The Government has announced that senior executives can temporarily leave quarantine in England if they are undertaking business activities which will bring 'significant economic benefit' to the economy.

I predict a big public backlash about this.

MercyBooth · 29/06/2021 15:14

While kids are sat at home for days.

grabajab · 29/06/2021 15:16

I think they did this previously and it was linked to a lot of transmission - wasn't it with the South African variant?

LivinLaVidaLoki · 29/06/2021 15:16

Tens of thpusands of working parents bring "significant economic benefit" to the country, yet can't because they have to constantly isolate due to the fact their children may, or may not have been contact with someone with covid......
What a fucking joke.

grabajab · 29/06/2021 15:17

Yes, the government are astudiously ignoring the catastrophe of mass school self-isolations of healthy pupils with negative PCR tests (so neither infected nor infectious)

Wellbythebloodyhell · 29/06/2021 15:18

What a load of bollocks either its necessary to isolate or it isn't economics doesn't come into it

Yep it was in early December, shortly followed by highest case and death rates in the world and many months of lockdown. Not necessarily directly related.

But I understand many of the South African variant cases that came into the country and spread were due to this 'executive' exemption from quarantine.

OliveTree75 · 29/06/2021 15:25

Ridiculous! I am having to take half days this week because my ds has to isolate. I am a primary teacher so not only have 90 kids been sent home from his school, it has caused a staffing problem at my school too. There are 3 of us in the same boat this week as well.

MiaMc · 29/06/2021 15:28

It’s not news - there’s always been a list of roles exempt from quarantine.
(Let’s not confuse with isolation. If they had symptoms or had come into contact with someone with covid, they would still need to isolate)

Do you mean they have to take time off work to look after primary age children as you don't have to isolate just because your child is.
ARealTrip · 29/06/2021 15:53

Like the member of parliament coming back from India and going straight back to work as they are excempt from isolating and introducing the delta variant to Westminster?
When covid is airborne.

Bellringer · 29/06/2021 16:04

Boris doesn't care about us, or nhs, it's all about money

Tealightsandd · 29/06/2021 16:04

Yes. It's why I keep saying we need to do what other countries did/are doing. Ban ALL non essential travel. That very much includes business jollies.

Oh yes they're most definitely taking the piss. The brainless greedy idiots in charge of the UK.

Their border policy has quite literally been killing and disabling the people who fund them. MPs are paid for by us, the taxpayer.

It's thanks our wide open borders that we have one of the highest death rates and tolls in the world. It's why 2 million plus are facing long term disability, it's why so many businesses are wrecked - and it's we've had such long lockdowns.

We nearly did it. At the end of the winter lockdown cases were low and the vaccine rollout was going well. Then we imported the Delta aka Boris variant.

Now we're stuck with increasing cases of a more contagious strain, more hospitalisations, more needless deaths, more avoidable disabilities, more economic damage.

Meanwhile they don't themselves suffer the consequences of their greed, idocy, and negligence. Oh no. It's safe to drop all restrictions they say... but not for us. Full return to Parliament? Oh no. Covid safe, you see...

I think we should get Biden and/or Merkel to temporarily take over here.

Tealightsandd · 29/06/2021 16:10

Other countries banned non essential travel.

The UK didn't. Not really.

That's why we're in the situation we're in now.

Cases were low at the end of the winter lockdown. We could have had proper 'freedom'. Freedom without mass death and disability. But the government kept our borders wide open. And in came the Boris strain (which the government then allowed to freely spread).

And so we become the high risk country that anywhere sensible restricts entry from.

Dustyboots · 29/06/2021 16:52

They've even given up pretending there's a disparity between them and us now.

Thunderingwankgoblet · 29/06/2021 17:01

The posters arguing for more restrictions need to cop on. Like the solution to any of this is more restriction....they’ve got you exactly where they want you, begging for more punishment.

donquixotedelamancha · 29/06/2021 17:15

if they are undertaking business activities which will bring 'significant economic benefit' to the economy.

So, just to be clear, how much do you need to have donated to the Tory party?

bollihigh · 29/06/2021 17:21

Mistresses on the pay roll , mates with their snouts in the trough, Brexit allegedly 'done', up in the polls - what could possibly go wrong..

I'd say laughing hysterically at how easy it is to fool most of the people most of the time and wrap yourself in a flag of St George or if pushed a Union Jack.

QuentininQuarantino · 29/06/2021 17:27

Meanwhile there are families torn apart by the border policy. It’s inhumane.

RedToothBrush · 29/06/2021 17:43

Ofgs.
What a load of drama.

CovidCorvid · 29/06/2021 17:46

Is there a legal definition of senior executive or significant economic benefit.

I’m quite senior in my organisation so guess I could call myself an executive and I can make a tenuous link to how my role benefits the economy. 🤷‍♀️

This Government is an absolute disgrace in just about every sense. Hypocrisy, cronyism and corruption to the core.
3cats2kids · 29/06/2021 17:52

While kids have their education fucked?!

Like others have said, either you need to isolate or you don’t. Being rich and ‘important’ shouldn’t come into it.
