Who is walking the dog?

I'm isolating as 2 in the house are positive. I'm double jabbed, daily testing negative and feel fine.

I'm worried about the dog not being walked. A friend has offered to walk him at the weekend.

We live in a rural village and back onto fields. I'm seriously thinking about taking him out at 5am when no one is around.

What have others done? (He's a small terrier type.)

If you'll genuinely see no one, take him out. If you've any doubt at all, ask your friend.

If I have to self isolate through contact (rather than positive test) I'll be driving to woodland near us and walking my dog where I never see anyone. Take a mask in case you do pass by but really what's the danger if you're testing negative, wearing a mask, outdoors and unlikely to see or pass anyone!

We did combination of paid dog Walker & friends walking her.

And lots of training and games in the garden.

My dog didn't get walked for 10 days when we had a positive case in the household. But I knew he would be ok as he has had restrictive exercise periods for much longer than that. I just did scent work and trick training around the house and garden.

If your friend has offered I would say yes to them.

My husband walked our dog when I had covid. We didn’t have anyone to help and figured it’d be safer him walking the dog for 30 minutes per day, avoiding contact with anyone and anything than passing the dog over to someone else anyway.

I’d take your friend up on their offer. But if that fell through then I think if you genuinely did see no one, and you were testing daily, it would be ok to take the dog out if you needed.

We haven't faced this dilema yet but with a one year old high energy dog our plan, should we have to isolate, is to do very early morning/late evening walks in the woodland next to our house.

We have a dog walker but she won't walk dogs for isolating people which is fair enough and our closest family is my parents who are just too old to walk such an energetic dog.

I would do it early when no-one is around. We were very lucky and a local friend took ours out every day with her own dog, contact free handover in the porch. We were very grateful.

We have a border collie and there’s no way he could go 10 days without his walks. He gets 3 each day. He wakes us up at 5am every day, so would take him to the dog park then.There are 2 entrances so if anyone else came in, I would go out straight away.

A dog Walker would be ideal, but he's not been with one before and they want to do a meet and greet before hand, which is obviously impossible right now 😁. The friend has only offered for one day this weekend, which is lovely of her and he'll enjoy it.

I've just tried playing ball with him but he's really not into it. He gets bored after 3 throws and just looks at me. Hey ho. Will ask another friend if her teen daughter could do it, otherwise it'll be a 5 am. There honestly isn't another soul about (except passing cars) - I like going out to watch the sunrise.

I would walk your dog at a time when no-one else is around.

We were in a similar situation when we were self isolating for 5 days pending my DS getting his test results. A friend offered to walk the dog when she walked her own. As we often walk our dogs together, I assumed this would be fine. But unfortunately my dog refused to go, digging her heels in, then once my friend had got her across the road the dog started screaming, at which point we gave up.

DS's negative test result came through the following day, so I could finally take the dog for a walk and she could do 5 days worth of shit.

If it happens again, I'll either be doing early walks when no-one else is around, or if I'm unwell myself, the dog will have to learn to make use of the garden.

The one consolation is with all the talk of dognapping going on lately, is knowing that my dog wouldn't be taken easily.

Just walk the dog! You are not ill you have no symptoms and have tested negative and have said you will see no one so surely common sense tells you this risk is zero. I would still be taking my baby and my dog out for fresh air and exercise if ever I were to isolate and the amount of obviously “isolating” children I have seen out and about the last few days I think everyone is doing the same

I would walk your dog! I sent my dog to my parents when I had to self isolate (not positive) as I'm single and in a flat, and it was the most miserable 10 days of my life. If I had to self isolate again, I would keep him with me and walk him.

DS is positive (day 3 today) and I haven’t taken the dog as it’s so warm we are just playing some ball in garden and sitting in the shade / in his paddling pool. His dog walker said she would take him next week, she’s seeing a pregnant friend this weekend so didn’t want him last couple of days. She can get him from the garden

Use friends. I’ve walked dogs for several friends who have been isolating, and I know they’d do the same for me.

Probably too hot to walk dogs for the next 2 or 3 days anyway, so problem solved.

Come on guys, time to exercise some common sense here. From Monday people will be allowed back into nightclubs. Pissed, sweaty possibly covid positive people getting off with each other. That to me is risky.

How is what the op suggesting a risk? Providing she doesn't touch anything or have close contact with anyone what is actually going to happen even if she was positive? She's outdoors and in a rural, empty area!

My neighbour's kids have covid so they're isolating, my friend and I are having a lovely time walking their husky - thankfully she came to stay just before their positive test, and she loves dogs, timing was great!

Lovely @Okki. If you went out I hope you enjoyed the walk 🙂. I’m super cautious about the rules but I can’t see the harm in this. When my niece had covid my sister was invited to a trial where she did a LFT every day and, if negative, was allowed out. She didn’t go crazy but she did walk the dog so I don’t see how you could possibly be doing any harm if that’s what you also choose to do. Enjoy 😊
