Are lots of non-covid bugs going around where you live?

So many people I know have a nasty bug at the mo: coughing, fever, laid up in bed. All tested negative for covid (including PCR tests). One friend is convinced it’s covid despite this, the delta version evading tests. I think it’s just down to more people mingling and the usual bugs and viruses having a field day after being victimless for months.

Still, interested to know if others are finding this too?

About 'testing immune systems'. The experts (doctors and scientists) have explained there's absolutely not need whatsoever to expose people to infections. It does not increase their ability to fight them off. That is a myth.

Tealightsandd · 28/06/2021 22:52

I suspect people might be confusing viruses with bacteria, when it comes to exposure for the immune system. Yes, too much antibacterial stuff isn't ideal. That's why it's better to use plain soap and water when washing hands (although obviously sanitisers are needed for when out and about).

And yet here we are gaining antibodies after having covid 🤷🏻‍♀️
Tealightsandd · 29/06/2021 00:09

Yes, antibiotics to Covid, not any other virus. Those antibodies won't stop you catching another virus or make you better able to fight it off.

Starlightstarbright1 · 29/06/2021 00:13

Everyone i know who is ill has covid.. and its quite a few..so no.

I don’t think anyone thinks having covid protects them from flu or anything do they??

@Thewiseoneincognito

You not seen the news this week about record numbers of young kids seeking medical attention because all the winter bugs have been suppressed by lockdown?

findadressforme · 29/06/2021 03:37

Yep nasty colds in this house too! Heavy headache, tired, snotty, throat on fire! Negative tests.

Spongeb0b · 29/06/2021 13:43

Negative for me today too

alloalloallo · 29/06/2021 13:56

I’ve had horrendous hay fever recently. I think I read the pollen count has been really high this June.

I also had a stinking cold - temperature, banging headache, cough, fatigue, sore throat, muscle aches and pains. I had 2 PCR tests as when the first one came back negative, I wasn’t convinced it was right. It hung around for ages - feel fine now, but my head still feels full of snot.

Not helped by the hay fever either

HereWeGoAgain24 · 29/06/2021 14:11

Spoke to my GP today who said my negative test could've been a false negative but i don't need to get another test. I work in health care and the thought of a false negative possibility didn't sit right with me so I spoke to 111 who advised me to book another test and isolate.

Seems like a lot of people having the same thing.

BarbarianMum · 29/06/2021 14:19

A lot of hayfever and ever increasing amounts of the delta variant unfortunately Sad

Hay fever like symptoms are recognised as being Delta symptoms which makes it very hard to determine what the heck you actually have.
niceupthedance · 29/06/2021 14:31

Do you all have very young kids? The only person I know who has been unwell has a 2 year old

HidingFromTheChildren · 29/06/2021 14:34

Whole household of 4 ill at the same time as being told to isolate by the nhs app. Tested neg. Felt achey, fatigued with headache & no appetite.

Getting better now...hoping ive lost a few lb.

Halloweenrainbow · 29/06/2021 14:37

There definately seems to be a Covid dupe going around. We've all had a flu-like virus. I had headache, chest pain, cough, sore throat. PCR negative. Now I've lost sense of taste and smell also.

BarbarianMum · 29/06/2021 14:39

@Thewiseoneincognito yes exactly. Esp if, like my family, you stream at this time of year anyway.

NearlyAlwaysInsane · 29/06/2021 14:40

Whole household here ill with cough, flu-like symptoms, some of us had fever, etc. All tested with PCR and LFTs, all negative. Talking to other parents it seems to have been a common story in our area. Weird that it's the sort of thing we normally expect in winter, not in June.

QwertyGirly · 29/06/2021 14:40

No bugs except a mild cold going around, which is completely normal for this time of year. I work in a school and absolutely no more bugs going around than normal, I'd say less.

Hay fever is bad though this year.

I was convinced I had Covid and was shocked when my first PCR test came back negative so did another - also came back negative. I didn’t completely lose my sense of taste though, couldn’t smell anything because my nose was blocked

I definitely had hay fever as well - meds helped and as soon as the hot weather broke and the pollen count dropped, the symptoms disappeared.

SpnBaby1967 · 29/06/2021 19:45

That's what happens when people are shut away or kept at a distance from other people. We have to catch colds and things to keep our immunity up.

AliceW89 · 30/06/2021 10:36

Glad I found this thread, I was going to post something similar. I’ve been sick for about 3 weeks now. Awful chesty, phlegm-y (is that a word?) cough with stuffed nose and headache. Keep nearly shaking it off then it settles on my chest again. So far 2 x negative PCRs and I'm double vaccinated. Im gobsmacked how unwell I am - I usually shake of colds pretty quickly! Healing vibes to all of you in the same boat!

KB921 · 30/06/2021 10:47

There's something going around where I live. Very similar symptoms to covid, not just a simple cold either. Children have hacking coughs, chest infections etc and feeling rotten. Many have had pcr tests and all negative. Schools have sent letters home saying there's a non covid virus going around but pcr tests are still needed

My daughter had a nasty cough last week. Tested negative. My son had a sore throat for one day 10 days ago. I hope that was his immune response to whatever is going around and he's not going to get it now. Half of his class have it. He hasn't caught it off Dd or off the class so I just hope the throat was it for him!

PaulaPetunia · 30/06/2021 10:49

This happened to me on the first return to school post lockdown.
Bound to happen really.

PaulaTrilloe · 30/06/2021 11:18

There seems to be a lot of upset stomachs doing the rounds here since May
