Eh??? How can a variant that originated somewhere else entirely be our fault for it spreading to Europe. We have rules against travel but if Europe are allowing a (minority) of idiots to travel in that's kind of where it comes from. That's like saying it's all India's fault as the variant originated there. A virus/pandemic doesn't work that way.

I’m in Spain at the moment. Everyone seems quite happy we are here.
It’s not a hugely popular area with Brits anyway but there are even fewer than normal.

Has anybody else noticed the border between France and Spain? It’s glaringly obvious that there are testing differences between countries. How bizarre neighbouring areas are so starkly different. Looks like Spain are testing in a similar way to us maybe?

Merkel does not want borders shut. Non vaccinated Germans are travelling throughout the EU.

Merkel wants borders shut to fully vaccinated UK travellers.

Merkel is opening up Germany to fully vaccinated Americans.

Merkel’s approach is aimed at blaming UK for the Delta wave which will soon hit Germany and cause fatalities because of the slow start to the vaccine roll out and the dire messaging of her government around vaccines.

I think they’re right to put it off as much as they can as they did to try and get as many people vaccinated before the numbers start rising again.

We test more, we sequence more. We are ahead with vaccines. The move is political… the variant is already in Europe, so cases are going to spike again. Germany (possibly France) will run a dialogue that it’s the uk fault. I think we should shut our boarders with Germany and see what they say when shit hits the fan regardless of uk travel
