Delta variant - anyone managed to not catch it from someone in their household?

IHeartKingThistle · 01/07/2021 20:26

DD (14) has Covid atm, I'm assuming the Delta variant. When I had Covid last year I kept windows open, stayed in my room for 10 days and no one else caught it. But I know this variant is more transmissible.
DH and I are double jabbed but we have another DC. Really hoping we can avoid it by being careful - anyone managed it?!

I’ll let you know tomorrow or Saturday. DS has tested positive and now I’m feeling similar to what he was. I am double jabbed but went for a test today. Had laterals but all negative.

awonderfuladventure · 01/07/2021 20:42

Dh and I never caught the delta variant off 2 of our boys, both double vaccinated. We do have a lot of space to spread out in but before they tested positive we were in the car together and hugging etc.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 01/07/2021 20:45

My 14 yo had just taken a PCR and has what I think will be delta variant covid. Two adults and younger child trying to stay out of her way. To be fair she self isolates in her room out of choice 99% of the time so I'm cautiously optimistic.

IHeartKingThistle · 01/07/2021 20:48

Fingers crossed!

Yes my 7 year old had it at half term. There are five of us in the house including him and no one else caught it. We had all the windows open every day, and he slept with his bedroom window open. His brother usually sleeps in there with him but that week he didn't. Obviously, he is only 7 so I still gave him cuddles etc, we did spend a lot of time in the garden though because the weather was good.

TheVolturi · 01/07/2021 20:51

I have only had one vaccine as well.

IHeartKingThistle · 01/07/2021 21:04

Oh I hope we're that lucky!

Not me but a colleague in a household of 5 only 2 had it. Kept apart as much as possible but 3 kids between 8 and 16 and two adults (one with one vaccine and one with none).

Lakeshore6 · 01/07/2021 21:11

My husband had 3 weeks of continuous exposure to covid in our household (what a joy) and he still never caught it.

mamaduckbone · 01/07/2021 21:21

My 15yo ds tested positive so we were all self-isolating until this Tuesday. Once he'd tested positive he wore a mask downstairs, stayed in his room as much as possible and we had doors and windows open, but presumably he was infectious for a few days before that and none of us caught it. Dh and I are both double vaccinated but I quite expected ds11 to pick it up. It may or may not have been the delta variant but as it seems to be flying round the local teenagers I'd assume it was.

CointreauVersial · 01/07/2021 22:34

I will let you know in a week's time!

DD1 (20) is barricaded in her room, having come home from uni with Covid. We are due to go on holiday next weekend so I will be FURIOUS if we catch it. We are both double-jabbed, and the whole family have dodged the Covid bullet until now, the 11th hour...

She has had one jab, and was due for her 2nd on Sunday (now postponed) but it went around her uni housemates like wildfire.

goneroguetoday · 01/07/2021 22:42

If you had delta, how did you feel? I am not feeling well but have tried so many times to do a lateral flow but unsuccessfully (I vomit)

LemonCake79 · 01/07/2021 23:01

Friend's 11yo DS tested positive and was really quite poorly so any distancing was impossible. No one else in the household caught it (2 x single jabbed parents and 1 x 8yo). All confirmed by two PCRs throughout the ten days.

Assume it was delta as we live in a delta hotspot.

anothernamereally · 02/07/2021 00:22

Household of 8 and only 2 of us caught it (1 vaccinated adult and teen)

As to how I felt - it was like hay fever x100 horrific headache, sneezing, runny nose, really really itchy eyes, cough was very slight, no fever or loss of taste/smell

TheVolturi · 02/07/2021 10:03

You can just do both nostrils you know?
BIoodyStupidJohnson · 02/07/2021 10:15

BIL got it (unvaccinated bloke in his 30s) just over a fortnight ago. They're in an area that's been a Delta hotspot from the start so smart money says it's that.

His wife and kids didn't get it. And they're a 'one down, all down' kind of house (no room to keep separate, house too small).

But he was asymptomatic throughout so maybe that contributed to the not spreading thing.

goneroguetoday · 02/07/2021 13:52

@TheVolturi this is what I've tried for PCR and hope it returns a result because if it goes to far I also start to retch. This is not being difficult. My body and perhaps mind struggle with anything relatively medical procedure like

My children only do it this way. My ds got his positive on lateral flow and pcr this way.

HelloMissus · 02/07/2021 17:18

My DD managed not to catch it from someone she shared a bed and a water bottle with Shock
She’s made of some sort of Teflon Grin

HelloMissus · 02/07/2021 17:18

Should add she’s not yet had her vaccine.

Wigeon · 02/07/2021 18:18

In our household so far: DD (13) tested positive on Sunday, I just tested positive on a PCR yesterday after getting symptoms, DH has been feeling ropey and went for a PCR today and I’d be surprised if he hadn’t got it too.

I’ve had 2 vaccine doses and the 2nd was 5 weeks ago, so I should be fully protected by now. Still managed to get symptomatic Covid. DH has had one dose (second was blimmimg due this week!).

Have been keeping doors and windows open but it’s almost impossible to properly distance from DD in the size our house is.

DD2 seems ok so far but who knows.

IHeartKingThistle · 03/07/2021 19:26

Sorry to hear that Wigeon.

I've got a headache and feel knackered today but that's fairly standard for me! I'm so on edge thinking every little thing is one of us starting with it.

@HelloMissus wow, the scientists need to figure out what she's got going on!

DS tested positive on Monday so I'll let you know! DS2 and I are going for a PCR tomorrow (also had one on weds which was negative)

Stillcrikey · 03/07/2021 19:32

Yep, me. Both dh and ds tested positive (and had symptoms). Dh and I are double jabbed, ds has had one dose.
We didn’t isolate from each other, just carried on regular life.
I was negative throughout (I was part of a study where I tested every day for the whole isolation time). Still negative at the end.
