Maybe I'm really silly but the risk of central venous blood clots and thrombocytopenia is just one I don't want to take. These aren't just regular clots, these are very specific and difficult to treat so pretty deadly.

I had the first and I think I've fully talked myself out of putting it in my body again now. I don't think there's any going back and having a second for me to be honest.

However, of course cases are going up which is scary too. Am I alone in this ?

Although the potential side effects of AZ are a hit nerve wracking, the relief of having had two jabs is incredible when your kids bring covid home from school.

We are just finishing a fortnight of one child bringing home covid and the rest getting it one by one. 2 x AZ has meant that DH and I have escaped catching it, even though no social distancing is possible in our family home. Perhaps we’re just lucky.

I guess it boils down to what you’re more scared of - rare side effects of vaccine or covid itself? Which I think is quite a relevant question, now that the government seem hell bent on covid ripping through schools and everyone catching it this summer to get the 3rd peak out of the way.

If you are 2 adults in a house, no kids at school, and both wfh, the balance of risk might be slightly different.

@Anonawoman was this something you spoke to your GP about and agreed?

No doubt the AZ controversy is behind the very poor second dose uptake in the 40-50 age group.

Anyone else still not had second Astra Zeneca ?
Silkiecats · 16/07/2021 20:20

Not sure as 40-50s were given appointments 12 weeks apart so my one was originally later than now.

MRex · 16/07/2021 20:24

Lots in their 40s would only be just at 8 weeks, there's obviously a few who.might be nervous but it's perhaps a bit premature to decide that means they aren't getting a second jab.

PeonyTime · 17/07/2021 08:04

I'm in the single doses, 40-50 bracket.
I brought forward my appointment from 12 weeks to 8. But now I'm stuck in isolation, so missed my appointment, and dont know how/when I'll be able to get it - and if I catch covid, it's another month before I can be fully vaccinated.
Lots of those 40-50 will intending to get vaccinated, but arent there just yet.

My DP is adamant he won't get his AZ second jab. He's determined to get Pfizer or Moderna instead, and is going to book his second jab and only take it if they give one of those. I said he's unlikely to get it as he had AZ as his first jab, but he's very stubborn and said he'll just go elsewhere if he gets refused, and try again. Will be interested to see how he gets on! He has had Covid prior to getting his first jab.

Granita1 · 17/07/2021 08:20

Early 40s and had my second AZ this week. The nurse giving it to me told me there had been no blood clots associated with the second jab so far. And they have given millions. (I also had no side effects this time, unlike the first when I had the usual flu like symptoms for 24 hrs)

How2Help · 17/07/2021 08:59

The first dose provides the protection against severe disease. The second dose adds very little, just adds to protection against symptomatic disease. One dose plus infection will leave you better protected against variants. If you are uncomfortable then wait. I’m sure U.K. will finally get around to offering mRNA booster soon which is far superior to 2x AZ. Don’t feel bullied into second dose AZ. 2nd dose mRNA is however more important. You could always do antibody test to check you responded to first AZ, lots available on line.

People should absolutely have concerns listened to. People should absolutely make their own choices. People should not spout absolute shite like this. Literally nothing in this is factually correct.

Same chance of getting a blood clot with second AZ as getting murdered within the next month:

Are you worried about getting murdered in the next month? Smile

AllisoninWunderland · 17/07/2021 10:15

I’m early 40s and not yet had my second AZ despite having my first back in March.
I’ve had horrid side effects from the vaccine and just cannot face having it yet. I’m only just now feeling almost back to normal (apart from my menstrual cycle which is not!).

I do want to have a booster at some point but not the AZ.
