Is Covid rife now ?

Me and my family are double vaccinated and have all just had Covid, so i do have confirmation bias at the moment, but is Covid just rife now in the UK?

So many people in my company have it too, (office job, work from home and go in very periodically).

Does it seem to have spread where you are too?

Don't know anyone with it in my city. Spoke to my hairdresser today who has 100s of clients and he doesn't know any vaccinated people who've had it recently. Lots of cases amongst locals in Cornwall a few weeks ago apparently, where we were holidaying. I think maybe the cities did get some immunity last year?

Spyro1234 · 11/08/2021 19:34

No one around me or my family 🤷

Why?

Stanlie · 11/08/2021 19:39

Yes, loads of people in their twenties round here have it or have just got over it. I heard of one today (unvaccinated) who went to a party on Sunday with more than 400 people there. Tested positive yesterday

TwilightSkies · 11/08/2021 19:40

In Northern Ireland. It’s bad here now. I know 6 separate healthy people around my age (mid 30s), who have been hospitalised and ventilated. A few teenagers, no symptoms.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 11/08/2021 19:43

SW - case numbers up hugely here and I know more people with it than at any time previously, but no one has been seriously ill thank god.

DwangelaForever · 11/08/2021 19:44

I had it in July and at the time I had it my postcode was the number 1 postcode in EUROPE for highest covid cases per 100 of the population Blush

Theimpossiblegirl · 11/08/2021 19:47

South West seaside town
It's moving through the teens at an alarming rate and then onto their families. My 2 tested positive on Monday (pcrs) following faint lines of lfts, and I've just had a faint line on my lft after testing negative Monday (pcr).
Girls have coughs and have had a night of feverish sleep. We all feel coldy.
They've had 1 vaccine, I've had 2.
I don't know if it's the socialising or the fact they mostly work in hospitality. Probably a perfect storm of both.

finova · 11/08/2021 19:51

Loads last month of school, calmed down now.
My sister’s town was really low and now really high.

Muchmorethan · 11/08/2021 19:59

Loads were l live. Hospital admissions have jumped. Struggling for beds again

Stanlie · 11/08/2021 20:06

It's interesting that with this variant there's a short time between becoming infected and getting a positive test

Theimpossiblegirl · 12/08/2021 11:48

How do you find out which variant you have? I'm assuming it's the Delta but would be interested to find out.

You can't, they test some to monitor variants, but not all.

I would bet large amounts you have delta due to % of cases.

We assumed, based on it being almost completely dominant in both the area that we live and the area that we think we caught covid by the Sanger data.

And because nobody contacted us to ask where we might have caught our strange new variant.

Although the number of cases they are sequencing is way down lately, so it is only an assumption.

What an unnecessary ODFOD

Grin
That's a very good point.

Iknowtheanswer · 12/08/2021 15:19

We've had 3 out if 6 in our office with it in the last 4 weeks. I was one of them, and mine resulted in a secondary chest infection which has still not entirely shifted (double jabbed, but asthmatic).

Despite having loads of clients with it in the last few waves, this is the first time it's impacted us directly. Definitely spread by the younger age group.

6 ventilated in their 30s? Thats awful. I'm sorry about that. Are they ok now? Can I ask if they were vaccinated? Not to criticise if they weren't or that it makes any difference to their families. Just interested - and it might put my mind at rest...or not.
liveforsummer · 12/08/2021 15:46

Certainly seems to be here and has been for a good couple of months or more now

User135644 · 12/08/2021 18:11

Not funny, just a strain that’s more than twice as infectious as the original.

If it wasn't for the vaccines we'd be in lockdown right now with high death tolls and hospitals fucked.

time4anothername · 12/08/2021 23:50

@ActonSquirrel

No. London here and I don't know anyone who has had it lately among my friends and colleagues since vaccination

I've known many people isolated as they were pinged and then never tested positive

are you in Acton? That's strange because I know more cases now than through the whole time, lots of double jabbed AZ people from W London postcodes. Perhaps it goes through friendship groups and others close by are untouched. Two friends age around 50 been hospitalised for oxygen support in Imperial Trust hospitals in last couple of weeks and both said they were in very busy full wards. They avoided ICU, perhaps because they were vaccinated.

@Theimpossiblegirl We were told that we had Delta by Test and Trace but that was back in June when it was just taking over as dominant strain and we were in a hotspot. Asked if the kids had travelled to India recently or had contact with anyone who had.
