HSHorror · 15/07/2021 15:35

We have 2 weeks booked and 4 days now of SI for 1 dc.
They refuse to let us keep the one week saying it will cost thousands.

dementedpixie · 15/07/2021 15:37

Who is refusing?
Where are you isolating?
Don't know what the issue is; need more info

SpinningWheelOfFortune · 15/07/2021 15:39

So does the 4 days of isolation go into the start of your holiday? Who have you booked with, where are you going?

HSHorror · 15/07/2021 15:40

We are still home before going.
Talking to holiday company uk to change holiday as we cant go on the start day

OP posts:
HSHorror · 15/07/2021 15:41

Yes goes only into mid 1st week.
Theircovid cover say we can move or money back but obviously no free dates now. Plus they want to charge say 800 extra.
Devon

Still unclear. But if the jist is that you only now want to pay for second week of holiday as you can't get there for the first week surely you claim on insurance rather than expect holiday co to foot the bill Confused

dementedpixie · 15/07/2021 15:44

Can you not just go late? Of course they won't refund the 1st week as its not their fault you can't go

ditalini · 15/07/2021 15:47

Can you not just go late? Ok, you miss 4 days but you're going for 2 weeks so still get the bulk of your holiday.

SecretKeeper1 · 15/07/2021 15:49

When is the start day and when does isolation end? Is the isolation mandatory (ie test and trace) or from school? Can your child isolate at the holiday home? How long is it since close contact? How close was the close contact?

Based on what you’ve said I’d just suck up the extra days’ costs and arrive late. But much more info needed!!

HSHorror · 15/07/2021 15:57

It is school so mandatory. No idea how close as i dont know who.
Its 1600 so losing 4 nights is £450
They say they cover covid and you can move holiday but dont say they will charge extra.
They can easily resell holiday and i think the crunch is they could resell the whole thing for more so in fact want to do that.
I think it is reasonable. I am cancelling the affected week but they want to charge me extra to sell it back to me!

OP posts:
titchy · 15/07/2021 15:59

When's the start day? Aren't school bubble isolations finishing on Monday?

ditalini · 15/07/2021 16:06

How many in your party? Could some go earlier so that they get the full 14 days?

Given that they're not going to do what you want and refund the first week (whatever the rights and wrongs of that), I don't think it's worth thinking about it as £450 lost - that money's already spent on the holiday. You can still get the holiday, albeit shorter.

Honestly? As long as you're using private transport, I'd just bloody go and dc can do the last bit of isolation down there given you've got 10 days in the property afterwards where noone would be isolating.

HSHorror · 15/07/2021 16:21

Problem is that they would refund the whole holiday

OP posts:
HSHorror · 15/07/2021 16:23

Could do some going down but only 1 car so 5h round trip

OP posts:
TokyoSushi · 15/07/2021 16:25

Is it a cottage in Devon? A few options:

  • Don't say anything to the company, just go 4 days late, I assume it's one of those key in a box by the front door type of things?
  • Send the rest of your party to the cottage and you isolate and then join with DS
  • Go to the cottage and DS isolates there
  • Use your judgement about whether DS actually was a close contact, if not LFT him every day and go and enjoy your holiday

I wouldn't bother messing about with the travel company, they'll be loking from a money rather than a customer welfare angle

Hellcatspangle · 15/07/2021 16:25

I would just go as soon as you can, you'll still get ten days

Overthebow · 15/07/2021 16:28

Just go 4 days late and enjoy the rest of your holiday?

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 15/07/2021 16:28

Just go 4 days late. Not that big of a deal I’d have though.

LIZS · 15/07/2021 16:31

Pay for two weeks but arrive 4days late?

Ifitquacks · 15/07/2021 16:34

Surely the sensible thing to do here is just to go 4 days late? You don’t lose any money, you get a holiday (albeit shorter)...
We had to miss day 1 of our 3 day holiday due to SI. Don’t think the holiday company have done anything wrong here.

ditalini · 15/07/2021 16:39

Ok, but if you get a full refund for the holiday what are you going to do? That money's not likely to buy you 2 weeks anywhere at the moment.

£450 certainly wouldn't buy you 4 days anywhere.

If you go down in 2 groups, could dc and parent get a train to somewhere closer so that the 5 hour journey was shortened?

HSHorror · 15/07/2021 22:57

Im mainly annoyed they are trying to rip us off with a computer says its a new booking.
They want 1300 or so for just 7d so almost the cost of the 2w.
They 100% could do this as goodwill or under the terms of their covid cover.
Anyway as an aside people with 1 week will just end up going anyway as there is no possibility to move even if you wanted to pay extra. (Except to sell my current week2 back to me for £500 extra.

Also it's kind of sad someone else cant enjoy a week there.
I could understand if as in some places 2w were cheaper as no cleaning etc especially with covid. But it's not that as you can see the prices for other years are identical for our 2 weeks by 7d. So they just arent used to people checking stuff

OP posts:
HSHorror · 15/07/2021 22:58

Thats why i think it's a con saying you are covered there is no cover unless you are going out of season or prepared to move it to next year.

Sadly, loads of us have lost money on this sort of stuff during the pandemic. We haven’t seen our family abroad for nearly 2 years now. Booked flights with the opportunity to move them for free. Except it has cost us £400 to move them every time the government have moved the goalposts re international travel (you cannot transfer the luggage allowance that you’ve paid for, for example). Yes they could use their goodwill... but how many holidays do you think are having to be cancelled/changed at the moment due to isolations? Potentially millions. Holiday companies have been unable to trade properly for 18 months, of course they will be looking to recoup losses somehow.

@Lalalablahblahblah

I don't understand. Why don't you just go down 4 days late without telling them? We've got 2 weeks booked in a cottage in Cornwall soon and it's starting on a Friday. We can't go down till the Sunday but we haven't bothered to tell the rental company. It makes no difference to them as long as they get paid...
I think the OP is saying she wants move it so she can take the full 2 weeks, she doesn’t want to ‘miss’ 4 days of the holiday.
