Anyone got any insider knowledge on what countries are moving from green to amber tomorrow? Specifically anything about Madeira!
Thanks!

And what I will be flamed for: I would love to see all airlines applying the policy of only letting ppl with a negative test on board. It's not a magic bullet, but does add a level of safety. Flying from uk means you get on a plane with god knows how many infections ppl. Flying into the uk means that you are flying with a lot of ppl who have tested a day before or on the airport negative.

@Bordois

Not so much of a risk that you didn't want the inconvenience of moving seats? And yes, sometimes people do have to eat at certain times.
Exactly! If it's that much of a risk, shift your own arse!
Bordois · 15/07/2021 08:41

Would you feel the same if it was someone starting to smoke next to you and your kid?

If they were smoking in a place that allows smoking then it would be up to me to move away if I didn't like it.

TheSunIsStillShining · 15/07/2021 08:45

@Bordois
yes, there are exceptions, I know. I am one of those who actually has to eat at certain times. And I can shuffle my schedule to not eat on a short haul flight. If it was one person on a whole plane fine, but it's like the cinema: ppl feel they have to eat. Like in the 80s ppl felt compelled to get wasted on the free drinks on flights.

Again, it's about short flights and not long haul. I cannot believe that grown ups without medical conditions cannot wait an hour or two to eat, or can't eat at the airport.

I really don't understand ... smoke and viruses are quite similar in this respect. One is frowned upon and gets you in jail, although being exposed to cigarette smoke for 10-20 mins will not pose a huge risk to even a cv person. But being exposed to a new virus that we don't know enough about still can have the potential to pose a huge risk.
And yet I am being an idiot to expect others to be respectful.
I do my part. As a smoker, never smoke under someone's balcony/window. Don't smoke on public transport, or in a playground. Or within school premises. Even on the street I try to walk away from others and rarely does anyone has to inhale my smoke. All I'm asking is the same level of social responsibility from everyone else that I am following. Nothing more.
Having a mask on for 1-2 hours will not kill anyone or leave them hospitalized. But for me and many others this virus (and others) do mean that we end up in hospital because others are selfish.

IsabellesMissingSock · 15/07/2021 08:48

So take it up with the airline and ask them to ban food then.

Bordois · 15/07/2021 09:00

I cannot believe that grown ups without medical conditions cannot wait an hour or two to eat, or can't eat at the airport.

Let me guess, he conveniently shared his lack of medical condition with you so you know that he wasn't eating for that reason.

Either way, we all have to deal with things that we, personally, don't like every day of the week, but you really can't expect everyone else to accommodate you - especially when there is a solution that you could have taken but chose not to.

What am I reading here ?? The world has gone nuts....people are selfish to eat now....you need to stay home if your getting hysterical over someone eating a sandwich near you....dear God what have we become Shock

Well quite. And presumably the sinner in question had had a recent negative covid test, otherwise he wouldn't have been on the plane in the first place. Notwithstanding that he's still clearly spreading his covid left right and centre, for daring to eat food which he's legitimately permitted to eat (and which might even have been provided by the airline for that exact purpose) 🤣
Wilkolampshade · 15/07/2021 09:15

@TheSunIsStillShining but it doesn't matter whether he's fit as a flea or on his deathbed. Doesn't matter if he's just eaten his own weight in lard before boarding or not eaten for a week. If he's served a meal and wants to eat it, in his seat, that he booked, he bloody well can.
If you don't want to be near it, move.
I'm a pretty non confrontational person but I think in this scenario I might have told you to f' off.

Overthebow · 15/07/2021 10:17

@TheSunIsStillShining

It was a short flight. Maybe not eat? And why is it unreasonable to ask one person to move instead of 2 others to move? I don't get the problem.

as long as it gets recorded where you sit, you are allowed to move seats mid-flight.

So you think it's perfectly okay to put someone at higher risk because they need to eat in that particular 1.5 hours of the day and not before/after. This is exactly the point I am making. A smoker is expected not to smoke for x hours on a flight. Virus droplets (not just covid) stay in the air just like smoke. And yet it is okay to exhale loads of virus particles next to a vulnerable person and that person is being unreasonable for asking them to move away. Would you feel the same if it was someone starting to smoke next to you and your kid?

you can’t expect people not to eat on a plane if it’s allowed. It’s up to you to manage your own risk. If you don’t want that happening around you then don’t fly, you have a choice.
Delatron · 15/07/2021 10:25

You need to change your thinking @TheSunIsStillShining people are going to eat and drink on planes. They will remove their masks to do this.

The man sounds very good natured and understanding to move for you. He didn’t actually have to and wasn’t supposed to be moving about the plane.

Delatron · 15/07/2021 10:25

Smoking is not the same as eating and drinking!

Blessex · 15/07/2021 12:55

@TheSunIsStillShining it sounds like you shouldn’t be flying on planes in the middle of a pandemic if you are that worried, are CV and are unvaccinated. You are being totally unreasonable.
