I (as many are) have been waiting for this day since March last year. I remember believing Boris when he said ‘12 weeks to turn the tide’
I remember thinking how great it would be when we could go back to our old lives.

Ive never really worried about catching Covid. I’ve seen the stats. I’m 3 weeks post 1st jab. I don’t necessarily think that masks make much difference (not the ones most of us wear) and I’ve always thought that lockdown measures have been overly harsh in some instances and have worried about the state of people’s MH and financial positions.

Now, all of a sudden, I feel afraid. I read that they’re scrapping almost everything on 19th July and I can’t get my head around it. I all of a sudden feel anxious about going back to ‘normality’

Does anyone else feel this way?

Wetherspoons have to do that as they risk a fine. It’s not being difficult for the sake of it.

This is what I worry about. I want to and will continue distancing from strangers, it feels the right thing to do for them. I know my risk assessment but I don’t know theirs. however it’s clear not all will give everyone that courtesy.

JaceLancs · 05/07/2021 22:05

It’s not come soon enough for me - I am fairly pleased with today’s news and will boycotting anywhere after 19th that tries to carry on with restrictions unnecessarily
Unfortunately a lot of people have been terrified by the propaganda - I witnessed a work based situation today where one person refused to share a well ventilated office with one other person in case of catching Covid - both individuals are double vaccinated (second jab over a month ago) the desks are over 2 metres apart so when seated they would be over 4 metres away from each other as desks are 1 metre wide
I’ve had visitors refusing to sign in visitors book for fire regs - even using their own pen - when it can be seen by last entry that days have elapsed since last visitor

Manchester has pretty much been in lockdown throughout the whole pandemic so restrictions have just become a way of life. It will be very strange to go back to 'normal' after all this time.

I so want 'freedom day' to be true but I just can't see it, but then maybe all the broken promises and let downs have jaded me.

Unfortunately, I think we will be back in local restrictions before long when our hospitals start getting full again.

MrsLCSofLichfield · 05/07/2021 22:08

If not now, when?

Well since you ask, Alexander, for me it'll be maybe when we have a PM who is not a total ARSE.

TableFlowerss · 05/07/2021 22:11

No I don’t feel like you at all.

It’s never going away. I think they’ve finally come to the conclusion that it’s like pissing in a sieve and hoping it doesn’t leak 🙄

One all adults have been offered the vaccine that is it. There is nothing more that can be done. Ever.

People will die, but people will also die of flu. Yet it would be unthinkable to put restrictions in place to prevent people dying from the flu. That’s never been an option in the past and now the numbers of covid deaths will mimic flu deaths so they can’t justify restrictions any longer.

wordsareveryunnecessary · 05/07/2021 22:12

I would like masks on public transport to remain and it's been great having screens up between tables in restaurants and pubs.
Table service is a much pleasanter experience for the customers

With Peru Lambda variant in London and imported elsewhere within UK already detected - I am assuming owing to the recent public anger towards the UK/English political “leadership” this is just following the popularism politics, not data and not science. The UK home nations are however
following the data and science and not politics and so will listen to scientists and not incompetent “on the (hand) job” hypocritical politicians behind in recent elections. This simply gives the English government the perfect excuse arguing that the incompetent unfit for purpose corrupt politicians now suddenly trust the English public to be proactive, responsible, pragmatic, health and safety aware with a collective civic duty of care. The data conclusively suggests this is the polar opposite to reality in snowflake attention seeking England where Covid rule breaking is a national sport where there is never any respect for fellow citizens especially not to the most clinically vulnerable with least health privilege. Pushing untested Covid into care homes, fake or no PPE initially for medics, unfit for purpose corrupt overpriced non performing Test Trace and Trace gravy train, non enforcement of emergency criminal Covid laws along with Covid fatigue, unhealthy and obese UK populations, and freedoms overriding Covid security means WHAT COULD POSSIBLY GO RIGHT as the next wave of Indian Delta/Delta Plus and now Peru Lambda takes off! The only apparent reason is to open up now before winter or not open fully this year. I will be amazed if this is not yet the latest living and dying with Covid perpetual unsustainable open and close cycle. Unlike New Zealand and Australia tackling the pandemic seriously and scientifically we in England are ensuring our world beating per capita Covid fatalities and long Covid data is not the fault of the government as it is now your fault for continued super spreading and overseas nations rejecting international mixing with English visitors.

