Anyone got any insider knowledge on what countries are moving from green to amber tomorrow? Specifically anything about Madeira!
Thanks!

Not to mention they could no way house that many people from say Ibiza in mid-August.

Delatron · 14/07/2021 20:51

Yeah it freaked me out when I read it and I was thinking of cancelling our holiday to Greece. I just can’t cope if it turns red while we are away. It really can’t happen. I think it’s so unlikely.

frillseeking · 14/07/2021 20:53

We've got spain booked for end August start of September and I'm worried that they'll let people go during school holidays then restrict it again. The headlines today freaked me out and then I start to wonder if they're designed to do that

School holidays? You’ll be fine.

First week of Sept? I’d be concerned.

It’s only a problem if you are going for two weeks. If it happens in your second week (assuming Sat to Sat) then you’ll be back in time. If it happens week 1…

100%.

It’ll screw over the 25-35s who don’t need to, and can’t afford to travel in school holidays. And more importantly, who don’t vote Tory.

Delatron · 14/07/2021 21:12

Yeah we’ve got 10 days mid August. I just can’t deal with the stress! I’ll see how things pan out over the next few weeks. Amber is fine. I assumed there was no chance of any of these destinations turning red.

Kate3150 · 14/07/2021 21:15

I’ve got a holiday booked to Spain for September 😳😳, we still have time to make a decision but not sure what to do. Don’t feel like I’ve time to look forward to it, just all stress, worry and weighing up options! X

MrsSkylerWhite · 14/07/2021 21:16

Also very sad for people flying to see family. We haven’t seen ours in UK since December 2019 for various Covid reasons, so feel your pain.
I’m am surprised that anyone going purely for a holiday has been caught unawares, though. I am also sad that your holiday plans are mucked up but it was to be expected and will be for at least another year, surely?

Kate3150 · 14/07/2021 21:18

@MrsSkylerWhite- gosh, that must be so hard. Love & hugs to you xx
Yes, I agree lots of us have taken a chance with booking a holiday. I suppose we just want something to look forward to, although for me it’s having the opposite effect 🤣

Wellbythebloodyhell · 14/07/2021 21:24

I think there's more chance of Spain/Greece turning us in the UK to their version of "red" or whatever their strongest quarantine entry rules are, than the UK treating returns from them countries as red quarantine requirements

Delatron · 14/07/2021 21:26

Well yes obviously much harder if you’re trying to get away to see family.
I hope it works out.

Holidays are always a risk at the moment and you expect it will be a bit stressful and things may change at the last minute.

Strange how I managed to get away last year without too many issues!

You’ll also notice mps/ rich people etc will get away with no problem/Lots of loop holes. Or just throw money at the issue.

Those that need the holidays the most will be the least likely to get them. One rule for them and another for the rest of us. Yet still it goes on...

Wasn’t the threshold like 20/100,000.

They were the days.

Oh, thank you Katie. It’s my elderly parents. They’re double jabbed, both so very healthy for their ages because they work at it (mum 82, stepdad 76) but they’re just so frightened that they won’t see anyone, even me if I test before I go. It’s breaking my heart.

Really, really hope that you manage a break, somewhere! Just to switch off from all of this, lie in the sun, swim in warm seas and eat something delicious that you haven’t cooked for a few days would be bliss, wouldn’t it?

Angrymum22 · 14/07/2021 21:41

We were down in “posh” Cornwall this weekend, it was heaving. You couldn’t book a restaurant for love nor money. I don’t think the rich are going abroad they’ve decamped down to North Cornwall for the summer.

Kate3150 · 15/07/2021 06:35

Anyone have holidays booked for Sept/Oct and not sur what to do?

TheSunIsStillShining · 15/07/2021 07:19

The problem with ppl going on holiday in the middle of a pandemic is not just that. It's the fact that airlines pack the planes full, airports don't operate with plus staff to spread out the queues and people -in general- not giving a shit about others (no mask, breathing down the other's neck,....)

We needed to fly 2 weeks ago with my teen son, and this weekend to get him vaccinated and for me to work in another country for a week. So not a holiday, but we at least got to see my parents after almost 2.5 years.
But my worry level is quite high for this weekend's flight, because of the above.

Last time a guy took off his mask and started eating. I asked him to move a few rows up/down. His first reaction was: I am fully vaccinated.
Well, I wasn't and neither was my son. He was perfectly okay to move and came back after, didn't make a fuss and the plane was half full only. But it shows ppl's mentality: it's about me. And as a CV person that makes me feel less safe and less in control of any situation I have to be in.

If I knew/could see that both individuals and companies are doing their utmost to protect everyone else as well as themselves I'd be more of a happy camper. The risk would still be there and I would not opt to go on holiday, but if I had to travel I'd feel much better. And in general we would be out of the woods sooner imo. This reckless opening up will only make things worse in the long run.

Delatron · 15/07/2021 07:21

How are people supposed to eat with masks on? I would expect that and wouldn’t have asked him to move. I don’t think the man was being selfish and you should have moved if you felt uncomfortable.

IsabellesMissingSock · 15/07/2021 07:27

I don't think you are meant to move seats on planes at the mo for contact tracing purposes. How was he meant to eat with a mask on?

Blessex · 15/07/2021 07:28

@Delatron gosh I agree.

TheSunIsStillShining · 15/07/2021 07:44

It was a short flight. Maybe not eat? And why is it unreasonable to ask one person to move instead of 2 others to move?
I don't get the problem.

as long as it gets recorded where you sit, you are allowed to move seats mid-flight.

So you think it's perfectly okay to put someone at higher risk because they need to eat in that particular 1.5 hours of the day and not before/after. This is exactly the point I am making. A smoker is expected not to smoke for x hours on a flight. Virus droplets (not just covid) stay in the air just like smoke. And yet it is okay to exhale loads of virus particles next to a vulnerable person and that person is being unreasonable for asking them to move away. Would you feel the same if it was someone starting to smoke next to you and your kid?

IsabellesMissingSock · 15/07/2021 08:31

Hmmm I have definitely been told on flights that moving seats is not Ok cos it can screw up contact tracing. Seems obvious to me.

Unless food is banned on planes, you can't reasonably expect people to not eat it Hmm

IsabellesMissingSock · 15/07/2021 08:33

I was on a flight last week and they were actually giving out food. And yes, I ate it Hmm

TheSunIsStillShining · 15/07/2021 08:33

I'd expect common decency and responsible behaviour. Obviously I expect too much.

IsabellesMissingSock · 15/07/2021 08:35

@TheSunIsStillShining

So it's not common decency to eat food provided to you? Okaaaaay Grin
Bordois · 15/07/2021 08:37

Not so much of a risk that you didn't want the inconvenience of moving seats? And yes, sometimes people do have to eat at certain times.
