Give me some hope

Ds has been ill since Monday. He kept testing negative with the lateral flow until Friday when it turned positive. Pcr confirmed positive
.
Dd, Dh and I have no symptoms and are continuing to test negative. We are self isolating. Ds is living his best life confined to his room with me delivering snacks to his door when he texts me.

We are due to go on holiday in a week.
If dd, Dh and I continue to be free of the virus we can go. If any of us get it now we can't.

Please fill me with hope by giving examples of when only one member of your household has the virus and everyone else escaped it . I really need this holiday ( Uk)

Well, you and your DH will have an added advantage of being vaccinated, so that will reduce your chances of contracting it.

I guess just limit close contact, and keep everything crossed!

DS1 tested positive last Saturday. He had no symptoms & a negative lateral flow - the PCR taken two hours after the negative lateral flow was positive & he developed mild symptoms on Monday. we tested as several of his friends had tested positive, including one he’d stayed with on Wednesday.

We isolated him in his room from Saturday & he is using a separate bathroom which he goes to with prior warning, masked & I spray the corridor with anti-viral aerosol. All meals delivered via his window. He’s 17 btw, so fine with this! The rest of us a week later are still testing negative on lateral flows with no symptoms. Not out of the woods yet but hoping for the best - it can be done OP!

Thanks. We are a bit concerned that Ds only isolated from the rest of us after he had the positive test.. while he had symptoms and was presumably infectious. But he is 17 so doesn't come out of his room too often anyway!

Thanks @Itsprobablynotcominghome .. I hadn't realised that the vaccine reduces the chance of infection but apparently it does.. so another glimmer of hope

dd2 has covid. Nobody else does.

We haven't isolated from her really. Dh and I are both double jabbed.

I think we were lucky with our timing tbh. Test & trace told me that we should do our PCRs on Day 4 after our last potential exposure, which we did, as that’s the most likely time for it to be picked up if you are incubating it (& presuming no symptoms yourself by Day 4, if so test earlier obviously!). There is still a chance of exposure as he’s in the same house but it’s minimal with the measures we’re taking. If you get PCRs for Tuesday & they come back negative hopefully you’ll escape it OP!

I tested positive, only one other member of my household of 5 tested positive & they had no symptoms.

4 of us had Covid and DH didn't catch it from us. He is double vaccinated with Pfizer.

I know a lot of people where only 1 or 2 family members got it, unfortunately we all got it (I’m double jabbed)

I didn’t catch it from my son and didn’t distance from him at all, he even slept in my bed 👍 🤞🏼 X

DS and DD1 both got it, DD2, DH and I didn’t.

We isolated them in their rooms, delivered food to them etc once we knew, but prior to that when they were presumably infectious, we were hugging them etc as normal.

I'm vaccinated but caught it of one D's, my DH and 1 other DC caught it (a week after 1st DC) My other DC didn't catch it at all 🤷 so I guess it's just a waiting game unfortunately

My niece had it and isolated in her room (also a teenager). Nobody else got it - her dad was double vaxxed with Pfizer and her mum had had a single dose of AZ at the time. Brother unvaccinated as too young. She had sole use of one bathroom and wore a mask when she used it. She went into the garden sometimes for fresh air but everyone else got out of the way first!

We are still all well and still testing negative. Ds is feeling better and eating like a horse.

I know plenty of families where only one person got it including a husband and wife who were sharing a bed.

My DS (13) tested positive back in May. Nobody else in the family got it despite DS being around us all the time. My DH and I had only had one dose of the vaccine one week earlier. So it’s definitely not inevitable that you’ll get it. Fingers crossed for you.

It's very interesting that there are so many people who don't seem to catch covid even though sharing a house with someone who's positive. Especially given the Delta virus is so infectious.

I hope scientists are researching what seems to be natural immunity in some people.

Friend of mine's daughter got covid last month. Passed it on to her sister (but they are both under 10 and very close so no attempt to separate them) but both double vaccinated parents did daily LFTs throughout and at least one PCR and all clear.

We were in a similar situation a couple of weeks back and are a family of six. My Ds came home from Uni and got symptoms. None of us got it but then were weren't mingling with him prior to him getting symptoms so I guess that helped.

We've had covid in the house twice, once in April and again about 5-6 weeks ago. Both times it didn't spread to anyone else

My son tested positive nearly y two weeks ago, confirmed with a PCR a few dsys later, we live in a small two bedroom house with one bathroom, me and dh are both doubly vaccinated, we came out of isolation yesterday, neither of us had a a a positive lateral flow test

My niece (12) was positive a few weeks ago and although she mostly stayed in her room, the rest of the family didn’t fully isolate from her. Her brother (11) and both parents (double vaxxed with AZ) didn’t appear to catch it. They all did a PCR test and also regular lateral flows and had no symptoms.
