How many people are comfortable travelling around the UK

We've booked 5 days away to York, we're in Scotland. The cases seem to be rising everywhere but looking at the covid postcode checker on the BBC York seems to be doing better compared to my local area. But im still having a wobble at going. I think its because we'll be on holiday so in and out of various different places rather than being up here but not going to perhaps 2 different restaurants /bars a day plus extra in-between lunch and dinner.

Plus the weather goes from amazing to rain the day we arrive and stays rubbish for the duration so we'll be spending money to be in the rain when we can do that at home for free!

Its our 1st trip anywhere since 2019 so I was really looking forward to it. Im just pretty nervous.

We are not bothering as avoiding indoor places where possible due to cases and dislike self catering as don’t feel it’s a holiday if we still have to cook etc. Am hoping summer 2022 is better but not pining my hopes on it.

Very comfortable. We are going on a city break next week and to the seaside in the holidays, on the train both times. I'm also going to the south west on the train in a couple of weeks to visit a friend (I live in the midlands).

Happy to do UK breaks, we've had several in Scotland (we are in England) and have several more planned. If it rains we put our hoods up and carry on regardless. We tend to do mainly outdoor things and eat outside where possible.

We were away in Norfolk last week and really enjoyed the change in scenery. I took away an extra bag of medical stuff and medication to last 3/4 weeks just in case we had to isolate somewhere. It’s good to be outside and to see so many people carrying on as normal as can be. We have a dog and found we couldn’t book any pubs to sit outside, which was a pain and only got to go to the one we really wanted to on the last day, we were there for 11.30 am. Also had to book in advance gardens, NT places etc, which again is a pain as you are relying on the weather forecast. We all had a lovely time.

Very comfortable have done the nc500 in may this year travelling around scotland had a fabulous time. Also went to Salcombe and Dartmoor in June. Once the summer holidays are over we plan to go away again.
Just enjoy yourself sensibly

We're booked up to go away in our van every weekend until September with a week in Wales in between. The last one is a music festival

Book meals out or trips in advance but otherwise crack on. Nothing to be nervous about. Its fine.

I'm looking forward to going away. It's at least 1.5 hours to get to the sea from where we live so we dont really do day trips there so will be nice to go to the coast. We will probably eat out a few times but other than that wont be mixing indoors a lot more than we do at home. Were both working in London and using public transport.

We were away a couple of weeks ago and have another long weekend booked at the beginning of August.
I've been working with the public for most of this thing- I need a holiday, I wouldn't fly though.

Yes, we’ve both been out and about for work a little more, including overnight stays. We’ve been to the West Country for ten days and regularly go to our holiday places on the Isle of Wight. Lakes booked for September.

I don’t think it’s where you go as much as what you do. We’d avoid crowded events and indoor eating in busy restaurants. We don’t use public transport.

We have booked a few nights an AiBnB about 15 min walk from the sea on the South coast

I haven't seen the sea in 3 years so walks there and in a different county are enough to keep me looking forward to it . We won't be going inside anywhere except the odd shop and only if not busy . Just me and DH

Then the week after a few nights in a forest lodge with DS .We have booked outdoor activities like cycle hired, axe throwing , air rifles, zip wire, laser tag etc teenage DS chose them Hmm. It has inbuilt entertainment and a jacuzzi. So we won't be going out to indoor placedsmuch at all there either

I chose places in January so had in mind to chose something that worked without lots of indoor sightseeing. We will be doing more
cooking than I'd like but we'll get a few takeaways etc. So I'm pretty hopeful it will be good. It isn't ideal but I work from home and really need a chnge of location for a while

People being angry about masks or 2m is what makes me feel unsafe.
I'm pretty sure that anger is everywhere, so doesn't matter where I go.

Away last week with work and could only book the most expensive hotel in the place! A suite with a sea view (almost).
Everywhere was booked up.
Restaurants also busy.

I found that as soon as I started doing “normal” things, a lot of my anxieties around Covid disappeared. Turn off the tracking on the app would be my only advice! And enjoy yourself

Its great to hear people being so positive about going away. We really need this break and it's also to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary so really don't want to cancel. We've booked places for dinner every day and also a roof top bar and beer garden but not sure if we'll manage them if the weather is as bad as ita forecast!

I’m not nervous at all about the virus but am bored of all the stupid rules and masks and queues and prebooking.Didn’t much enjoy our couple of days away in Scotland last week, so I’m going to wait until the madness stops before wasting more money.

England might be less mental though.

We’re in York at the moment - both in our 60’s, both double jabbed. We’re staying in a hotel, eating out every lunchtime and evening, visiting museums and doing some shopping. Nothing different to what we would have done pre COVID.
I suppose you could argue that going out and about so much more (restaurants, museums etc) increases the risk but the alternative is staying home, doing nothing and still potentially picking it up from the local supermarket (or wherever).
We also went away (UK) in May and last October, so not our first jaunt since COVID. We’ve taken what precautions we can - using first class on trains to avoid overcrowding (and yes, I do realise not everyone can do this), carrying my own sanitiser and using it frequently etc etc.
Ultimately though, you do your own risk assessment and make your decision.

We are comfortable going away - have done two trips since may with another booked for August but tend to go away to do outdoor activities in self catering accommodation so the risk is fairly low.

We went to Norfolk for May half term & loved being somewhere different, BUT the weather was great so we were outside every day. If it had rained everyday & cases were as high as they are now (and presumably continue riding from Monday) I'm not sure it would have been as much fun.

If it was us, we'd go but with the view of coming home early if it was awful.

We went to Devon and Cornwall at half term and have just got back from the Peaks. We're off to Scotland on Monday and then to the Lakes; I’ve also got another weekend in the Peaks and a weekend in the Brecons booked in - making the most of the summer holidays!

We did the same a couple of weeks ago, from Scotland too! I love York, and I think it's a good choice, as there is enough to do outside if you don't fancy being indoors. I enjoyed those open top bus tours, which is very tourist cliche and ££££, but really interesting, and a good way to get your bearings and point out some slightly more out of the way sights... and then you can use them if you can't be arsed to walk any more... Plus, lots of fresh air.

It was reeeeeaaaallly busy though. We had prebooked a couple of museums a few weeks beforehand, which was lucky as some we tried "on spec" had no availability. Restaurants too. And I couldn't get space at Betty's even trying to book a month in advance Sad That may all get a bit better from next week, though. It was a bit of a pain, but at least most touristy places were open, which we didn't find was the case last summer when we tried another northern city.

Of course, obligatory word of caution... I did come down with covid the day after returning Blush Not sure if I picked it up there, on the journey down (train) or before we left, but I would have been walking around happy as larry a couple of days beforehand, with all the negative LFTs I could shake a stick at Blush So obviously it's not totally safe because you could come into contact with people like me...
