I (as many are) have been waiting for this day since March last year. I remember believing Boris when he said ‘12 weeks to turn the tide’
I remember thinking how great it would be when we could go back to our old lives.

Ive never really worried about catching Covid. I’ve seen the stats. I’m 3 weeks post 1st jab. I don’t necessarily think that masks make much difference (not the ones most of us wear) and I’ve always thought that lockdown measures have been overly harsh in some instances and have worried about the state of people’s MH and financial positions.

Now, all of a sudden, I feel afraid. I read that they’re scrapping almost everything on 19th July and I can’t get my head around it. I all of a sudden feel anxious about going back to ‘normality’

Does anyone else feel this way?

I’m in Wales and our restrictions will definitely remain in place for longer than England’s. But whatever happens there will definitely have an effect on our stats simply because the border will remain open for free travel between the 2 countries.

I feel sorry for the younger people in England who won’t get their 2nd vaccination until the end of September, won’t be fully protected until the middle of October yet everything opens up without restriction 3 months ahead of that. They’ve given up so much but now are expected to return to workplaces without any legislation to protect them.

Kanaloa · 05/07/2021 19:58

I’m pleased about it. There’s really no alternative at this point, it can’t carry on like this forever. And if people want to continue wearing masks etc then of course they can.

3teens2cats · 05/07/2021 19:58

I feel that loads of people are going to catch it and then be mighty pissed off because the 10 day isolation will still apply. Government will turn round and say 'well its personal responsibility now' so sorry but tough.

starfishmummy · 05/07/2021 19:59

@SonnetForSpring

I do think and I hope that anyone who isnt vaccinated or is vulnerable, takes care.
We certainly will. DS (young adult) is CEV. We have not spent the last 15 months with lives on hold to keep him safe to fall at this hurdle.
Overthebow · 05/07/2021 20:00

No not worried. Very pleased not to have to worry about wearing a mask or remembering to distance when out in shops etc.

I thought double vaccinated wouldn’t have to?

Maybe I misheard

Lemonmelonsun · 05/07/2021 20:02

I'm very happy about restrictions lifted, and I'm aldi slightly relived on the back peddle on... This is it rhetoric we've had to endure..

I think it's a fluid situation but requires the fluid response... We are in unknown waters.

Chris whitty is scared of winter and he wants to get this out the way.

Interesting as to what will happen as cases explode and no lock down etc..

TeddingtonTrashbag · 05/07/2021 20:03

Oh, God, I hope this expression goes too!
Utterly ridiculous.

Slub · 05/07/2021 20:03

Nope can't wait.
'They' are counting on people like you OP to carry on feeling 'the fear'
Me? I'll be bloody well enjoying my life free of the restrictions.

Well said!
Waxonwaxoff0 · 05/07/2021 20:04

@woohoo54

I wonder if all the people saying they don't they're happy to see all the restrictions removed have the benefit of being double jabbed?
Nope, won't be double jabbed until mid August. Why would I be bothered when I'm at such low risk as a healthy 30 year old? Restrictions were never there to protect me, they were to protect the elderly and vulnerable and the NHS.
BlondeCornish · 05/07/2021 20:09

Cannot wait for the 19th! No more masks and no more dreading my kids being sent home from school because of the ridiculous ‘close contact rules 🥳

Theunamedcat · 05/07/2021 20:10

Personally I'm making a few more masks for winter just in case he brings them back im fed up of hand washing them nightly

Exactly my thoughts. This virus is not going to disappear anytime soon and at some stage we all have to start taking responsibility for ourselves again.
3teens2cats · 05/07/2021 20:11

I understood that contacts wouldn't have to isolate if double jabbed but if you test positive then it doesn't matter. There are plenty of young people who would still have to isolate as contacts so that will cause pressure on businesses who employ lots of young people.
I am happy everything is opening up but under no illusion that the inconvenience is over. My 18 Yr old has covid at the moment. He caught it in the pub from one of his friends.

nordica · 05/07/2021 20:11

For me it's always been about not wanting to catch covid because it would just be massively disruptive to my life. I don't worry about dying, but it's clearly a nasty virus and I don't want it! A bit like I don't want to get norovirus or break my ankle - not some disproportionate anxiety about death but just rather avoiding it if I can. And I have friends who have had CFS/ME for years so I do worry about long covid.

I'm lucky to be able to WFH but I really feel for retail and transport workers in particular who will be at an increased risk. And the NHS staff who have been at a breaking point all year and will no doubt have a hell of a year to look forward to as well. I wonder how this will affect services in general too if lots of people are ill at the same time. Our bin collections seem to be permanently late now because the staff is always off work ill or isolating.

Dustyhedge · 05/07/2021 20:15

I think there has been a shift in behaviour towards this. Eg my toddler’s gymnastics class is now allowed to be mask free in the gym. Masks are optional but the vast majority of parents are whipping them off ASAP. I have to say it is a much nicer experience all round. There is one or two that don’t. I suspect that will be reflective of lots of venues. I’m not sure what that means for those who are vulnerable. It may be that some venues take a stance that they will keep social distancing.

RevolvingPivot · 05/07/2021 20:15

Hi. I'm probably being really thick. Can someone explain why on the 19th July people won't be passing the virus on? I don't understand. Or are cases so low that hardly anyone will have it to pass on?

They will be passing it on.

That's a pretty unempathic response to someone who has a CEV child.

The plan isn’t to stop it being passed on. But to avoid peak and winter flu / illness at same time.
bakewelltarty · 05/07/2021 20:23

I don't understand this 'personal responsibility' rubbish. I'm not free to make my own decisions. I have to commute to london to work. No face masks or social distancing at work or public transport. Where am I free to make my own decisions?? Oh yes I suppose I could always quit my job and go on universal credit instead. Hmm

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 05/07/2021 20:23

I don't feel anxious in general, but I'm gonna pissed off if having to book ahead to go anywhere and do anything stays.

If I can't have spontaneity I might as well be in lockdown. no freedom = prison

KurtWilde · 05/07/2021 20:27

I'm sick of all of it and the 19th can't come quick enough quite frankly. 14 days and counting.

beigebrownblue · 05/07/2021 20:27

In the main I'm also going with the approach somehow developed over the past year and a half which kind of amounts to

'Prepare for the worst and then if it's better than that you will get a nice surprise'..

make sense to anyone?
