How is Covid isolation enforced, if at all?

Have those of you who've been told to self-isolate after a Covid contact been checked on by the authorities? If so what did they do?

It seems as though any checking isn't really happening in an effective way given the extent of people not adhering to self-isolation, but I may be wrong.

Nobody rang me when I had it in January. Not once.

I'm wondering this. If DS gets sent home from school as a contact, he's never had to do it yet. I have no idea how they could find out if he actually is isolating, as I wouldn't have to isolate myself and DS doesn't have a mobile phone so how could they prove he wasn't at home if they rang me?

notapaidunionrep · 11/07/2021 14:56

DD had multiple missed calls from an unknown mobile number. As a sensible 17 yo she does not answer calls from unknown mobile numbers.

I did though call one back in case it was something dodgy and/or important and the person at the other end did not say they were checking on isolation when asked the reason for their call, just said they didn't know what I was talking about, even though there were multiple calls from that number. Sounded like someone in their 20s a bit dim, which is apparently consistent with many of the people recruited to monitor isolation.

Utterly pointless to call when so many people now hate being bothered by their mobiles and keep them on silent or don't answer due to the endless scam phone calls from HMRC and the PO/RM coming from apparent mobile numbers.

DS has just finished isolating along with the rest of her class. Nobody checked. Some of them definitely didn't isolate, one of those who didn't has now tested positive so the other child who spent the day at her house has to isolate again!

DD is now isolating, along with almost 200 other pupils from her year. I saw two of those who should be isolating at costa this morning.

Dh completed 14 days of isolation when he relocated from China last year. Despite having to fill out numerous forms re where he would be , phone numbers etc nobody called/checked.
Dd completed one period of isolation as school bubble burst, no calls received.

What happens if you go to Costa when you’re supposed to be isolating, and then subsequently test positive? Can T&T get you fined because you went out when you shouldn’t have?

MagpieWife · 11/07/2021 16:05

I isolated at my mum's house when I arrived from an amber country. T&T called my mum's mobile every day (I gave them the landline number but they wouldn't use it!). It was a little frustrating because sometimes she would be out and I would be at home isolating, so they wouldn't even speak to me. But they seemed fine with it.

When my husband arrived, he didn't give a UK mobile number and people showed up in person three times to check he was at home. I was actually pretty impressed with the whole thing.

Pretty sure in theory you can. Doubt it’s ever happened though

I don't check in to venues when I go in, I just wave my phone at the code and pretend. I expect someone isolating would do the same
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 11/07/2021 18:04

I probably would say that @WhiteChocTwix because I genuinely wouldn't be happy!
