Being made to wear masks.

SeriouslyHateMasks · 22/07/2021 20:23

For some reason, I can't really explain why, I just hate wearing masks. I absolutely HATE them. Aside from this, I have willingly followed all the rules and I worked in a key role throughout all the pandemic. Not NHS, more supply chain. I have to wear a mask all day at work and I hate it.

Anyway, I have been out of England for the past 2 weeks and was looking forward to ditching the mask. Except, I can't. Whilst I was away it turns out our town council did a survey and they are encouraging everyone to still wear masks. So, I went to the shops today and everywhere I went I had to wear a mask. I went to the supermarket too and every single person had one on, so I had to follow suit or probably get an earful.

I feel so gutted. I totally respect anyone's right to wear a mask, but they are no longer enforced by law and I shouldn't have to wear one if I don't want to. If we have to wear one now, then when exactly is this going to stop?

I have not once taken a supermarket slot during the pandemic and left it for others more in need. I just now feel f^ck it. I will buy everything online and get it delivered if I have to continue wearing a mask everywhere I go. Also, what is the point of me getting double vaccinated if I have to carry on wearing this on my face in 30 degree heat.

Don’t wear one anymore then you can stop whining

EileenGC · 22/07/2021 20:27

As you probably know, being double vaccinated doesn’t mean you can’t carry it or pass it on to others. I’m not in the UK but it’s madness that masks aren’t mandated by law anymore, when you see how high the cases are.

If you don’t want to wear one, don’t. Like you say, it’s not mandated by law. Plus, if you’re wearing a cloth mask instead of FFP2/surgical, it’s almost as effective as not wearing one.

gardeninggirl68 · 22/07/2021 20:27

you dont have to

i work in retail and our customers are ditching them....many are. just dont wear it, nobody can do a thing!

Baluchistan95 · 22/07/2021 20:28

Encouraging someone to wear a mask is not the same as making someone wear a mask. Personally, I have never worn a mask and have no intention of doing so in the future. Nipped into my local Asda today and was shocked at just how many people were still wearing them. Crazy!!

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 22/07/2021 20:28

As far as ive seen lots of shops have said they prefer masks to be worn, but they won’t be enforcing it

Plus they cant cos its not legal

I wear a mask but if you really dont want to i think you just have to brush off any comments you might get

NailsNeedDoing · 22/07/2021 20:29

Try and ignore what other people might be thinking, and just go out without your mask. I think once a few people start ditching them when they can, others will feel more confident to do the same. I think lots of people are only still wearing them because they don’t want to be confronted by other people who think it’s their business.

Twickerhun · 22/07/2021 20:29

I also dont want to wear a mask but rates are high and people feel safer, and indeed probably are safer, if I do. So I suck it up for the sake of community. For the duration of a shopping visit I think you’ll live.

I wore a mask on public transport today, it was hotter than Satan’s armpit but hey if it helped others?!

EileenGC · 22/07/2021 20:30

It’s not crazy, the majority of people I know still want to protect themselves and those around them.

If I test positive on one of the 5 tests I do at work each week, and have to isolate, I will lose half a month’s pay. That’s why I’m not ditching my mask anytime soon.

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 22/07/2021 20:31

Arse

I said I wouldn’t go on a mask thread cos the insults and stupid comments (both ways 😀) wind me up and ive blown it already

I’ll go away and lurk…pretend I wasn’t here, its not like i ever say anything particularly insightful

WouldBeGood · 22/07/2021 20:32

Just stop wearing one

eeyore228 · 22/07/2021 20:33

Then don’t wear one.

Honey12346 · 22/07/2021 20:34

Just stop wearing it

UmteenthUser · 22/07/2021 20:38

More people seem to be wearing them in supermarkets than in shops where you might do a quick browse in our town, hence only about 50% in Next and M&S clothes area which are not that busy but nearly everyone in Waitrose. I also went to IKEA and that was mostly mask wearing but it is a busy place and people are likely to spend a while in there

lannistunut · 22/07/2021 20:41

If you have such an issue don't bloody wear one. But know that you're doing the wrong thing, unless you've a decent reason/exemption.

Sick of the bloody mask moaning.

Noterook · 22/07/2021 20:41

No one told you to wear a mask, you did because you assumed someone would. That sounds like a tiring way to live, just don't wear one if you don't want to.

BogRollBOGOF · 22/07/2021 20:42

Stop wearing it.
Masks did not prevent this wave gathering momentum, and it will be other factors that cause it to plateau out and decline (mainly the most suceptible age group gaining immunity through exposure and vaccination).

LynetteScavo · 22/07/2021 20:44

Then don't wear one.

I still wear one because a double jabbed friend has felt quite poorly with Covid this week.

It's not the law, if you don't like a company's policy shop
shop elsewhere.

Whiskycav · 22/07/2021 20:46

No one said anything to you. No one told you to wear one. You chose to wear one. You wanted to fit on with everyone else.

Do you feel other people should stop wearing one, so you feel more comfortable to not wear one?

And wether you did or didn't take a supermarket slot, is irrelevant.

IvorHughJarrs · 22/07/2021 20:47

I still wear mine as, if patient facing NHS are still wearing them, they're still essential in my view. If I can wear one all day in work to protect patients then I can wear it for a short burst round a supermarket to protect others. Shame not everyone is the same

EmergencyHydrangea · 22/07/2021 20:49

Stop whining. Wearing a mask is no ones idea of fun

UmteenthUser · 22/07/2021 20:53

Just because the council are encouraging it doesn't mean that you have to wear one, everywhere is encouraging it because Boris told them to

canigooutyet · 22/07/2021 20:53

You get used to the stares and people trying to convince you to wear a mask. Been dealing with this shit ever since they became legal.
At least now because it's not a legal requirement the nosy fuckers can no longer demand to know why.

MercyBooth · 22/07/2021 20:53

I know still want to protect themselves and those around them

But only from Covid. Fuck everything else.

littlejalapeno · 22/07/2021 20:56

Time to but your big girl pants on and get on with it. Many people have to do stuff they hate everyday, literally nobody likes wearing a mask but somehow manage to without whinging.

GolfEchoRomeoTangoIndia · 22/07/2021 20:56

I grant you that masks in 30 degree heat are less appealing than in the winter when they keep my nose and chin toasty. But don’t worry, it’ll be cooler and wetter by Monday.
