Will they u-turn on masks?

I really hope so. I’m double vaccinated but still a bit concerned about catching Covid and I’m also not keen on the children getting it. Cases are completely out of hand and one of the hospitals in Scotland has had to cancel elective surgery today because they are full, mainly because of covid. So much for the speech the other day about how opening up is for the health of the nation Confused. England will follow Scotland for sure and end up with hospitals full. Scotland aren’t removing facemasks thankfully and there seems to have been a bit of shock that England is going to such as from Andy Burnham.

AIBU to think that they will u turn on masks by the 19th?

Yes, I seethe Government uturning by monday, there's been too much hystera from the blue hearts over this

Lockheart · 07/07/2021 09:26

It is possible. Israel did (they removed the mask mandate on 15 June and brought it back in less than 2 weeks later).

Whether the UK govt will? Time will tell.

I think the tide is turning.

I was in a newsagent ship this morning and there were 5 other people in there and none of them were wearing masks and nor was the person behind the till.

People have just simply had enough of it all now.

Why are you bothering about what Boris Johnson says?

Only the true word of Queen Nicola is law in Scotland. We shall carry on doing whatever the Great Leader says, for as long as she says we do it.

And given that her raison d'etre is to do the opposite of Westminster, she'll keep us wearing masks in Scotland as long as she possibly can.

So do l but not in the same way. Big u turn coming from Boris etc soon.

The only thing Johnson said was 'irreversible' was pubs reopening Hmm.

So u-turns on anything else is distinctly possible.

Don't burn your masks yet...

herecomesthsun · 07/07/2021 09:53

from Paul Nurse (very respected Nobel winning scientist) quoted in the Telegraph

"We should continue to wear our masks indoors as a mark of respect to colleagues, one of Britain's top scientists has said.

Sir Paul Nurse, Nobel Laureate and director of the Francis Crick Institute, agreed that the right balance to strike was for the Government to open up society on July 19 but for people to wear face coverings in indoor settings and on public transport.

"We need to look at everything in a case by case way," he told the BBC's Radio 4 Today programme.

"Just going sort of rather gung-ho, opening up completely - a problem with that is, is that isn't just you. You have to respect the your colleagues, and I think just relying on from these individual judgement of what they should be doing - they may just think too much about themselves and not about the people that they could potentially infect."

Sir Paul said he also believes coronavirus testing must continue and there should be a focus on creating a safe work environment."

If he does then it further confirms that he was never "following the science" but following the hysteria .

Yes and to keep reminding people ‘there is s pandemic!’
Zero evidence for anything else.
Would love to have a time machine to see how people in the future judge the superstitious attachment some people now have to masks.
Hope there will be documentation to show future historians that many rational people knew they were bollocks all along..

@TeddingtonTrashbag Not certain about superstition ... but have you heard of 'science'? Look it up.

*Don’t forget that YouGov is a very biased site

It would be like asking Mumsnet in March 2020 “Should people stay THE FUCK at home” you’d get at least 90% yes result.*

This! Grin

OneinNine · 07/07/2021 10:38

In fairness Paul Nurse worked on the molecular biology of cell division (yeast if I remember correctly) and not on the epidemiology of infectious diseases. Very intelligent guy, yes, but not his field.

luckylavender · 07/07/2021 10:42

@Temp023 - you really think it's over?!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 07/07/2021 11:17

Why is Yougov a biased site? Biased against what? Your opinion?

It’s owned by a Tory.
