody strong one!

Lubrana061302 · 26/08/2021 18:24

Definitely no point in me having a glass of wine then :-(

I drank alcohol but I only suffered mildly with Covid. I can taste the alcohol, but not the flavour!

I think I'm starting to get my smell and taste back slightly. 12 days after positive test. I can smell strong smelling things like vinegar and pepper. Just had a cup of coffee and could just about taste the coffee.

My friend had Covid in May and still hasn't got her taste back. She said one bonus was being able to drink much cheaper wine than she used to!

nowanotherone · 26/08/2021 18:33

I was exactly the same when I had covid and lost sense of taste and smell. Lost 5lb. Then when it came back I started eating like before again and put it all back on!

Seagullsstopit · 26/08/2021 18:50

I'm not enjoying the gin.
I'd leave the wine, it'll be a waste Sad

YukoandHiro · 26/08/2021 18:52

Not the same but when I was pregnant I had gestational diabetes and so had to measure every bit of carb and really plan my meals and prick my finger an hour after eating anything to make sure my blood sugar levels were ok and keep the baby safe. I had to eat three meals meals and three snacks at set times every day. It took all the joy out of food and really stopped any mindlessness around food - and luckily some of that mindset has stuck around. I've put weight back on though now the restrictions are lifted...

Kylorey · 26/08/2021 18:56

Lack of appetite is a symptom of covid. My taste and smell and appetite went when I had it. But when my taste and smell went again 3 months later, there was no accompanying change of appetite.

HesterShaw1 · 26/08/2021 18:58

I tested positive on Tuesday and yesterday my sense of smell utterly vanished. I can just about taste the very edges of salty stuff. I'm not a massive eater, but I do enjoy food so it's quite odd. Much more disconcerting is the total lack of smell though - usually it's such an acute sense for me. My ExH used to complain my "overactive sense of smell" Hmm :o I tested myself this morning by sniffing some milk I knew had gone off ages ago - nope, nothing at all. Dead weird.

Did you have Covid twice or did you just randomly lose your smell and taste again? That's worrying!
Lubrana061302 · 27/08/2021 10:07

I didn't have the wine. I've woken up today feeling much much better, like almost normal apart from the taste and smell. I really hope it doesn't last that long.... really want my Friday night glass of wine ;-) worst thing for me is not being able to tell right away when my almost 2 year old has done a poo in his nappy. I test every time by sniffing the nappy - not even the slightest whiff!

I've had a bad dose of covid, double jabbed but still ended up in hospital.

For about 8 days I ate almost nothing, it was strange, my stomach was growling for food but when I tried to eat it felt like everything was dry and I couldn't swallow.
I kept thinking about how much I normally eat, not just meals but wine, chocolate etc and the quantities seemed huge.
Taste came back at 14 days and so did appetite. I have lost 12lb in weight in under 3 weeks and I didn't need to lose it.
Quite interesting to see how long it takes me to put the weight back on. I couldn't face alcohol just yet but had a big bowl of ice cream last night.
