Covid 'pox parties'

With the announcement this week of basically "we're all going to get Covid now, so crack on with life", i've heard a few people now locally looking to arrange Covid parties now. This is so they can get Covid 'before freedom day', or specifically before their holiday in August, therefore they don't have to worry about testing positive or catching it while on holiday. Will these be the new 'Pox parties' over the next few weeks?

Wouldn't surprise me. Many people are beyond selfish it would seem.

If they go to one of these parties, if they're healthy and low risk and if they then isolate and steer clear of higher risk people..... is it still selfish? Won't be doing it myself but at this point I sort of don't blame people for wanting to get it over with.

I think it’s an utterly daft idea but then I think deliberately trying to catch chicken pox is too.

For anyone young actually why not do this? It is a mild illness for the young and healthy. It is a highly contagious respiratory illness that we all will, at some point, be exposed to. Vaccine will not eradicate covid anytime in the next few years. That is a fact. We would think it mad to avoid other endemic viral illness. As well as coming to terms with living with covid, I think we also have to come to terms with disease. It's part of being human.

I've just heard from a couple of friends who had both vaccines on the same day as me (second one mid April) They've both had covid. One was just a bit sniffly and under the weather, the other couldn't get out of bed for four days. So just because you have a vaccine doesn't guarantee you won't test positive.

I think that's the idea, get it over with now.

Although I know with some it's a cynical way of catching it/being in close contact with the virus, to get time off work while the isolation period is extended till August.

If they end up in hospital taking resources because they purposely infected themselves. That is beyond bloody selfish. But of course, all they care about is their holiday and they assume they won't get too unwell... doesn't quite work like that.

Aren’t you arguing against all vaccines with that line of thinking?

I’m also pretty sure that we don’t think it’s ‘mad’ to avoid other illnesses. I don’t throw norovirus or cold sore parties either…

it's bizzare, I'm not sure why you'd deliberately try and get COVID rather than just having the vaccine

particularly as it's no guarantee that you won't get it again, and there are no promises that having a previous infection will be taken by other countries as proof of immunity

Is this something to do with certain countries, France for instance, wavering quarantine with 2 vaccines or 1 vaccine plus having had covid? If it is they’d probably be better off trying to move up their second vaccine appointment. Walk in centres are often happy to do Pfizer or Moderna with as little as a 3 week gap. I did this and now I’m double jabbed and ready to travel!

A load of kids at DS school did it with some fuckwit parent thinking a big party for kids would be a great idea....so far 30 have tested positive and counting. The whole school year is now out

There are kids who have been hospitalised. There are teens who have been hospitalised and there are young people who have been hospitalised. Some have died.

A young, fit and healthy 20 year old I know went to hospital last week with breathing problems due to Covid.

Covid parties signs reckless and dangerous. No one knows how they will react to this disease.

People are stupid 🤦‍♀️

My friend was one of those young and healthy ones, just 30.

She died.

Totally stupid and bizarre. A healthy 25 year old I knew died of it and elite athletes have ended up with long covid so it’s really pot luck how you react.
The more people catch it the more chance it has to mutate as well meaning greater risk of a vaccine-resistant strain.
