Completely ridiculous ideas about Covid vaccine

Anon778833 · 18/07/2021 19:10

Name change because this is so ridiculous it’s outing.

My ex and I broke up because of our differing views on Covid. He’s anti-vaccine and a whole host of other things.

We have missed each other and wanted to give things another try because we have a baby.

However, he thinks that if we have sex he will ‘catch spike proteins’ from my body fluids because I’ve had the covid vaccine (he hasn’t)

He started kissing me and then wiped his mouth because he thinks he can catch spike proteins from saliva.

I don’t think we’ll get back together needless to say.

Does anyone know where this ridiculous idea comes from?

Who knows or dares to dream?

Some levels of batshittery are best left unexamined

Sounds really odd. Me and DH don't always agree on everything or have identical views, but if he came out with a load of conspiracy nonsense I'd be out (to be clear, I don't think everyone who isn't comfortable having the jab is into conspiracies at all, but thinking it will transmit via saliva is ridiculous).

Sorry to hear this OP.

Cornettoninja · 18/07/2021 19:30

I think the idea that vaccinated people are ‘shedders’ originated in the US and is more to do with the Pfizer/moderna vaccines and the fact it’s an MRA vaccine. The idea (I think) is that the MRA vaccine rewrites your DNA to create more spike proteins.

It’s bollocks. You deserve better.

Katekarate · 18/07/2021 19:34

Sounds like you were vaccinated against a dickhead as well as covid! Two for the price of one

Backofbeyond50 · 18/07/2021 19:36

Everyone who had the vaccine will be dead within 2 years apparently.

Backofbeyond50 · 18/07/2021 19:37

Sorry I totally misread your OP.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 18/07/2021 19:38

I saw someone on here saying that the spike proteins in the vaccine could snap off and lodge in your brain.

30degreesandmeltinghere · 18/07/2021 19:39

Is he an anti vaxxer in general? Babies need jabs op!! Maybe an urgent chat needed....

I don't know whether is passes via saliva or not, but it's not completely impossible that it doesn't. Isn't scientist say that breast feeding mother's could pass antibodies created by the vaccine to their babies, giving the babies some protection. If it can be passed via milk it could be passed via saliva. To me if it does this is a good thing, giving those anti vaxxers some protection haha
Anon778833 · 18/07/2021 19:58

Yes he’s been watching all this nonsense online. It drove me mad over the quarantines. He believes the thing about everyone being dead.

Possibly from the exact same thread that was posted a few weeks ago?

FastFood · 18/07/2021 20:04

Well it's not true for alcohol, heroin or whatever you shouldn't consume whilst you're breastfeeding.
I've never heard of someone being high because of having kissed a heroin-user.

TeddyBearsPicnic89 · 18/07/2021 20:07

Can someone explain where the whole nonsense of all those having the vaccine dying within 2 years comes from? I have a friend, who is absolutely lovely and actually very bright, but lately has been buying into certain conspiracies and told me the "plan" is for Bill Gates to depopulate the world. She sent me various links but didn't bother reading them. I understand Bill Gates has spoken about the link between overpopulation and carbon emissions years ago, but what do the conspirisors actually believe the point of depopulation is? Incidentally, who would even want to live in a world run by these maniacs in two years time if that was indeed their plan? The mind just boggles with it all.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 18/07/2021 20:07

@HalzTangz is it the new Hug a Hoodie? Snog an anti vaxxer Grin

It's been so long since I've had a snog that I'd seriously consider this!

A lot of the misinformation (and that specific quote about being killed off in two years to lead to mass depopulation) can be traced back to Mike Yeadon.

It's absolutely mind boggling as he's an ex researcher with a decent publication history who used to work for pfizer, so presumably at some point in time was a credible scientist. No one knows what has prompted his bizarre behaviour during the pandemic but his ex colleagues have said they "don't recognise him anymore".

The other cheerleader of COVID misinformation is the vet Bryant Bridle, who makes a lot a of similar claims to Yeadon

no no no

firstly you're thinking about antibodies, not mRNA or spike proteins, which are quickly degraded in a vaccinated person. And secondly, antibodies can't be transferred via saliva, you would need to be either giving your DP a blood transfusion or breastfeeding them Envy < - not envy

And in that case you're exposing them to all other antibodies you may have circulating, so I'm not sure why the fixation on COVID antibodies specifically.

Anon778833 · 18/07/2021 21:50

I have felt very hurt and upset about the whole thing. Imagine seeing someone visibly wipe you off them?

I felt that getting vaccinated was important 1. Because I suffer with MH and Covid can trigger a dip in mental health and 2. Because I had GD. And I would not want to risk getting a bad case of covid which could trigger type 2 diabetes- it’s the most awful condition.

Much of it is deliberately started and spread as part of state-sponsored terrorism. It is curious that the more illogical and batshit it is, the more it seems to be believed.

People will be writing PhD papers for years on how easy it is to destabilise whole governments (and to also incidentally target specific ethnic groupings) by promulgating vaccine and health misinformation on various social media platforms by appealing to people's fears, gullibility and need to feel special and 'in the know'.

leafyygreens · 18/07/2021 22:50

@Itsnotover

He says he doesn’t want to hurt my feelings but he can’t help being ‘terrified’ of the spike proteins
if he's terrified of "spike proteins" then he should get vaccinated seeing as coronavirus infections are set to hit 100,000 a day

vaccinated people a) quickly degrade the spike protein after it's produced and b) do not excrete it in any kind of bodily fluids

He needs to see a doctor for his mental health.
