He's a fucking joke who will be the death of the Labour Party.

Opposition my arse.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 21/07/2021 17:56

Might have been a lateral flow test done at lunchtime after symptoms appeared, came up positive and then he was told by his wife and went home. No way of knowing yet whether he was aware of symptoms before leaving the house this morning.

He went home to isolate as soon as he was informed as I understand it
sashagabadon · 21/07/2021 17:58

To be fair he might not have known immediately.

Choux · 21/07/2021 17:58

He tested this morning and was negative.

Went to Parliament and did PMQs at 12.

Afterwards gets call from wife to say child is positive.

Goes home to self isolate.

What don't you understand?

Why so rude???

There was no mention of this being a LFT or his child being asymptomatic.

Chill...

I thought his children were primary age, so wouldn’t be doing LFD tests?

This.

Chances are it was an LFT and he went home to isolate once told. Child may not have woken up til after he'd left and only then been tested. Possibly a quick lft in meantime whilst sorting a pcr, if he had symptoms.

I tested positive without the normal symptoms. I actually was in hospital a where my test was done. I didn't know it was going to be positive as I didn't have a cough, high temperature it lost my sense of taste/smell. Infact the day before I was teaching all morning but left to go to the doctors - where I was rushed to hospital for non Covid reasons. Turned out those non Covid reasons were actually Covid complications!

I was on a full mixed ward all day and night before we knew. Never been moved out of a ward to an isolation room, so fast as that morning!

Dh was at work when I phoned him to tell him I'd tested positive at hospital. He'd been in meetings during the morning and came home as soon as he heard.

Dd has seen a friend outside and had to come home to isolate.

Likewise my friend was also at work when I let him know. He told his line manager, brought his lesson to a close and came home but he'd been teaching all morning. The friend's children were at school all morning and came home once told.

megletthesecond · 21/07/2021 18:17

Apparently his child said his food tasted weird so tested then.

Lots of people have LFTs at home though.

Maybe they were going to see someone more vulnerable so thought they'd check.

Maybe child had been a contact and was isolating so thought they'd do one of the recommended tests and it came back positive. Anyone who is a contact is now advised to get a test.

Maybe he woke up with symptoms and they did a quick test whilst organising a PCR. Surely it's better to know if it's positive ASAP to reduce others being in contact - so doing it in addition to a pcr.

Lots as of reasons it can happen this way.

And to the op - why would the details include information such as which test and what symptoms the child had? KS has gone home to isolate as soon as being told, therefore on the face of it he has done the right think, not tried to avoid isolation, etc.

How was @Choux being rude? You're implying Starmer was up to something nefarious and Choux simple explained what probably exactly happened.

jgw1 · 21/07/2021 18:36

So Kier doesn't have the special immunity from isolating that Boris does, is that the story here?

ilovesooty · 21/07/2021 18:43

Of course he doesn't have special immunity. He's isolated several times this year already.

Orf1abc · 21/07/2021 18:49

Dad went to work.
Child felt a bit ropey so took a test.
Mum called dad and told him child positive.
Dad goes home and will stay there for ten days.

Labour can't win the next two elections (at least) but I don't think KS and his covid response in this situation is a main reason somehow...

JassyRadlett · 21/07/2021 19:23

There was no mention of this being a LFT or his child being asymptomatic.

But neither was there a mention of PCR or the child being symptomatic, but naturally you jumped to the worse option?

borntobequiet · 21/07/2021 19:31

Very weird thread title. I thought it might be about snogging aides/awarding contracts to dodgy acquaintances/negotiating and signing international treaties that are either not properly understood or undertaken in bad faith. But no. It’s about having a child test positive for Covid.
What a disappointment.

Uramaki · 21/07/2021 19:35

Nah this is clutching at straws. There's no evidence of any wrong doing.

What Covid response? He's been in lockstep with Johnson the entire time.

Labour are currently Tory lite.

newnortherner111 · 21/07/2021 20:28

Mr Johnson did not even think of the risk of Covid to the Queen. Mr Johnson wanted to use a scheme to dodge self-isolation. By contrast Mr Starmer goes straight home when one of his children tests positive.
