Ds has been ill since Monday. He kept testing negative with the lateral flow until Friday when it turned positive. Pcr confirmed positive
.
Dd, Dh and I have no symptoms and are continuing to test negative. We are self isolating. Ds is living his best life confined to his room with me delivering snacks to his door when he texts me.

We are due to go on holiday in a week.
If dd, Dh and I continue to be free of the virus we can go. If any of us get it now we can't.

Please fill me with hope by giving examples of when only one member of your household has the virus and everyone else escaped it . I really need this holiday ( Uk)

My dd had it but the other 4 of us in the house apparently did not.

How’s it going OP? We’re on Day 10 & all still negative so freedom beckons (I hope!) tomorrow for all of us including DS1 who has thankfully had mild symptoms throughout & feels fine..

It has been very strange to have only seen him through the window of his bedroom for 10 days so I’m hoping when he does a lateral flow later today he’ll be clear I’ll be able to give him a hug in the morning once we’re all out of the isolation period! Hope you’ve managed to swerve it so far..

You’re right re the vaccines primary function being the reduction of symptoms (& chance of hospitalisation etc), there is research showing that the chances of infection & transmission are also reduced. Although it does seem that there are a lot of people who have misunderstood & think they can’t become infected at all - which is a bit of a worry as I think we all need to continue to take as many precautions as practical, especially if someone in the household tests positive, they’re not magic vaccines sadly!

This imperial college article has some interesting data analysis..

My spouse and DD tested positive on the same day, and we made it through isolation without anyone else testing positive without me or the other 3 kids taking any particular measures beyond basic hygiene - my DDs share a room & I spent more time within 2 meters with both of them as DD crashed on the window seat near where I work for a few days before she perked back up again.

Our lodger-friend did pretty much isolate in his room and kept being sure he had it as he had some symptoms my spouse had & is the most pessimistic person I know, but all his tests were negative.

When I had covid no one else in my house got it. Inbelievable considering the first day I felt rough (non covid symptoms but I felt achey) I took an lft before going to work and it was negative. My DH and I had sex that night - woke up and couldn’t smell or taste - PCR confirmed covid. Neither my husband or out three kids got it / who despite several warning followed me round the house constantly

Happy to report we are all well and three of us tested negative on lateral flow tests yesterday . DS tested positive yesterday but says he feels a lot better and has got his appetite back. Feeling cautiously optimistic

My 18 year old daughter had it at the start of July. Isolated in her room, wore a mask if she came out. The rest of the household (double vaxxed) escaped infection.

Good luck.
