We have 2 weeks booked and 4 days now of SI for 1 dc.
They refuse to let us keep the one week saying it will cost thousands.

Just go four days late and suck up the loss. You've paid for the holiday anyway so the money is gone either way.

They're charging you more to rebook for a week because a fortnights' holiday is generally always cheaper than 2x1 week holidays because they're cutting down on admin and cleaning costs. It's easier and cheaper to have one group stay a fortnight than it is to have two families stay for a week each.

Just go on your holiday!

rookiemere · 16/07/2021 07:24

It's a school SI. I've been following the rules mostly but in that instance I'd so a lateral flow on Day 7 and if it's negative I'd go and stay at the cottage and don't see anyone for a couple of days. At least you'll still be in a new location.

I lost the cost of an entire ski holiday right at the start - it was obvious resorts and borders were going to close, but hadn't yet. Didn't go and the resort closed the day after we were meant to be there. It's annoying but not the end of the world.

Wakeupin2022 · 16/07/2021 07:25

Surely you know when booking that it was a gamble?

You are only missing 4 days so I wouldn't say that's too much.

It will always tend to cost more for a week than 2 weeks.

I would just go when I can!

HSHorror · 16/07/2021 07:52

I agree that is usually true but not at this site the price of 7d is identical to 14.
And no the holiday has been booked 13m so no idea at booking that there would be an issue.
We are lucky this is our first isolation too. And only cases 4-10 or so at school. And obviously caseswere much much lower last summer.
Each week 800 according to their website.
But now due to demand and lateness they are saying it would be rebooking ourweek that is already booked for 1300.
And i know for a fact they could do this as due to ecv in party the holiday was moved 12m already.
We cant nor turn up on the day as presumably they would resell the second week when no check in.

Sorry for everyone else affected by this. Trruly rubbish.

Just tell them you're checking in 4 days late and pay for the full two weeks. It's not their fault you have to self isolate. If 2 weeks is the same price as 1 then you have won by having a 10 day holiday. Look on the bright side and don't cut your nose off to spite your face.

Wakeupin2022 · 16/07/2021 08:12

So am I right in thinking you can cancel and get your full money back? Or is moving the only option available?

Do you want them to refund you half the money for the 1st week?

I'm sorry, but it's just not going to happen and I don't think any business would agree to the terms you want.

You have paid last year's prices. Even in normal times, prices increase.

I know its dissapointing. But I do think you are being a wee bit unfair on the company.

rookiemere · 16/07/2021 08:17

Just contact the company then and ask if you can collect the keys on Day 4 - it's disappointing but you can still have most of your holiday

HSHorror · 16/07/2021 08:52

No i want them to treat them as 2 separate weeks.
Week1 700-800
Week 2 700-800
Cancel week 1 as cant go. .(under their own terms of you wont be worse off etc).
Then leave week 2 as it is
They want us to
A keep both losing 4/7 days £450
Or
B sell us our own week 2 back for well the whole price of 1400. (They make extra £1300 for selling week 1)
C cancel (and they make a profit of £1k)

OP posts:
rookiemere · 16/07/2021 08:58

But if you cancel the whole booking you get all your money back. You booked as a two week block, so that's how your booking is being treated.
Seriously either cancel or go late, the company have offered you a fair response IMHO.

Hersetta427 · 16/07/2021 09:00

I think you unreasonable expecting to get a refund on the portion of the holiday you can't go on. Either go for 10 days and suck up the loss of the 4 days money or finish your SI at the cottage. Take regular Lateral flow tests and play games and sit in the garden.

You are making this into a bigger issue than it needs to be.

rookiemere · 16/07/2021 09:08

Also there's no guarantee the company will rebook those weeks or one separate week. I'm pretty sure they will but basically by giving you a full refund they're taking on that risk.

Foobydoo · 16/07/2021 09:17

I would just go and the Adults tag team for the first four days to isolate the child.
And I would still take the isolating child out to the beach and other outside activities just not to indoor crowded places. Long walks and picnics would be very low risk.

championthewonderhorse70 · 16/07/2021 13:43

I Would just go when you were due to.
If your child hasn't got C19 and you'll be SI until you go if he's still not showing signs then just go

But it's not two separate weeks. You booked a two week holiday - you either need to pay for the whole two weeks (and turn up late having let them know) or cancel the entire holiday and get your money back.

They won't care if the property is sitting empty for four days as long as they're getting their money.

mygood · 16/07/2021 14:44

you are being completely unreasonable & going to just ruin a perfectly good holiday. You are going to get a 10 holiday. Count yourself lucky and go and enjoy it fgs.

FairyAtTheBottomOfTheGarden · 16/07/2021 14:48

The people who can go travel down in the car.

The rest follow 4 days later by train so car will have short drive to pick them up from the station?

But you didn’t book as two separate weeks. Honestly I know loads of people who are in, or who have been in similar situations over the past year, including us. We just missed the first part of our holiday. Others have done the same. Some others I know have cancelled for a full refund. Some have lost the whole holiday. We’re all losing out on stuff due to this shit show, I don’t think losing 4 days of your holiday is a massive deal to be honest.
