I'm thinking the average poster generally a lot more concerned and anxious than the average person, but that might just be my biases at play.

Also agree with icedcoffees that online forums tend to get dominated by a small number of very prolific posters (who will generally have more extreme views), whereas IRL if you're only talking to a handful of people you'll usually be more aware that there's only a few of them. If that makes sense.