We asked for 2 tables, nothing there against any rules. There was no need whatsoever to have us followed by staff wearing body cams, it felt quite aggressive, the opposite of what hospitality is meant to be.

Good post @ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia

Puppysharness · 05/07/2021 22:34

I feel very…. Meh.

Can’t muster up any excitement for the ‘changes’ that are coming.

Probably because there will be another U turn and for me, life without travel is still a long way from normal life.

AbsolutelyYes · 05/07/2021 23:12

@TheGenealogist

I'm conflicted - because I live in fecking Scotland and Queen Nicola has been waiting to see what Boris does so she can do the opposite.

Social distancing, masks and hundreds of kids isolating in Scotland until 2039 then?

WHO have said today that Scotland has the highest number of Covid cases in Europe.
Meltinthemiddle · 05/07/2021 23:15

I feel more anxious about just mixing and being with people again if I'm honest. I'm due to get second jab so not too worried about covid after that. I just feel deflated rather then happy, anxious and sad. Actually going to miss dh when he goes back to work and I know the dog will!

Meltinthemiddle · 05/07/2021 23:16

Worried about my kids and vulnerable family especially those who've refused the vaccine 😔

Sidesaladofchips · 05/07/2021 23:22

@MyCreateIsUsernamed

Tories always use the phrase "common sense approach" for matters they cba to take responsibility for and to ensure that anyone badly impacted by them has as little recourse as possible.

So it's consistent at least.

This is so true. Bloody reckless, feckless, irresponsible Tory government. Total joke.

The screens are awful!

I can't wait for those hideous things to go.

Boomisshiss · 05/07/2021 23:34

I am so jealous of you all in England looks like mask and social distancing will be here in Scotland for the foreseeable.

AfternoonToffee · 05/07/2021 23:35

I'm with you OP, it has taken me quite by surprise. I'm not worried about being ill as such, I just see constant self isolations.

I feel very flat today about lots of things, so this just reflects my mood.

Silverparting · 05/07/2021 23:37

Cases are rampant here in schools.

My teens are too young for vaccinations.

It's a foolish move, esp when you see what's going on in schools.

Pinchoftums · 05/07/2021 23:39

If my kids schools go back into lockdown again because people are too pathetic to wear a mask in some situations I might dump them on their door to look after for however many weeks they have off.
I wish he had opened everything with some social distancing and mask wearing.

Skinnytailedsquirrel · 05/07/2021 23:40

I feel so sorry for shop workers and other who are going to have to face idiots without masks.

I don't want to go back to crowded restaurants, they were horrible enough before.

It's going to go wrong. He's trusting the public. The public are, mostly, stupid.

Boomisshiss · 05/07/2021 23:42

Does this mean GPS and dentist can start running a normal service again ?

Covid is not going to go away. The vaccines make things as safe as they can be. Common sense approach or restrictions for ever? I know what I prefer.
Wherediditgo · 05/07/2021 23:50

@Slub

Nope can't wait. 'They' are counting on people like you OP to carry on feeling 'the fear' Me? I'll be bloody well enjoying my life free of the restrictions. #youdoyou
This is the mental thing. I know we have been manipulated. I know we’ve been fed propaganda. I’ve spent the whole time thinking that lockdown measures were too harsh. I know this in my rational brain…

So why the hell am I struggling?!

@Oblomov21

Not conflicted. He wants any spike there is to be in the summer for many reasons. Seems sound.

I don't get what you are having a problem with.

To be honest, I don’t really get what I have a problem with! So am finding it hard to process it, let alone explain it Grin
