Have you had a +PCR after a -PCR?

Hi,

I started showing symptoms on Saturday, LFT was negative and PCR was negative.

Symptoms have become progressively worse to the point where I'm incredibly breathless (being 33 weeks pregnant doesn't help!)

I did an LFT and got a negative (attached pic)

I want to go for another PCR but DH is going ballistic and calling me a hypochondriac.

Of course other illnesses exist, I know that. But I'm in an area where cases have rose by 80% and I've got the following symptoms:

Sore throat
Temperature (does come down with paracetamol)
Chesty cough
Snot
Upset stomach
No taste or smell

We've got a little caravan holiday booked for Monday so I can see why DH is upset as I got a negative result on Sunday but the symptoms are much worse now

Any replies I really appreciate. I have health anxiety and I've had many complications in this pregnancy so that's probably making me more scared of covid than the normal rational version of me would be

I can't attach the pic but it was negative lft

I'd get another one, there is an incubation period.

I'd also tell my DH to back off and not go "ballistic" at me and call me names.

IDidntFloatUpTheLaganInABubble · 30/06/2021 14:28

I did an lft yesterday morning which was negative and another one last night which was positive.

DH and DD both positive as well so not a surprise!

Daisy829 · 30/06/2021 14:30

Not me but my friend did. Took about a week after symptoms started & 2 pcr tests until hers came back negative.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 30/06/2021 14:51

Yep. PCRs are more reliable than LFTs at identifying a positive case, but they aren't infallible. Still plenty of false negatives.

No harm in getting another one if you are not sure. It could well be something else, but seems like the best and most responsible option would be to get another test.

OliveTree75 · 30/06/2021 14:55

My DS had a negative pcr followed by a positive 4 days later.
My DP was negative with on a lateral flow and then positive a few hours later as well.

wjg65ka · 30/06/2021 15:24

This was the lft. I'm getting worse as the day goes on but can't really take anything other than paracetamol. I'm booking another PCR to confirm but DH thinks I'm mad because I had a negative

But I literally feel so much worse and have every symptom

I think he's pissed off about the whole isolating, it's happened a few times now we're we've both had to take time off work. I can understand his frustration, like everyone else in the country we're all stressed out about the situation.

I just don't want to risk going about day to life because I had a negative PCR on Sunday when I could potentially be positive, I didn't have this many symptoms last time I tested

Hi OP, I've just had a similar experience.

Similar symptoms to you. Got a PCR on Saturday, came back negative on Monday.

The symptoms got worse and on Monday I had an awful raging cough, it was so bad and painful I was convinced this is covid. I spoke to 111 who advised to get another PCR test and isolate again. Did another test Tuesday night and got a negative result again.

I think there is a covid dupe going around at the moment, or a lot of false negatives.

I've had negative LFTs too

Wakemeuuuup · 30/06/2021 15:36

I'm sure it's just the light but I can see a very faint line on that lft. I think it's positive, sorry

bengalcat · 30/06/2021 15:36

At 33 weeks you need to seek medical advice - contact your hospitals maternity triage line and see where they’ll direct you ( in our hospital you’d be sent to A and E )

I'd say that's a positive LFT. They say it doesn't matter how faint that second line is.

Definitely isolate and get another PCR to confirm.

Needingsupportplease · 30/06/2021 15:43

I can see a second line too. Hope you're ok especially being pregnant how worrying. Try to relax as anxiety will make you feel a million times worse. Get another pcr and some advice from triage

NoEffingWaytoSurvive · 30/06/2021 15:46

The lft looks positive to me

wjg65ka · 30/06/2021 15:46

@bengalcat I've been to see my midwife this morning for a blood test (I explained the situation prior to going and she was happy to see me) she told me to take paracetamol. As I've got worse I've called the MAU and they said to continue as I am and keep my fluids up Sad

My DS had a negative LFT on Saturday (slight sore throat and slight cough.. asthmatic and gets hayfever so thought was that but tested anyway). Monday morning he was worse so tested again to be on the safe side. Positive this time. Went for a ‘proper’ test Monday afternoon and came back positive yesterday.

WreckTangled · 30/06/2021 15:48

My sister had TWO negative PCR tests before she finally tested positive. I think the positive test was six days after the onset of symptoms.

Todaytomorrowyesterday · 30/06/2021 15:51

LFT are useless if you having symptoms you need to use PCR. Our school are having a nightmare with this - parents use a LFT saying it was negative…..2 bubbles burst and spread was worse as the child was sent into the school!!

At Christmas family went down with it - my sister had minor symptoms, took a PCR test negative. 3 days later (on the day of the 10 day self isolation) she took another PCR - positive.

Daisy829 · 30/06/2021 16:22

I can see a slight line too im afraid. Just go for a pcr then you will know where you stand. Hope you feel better soon.

I'm going to book a PCR, hopefully find out for sure. There's definetly something going around but I can't settle until I know for sure

OP posts:
wjg65ka · 30/06/2021 16:51

@Nofriend I explained to the midwife my circumstances, I just want to make that clear. I showed her the lateral flow too which she said was negative. I wouldn't of intentionally put her at risk. She was happy to continue to see me even though I told her I had symptoms that had worsened since my last PCR

I just don't want anyone thinking I would put her or others at risk

OP posts:
Flaxmeadow · 30/06/2021 17:07

As others have said. That LFT could be positive and maybe you should take another PCR test

Even a faint line is classed as positive and there does seem to be one in the image you've shown us.

Sorry OP, hope you're feeling better soon Flowers

There's no line on that LFT. Go for another PCR though, no harm.
