How is Covid isolation enforced, if at all?

Have those of you who've been told to self-isolate after a Covid contact been checked on by the authorities? If so what did they do?

It seems as though any checking isn't really happening in an effective way given the extent of people not adhering to self-isolation, but I may be wrong.

My father is isolating as a contact as my kids have tested positive. Day 8 now. He’s has 0 contact from T&T after the initial call. Not a sausage!

MRex · 11/07/2021 08:04

You must have missed threads of people moaning about being called every day.

given the extent of people not adhering to self-isolation
What's your evidence for this?

Frazzled2207 · 11/07/2021 08:06

I think right now due to sheer volume they are probably rightly concentrating on the actual covid positive rather than the close contacts
My son has been a close contact twice and zero contact but it was all done via the school so different to being contacted via t&t

starbrightstarlight8888 · 11/07/2021 08:11

My dsd had the police turn up at our house when she ignored the phone calls.

I’ve heard the opposite. Those who have tested positive tend to adhere to isolation much better than those who may or may not be contacts. So t&t are focussing on contacts and limiting spread.

I'm only going from what people have anecdotally been posting in here.

Currently isolating with covid and they've been phoning DP everyday, multiple times some days because he hasn't answered. (Not answering because she he's been very unwell and sleeping, not because he isn't following the rules).

Warhertisuff · 11/07/2021 08:38

Following on from last post, the number of children who don't seem to be isolating after school bubbles bursting appear to be extremely prevalent.

Are they phoning your landline?.... phoning a mobile would be pretty pointless!

My son's boss when back from holiday was called frequently - he even broke off a cilent conference zoom call to take the checking he was working from home (he was) call. Whereas my son when he chose to isolate (voluntary if you just get the app ping rather than a "real" contact ) for 5 days did not have a single check on him.

yellowspot · 11/07/2021 09:09

@Warhertisuff mobile. Which you're right is pointless as we could be anywhere!

Imnothereforthedrama · 11/07/2021 09:13

Well yes they ring and yes you could be anywhere. I suppose they are relying on people being honest.
What do people expect police to turn up every day or lock you in your house ?

The app just works between phones his name would not have come up on anyone’s system. Advisory because it’s totally unenforceable.

That’s a bit different though as he is ill not a close contact. Presumably you are a close contact- are they also calling you?
QueenZoopla · 11/07/2021 09:20

They ring you?! Surely a waste of time and resources ? 🤨We haven't had a landline for years, and if I was ill my phone would be on silent!

Doublestar · 11/07/2021 09:25

It's such a complete waste of time (that's if they even are ringing people which I am suspicious of - don't know anyone who's had a phone call)

If you are on a mobile you could be anywhere - I haven't had a landline for years - or you could just not answer and say you were too ill to come to the phone.

What are they gonna do? Jack shit, that's what!

Well if they are calling on mobiles, it really is pointless... unless you were stupid e ought to answer whilst in the midst of a large football crowd or something.

When DS had to isolate (end of May) due to his school bubble bursting we didn’t hear anything from test and trace. About half way through his isolation we did have an email from Public Health England (via school) requesting he went for a PCR test which he did and luckily was negative. He carried on isolating but there was no check.

blobby10 · 11/07/2021 09:53

My son is isolating for ten days after returning from military deployment in a red list country. Despite having had Covid, Had both vaccinations and not having been off his base for 3 months. He started isolating on Thursday then got a call Friday to remind him to send his 1st test off. Colleagues of his returning from deployments over the past 6 months have been woken by banging on the door at 5am if they don't answer their phone when it rings during the night - cos they are asleep like most of us are!

Xenia · 11/07/2021 11:39

Blobby that is why it is ludicrous. My son who isolated for 5 years in a very new job missing all sorts that will never be replaced, had had THREE negative tests that week (he does a lot when visiting his girl friend etc) and had one jab and he and I hardly go out much at all so clearly he did not have it. I told him it was just a ping from a chance meeting so ignore it but he stuck to it to the letter so not only ruined the work things but also the weekend plans entirely never mind my own home routines and the extra cost to me of having people home not out - not that the state could care less about those who pay the most tax and get no covid financial help. They bite the hand that feeds and then bite and bite and bite it again.

HelloMissus · 11/07/2021 11:44

DD got an email telling her a close contact had tested positive (the friend has already told her to be fair).
After that nothing.

WhiteChocTwix · 11/07/2021 11:45

We're on day 8 of Amber isolation and they've phoned every day since we started. I ignored them this morning tbh. Their scripted threats which the caller's read with utmost boredom are getting on my nerves now. We know the rules better than they do and we're sticking to them! Gah. I feel like saying, no I don't agree with you sharing my data with a bunch of random 3rd parties just to see what happens when they have to go off script!

Parker231 · 11/07/2021 14:29

@WhiteChocTwix - why so rude to someone trying to do a difficult job and trying to keep other people safe even if you don’t care.

anothernamereally · 11/07/2021 14:36

Only the initial call, no calls after that

JoeMaplin · 11/07/2021 14:38

We had to isolate recently after a positive contact, got texts and phone calls the first day but nothing after that.
