Just wondering how many people on here have experience of children with long Covid?

  1. I know a child who got Kawasaki syndrome (or disease) because of covid. Spent months in hospital and some 15 months later is still incredibly unwell.
Nocutenamesleft · 27/06/2021 17:47

It’s not actually called Kawasaki of whatever. I think it’s called Tims? Or pims?

BojackHorsewoman · 27/06/2021 17:47

If we're doing adults, I know one older gent who sadly died of covid last Christmas.

My PT has a client with long covid, young and previously extremely fit and healthy, which is very sad.

Two others were more or less asymptomatic, one was completely asymptomatic and only found out she'd had it as she'd needed an antibody test for work.

A number of people at DC school have had it but nothing serious. Nobody from the school, that we know of, went to hospital or anything, including parents who've caught it.

lughnasadh · 27/06/2021 17:50

None, but I only know of a couple of people who knowingly had covid.

I've worked with the public throughout the pandemic, but no one I know has been ill.

DD had covid in Jan 2021 and has some long covid symptoms.

ILookAtTheFloor · 27/06/2021 17:51

I know a dozen or so children who have had covid, none have long covid.

That compares to 60 odd adults I know, of which 2 have long covid, mostly getting out of breath easily but still working etc.

I feel it needs to be defined more.

ComDummings · 27/06/2021 17:52

None and I don’t know a single child who has had covid at all even though I know quite a few adults who have had it, including a couple of deaths.

FourTeaFallOut · 27/06/2021 17:55

None. I know one 12 year old who was quite poorly for a week or so but then sprung back to usual form.

Malteser71 · 27/06/2021 17:55

The thread asks about children.

I know no children who’ve had long covid.

kimlo · 27/06/2021 17:56

one dd1s friend. Struggles woth breathing and gets breathless walking.

Dd1s asthma hasn't been right since she had covid, but she is always triggered by a virus.

If we are doing adults too my cousin also has long covid she's in her 40's.

bookworm14 · 27/06/2021 18:01

Zero.

SoOvethis · 27/06/2021 18:02

None and all my kids have had it and know loads of kids who have had it.
I had long COVID that lasted for about 5 months post infection but totally fine now!

icklekid · 27/06/2021 18:05

I think the problem is whilst children might not currently common badly with long covid as it mutates no way of knowing if future variants will impact children badly...

Wellbythebloodyhell · 27/06/2021 18:05

I dont know any dc who have had covid at all never mind long covid

TheSquigglething · 27/06/2021 18:05

None.

I know several who have had post viral fatigue syndromes pre-2019. But none who have developed it since covid.

cookiecreampie · 27/06/2021 18:06

My DS had it, he had Kawasaki disease from it, but recovered in about 3 weeks.

Tatum1234 · 27/06/2021 18:08

Luckily none.

PassTheVinoTinto · 27/06/2021 18:09

None.

I know of one child who tested positive for Covid, they were poorly for a few days, but minor symptoms like a cold and very achy. They bounce back and no long term effects.

Baileysforchristmas · 27/06/2021 18:11

Thanks to everyone who’s replied, very interesting.

Technically I don't "know" anyone who had covid.
People like DS's a-level math teacher had covid. She told us at (Zoom) parent eve that's how well I "know" anyone who has had covid. Even at that degree of acquaintance no kids. Youngest was age 19 when he got it.

Long covid people I have ever met: I heard thru grapevine that my step-nephew's cousin (age 20 now, i met him once 3 yrs ago) had long covid. he May be 100% recovered now.

DD knew some people in her Uni halls who had covid -- not heard her mention any LC among them. DS at residential college knows young people (other residents, big outbreak) who had covid - one person recovered slowly, apparently.

Wherediditgo · 27/06/2021 18:12

I don’t know any children that have had Covid at all, let alone long Covid.

Horehound · 27/06/2021 18:13

Is there a test for "long covid"?

Choconuttolata · 27/06/2021 18:14

I know many people who have had Covid.

I haven't met any children with long Covid nor do I know of any among my children's friendship groups across three different large intake schools.

My 3 children had Covid and were all fine despite varying symptoms, they were recovered within a week.

DH was in hospital and has long Covid. I was not hospitalised and have long Covid. I also know two other people with long Covid. My DM had Covid and was fine. My DB had it and was fine. My GMIL died. None of us were infected by the Delta variant.

Children can get long Covid, but it is more common in adults as is more serious illness.

I also had glandular fever and CFS when I was younger and it massively impacted my education. My sympathy is with any child, young person or family dealing with any post-viral syndrome. It must be very hard and scary, especially because it is so difficult to get medical professionals to listen to you and so much is unknown.

Brokenrecord3006 · 27/06/2021 18:18

I don't know a single person who has had covid, and I've not heard anything about long-covid in children in the area where I live.

Not writing it off, it sounds horrendous. But I don't know anyone personally.

Jabbinell · 27/06/2021 18:20
