Just wondering how many people on here have experience of children with long Covid?

OP posts:
NothingIsWrong · 27/06/2021 17:12

None. The only kids I know who've had it were all asyptomatic

LegArmpits · 27/06/2021 17:13

None. I work in a big primary school too.

GalacticDragonfly · 27/06/2021 17:13

I know two who were hospitalised with unexplained symptoms, which doctors thought may be a post-viral Covid response. Both tested positive for covid antibodies. Both seem to have fully recovered now, but in each case it was a very scary experience for the child and their family.
No way of knowing for sure whether Covid was responsible, but now I’m more cautious than some people are about whether we should allow it to run rampant through schools once the adults are all vaccinated.

kowari · 27/06/2021 17:14

None. I don't know any who have had positive tests either. I assume DS had it when I did in early March but no test (I was positive for antibodies).

ineedaholidaynow · 27/06/2021 17:14

Our neighbour’s child. Has only just started going back to school this term for a few hours at a time, so has pretty much been out of school since lockdown 1. Fit healthy child before this.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 27/06/2021 17:18

I know maybe about 10 kids who have had covid and are fine, they wouldn't have known at all without the regular testing.

One child I know wasn't aware they had covid and it was only discovered when they had real problems with their toes and feet and are still struggling 4 months later.

Sorryusernamealreadyexists · 27/06/2021 17:18

I don’t know a single person who’s even had COVID, let alone long COVID.

Hallyup6 · 27/06/2021 17:19

I know of plenty of children who've had covid (I've had six letters from school this week as they tell us about every case) but know of nobody that's suffered for longer than I'd expect.

SleepyMathematician · 27/06/2021 17:19

I know one, a friend’s daughter who was previously very fit and active. She’s almost back to normal a year on but it’s been a rough ride for her with a lot of time off school, even by the standards of the last year.
I know a few other children who have had it as I tutor but all of them have recovered well.

Pinuporc · 27/06/2021 17:19

I know about 25 people who have tested positive for covid, (2 sadly passed away). Of the remaining ones 3 have had long covid but they were all adults.

Covidworries · 27/06/2021 17:22

I hate these kind of Threads. They really feel like they aim to diminish people experiences as I don't personally know anyone so therefore it cant be a real problem.
Long covid is real and the fact that most people responding haven't been directly impacted themselves or in their group doesn't take away from the suffering of those who have been impacted.

It is still far to early to know for sure if the risk of long covid will be minor risk or more significant a risk. In the meantime it makes sense to proceed with caution and monitor the situation.

4PawsGood · 27/06/2021 17:22

I know of maybe five children who’ve had it, one with long covid, but nearly better now seven months on.

LyndaSnellsSniff · 27/06/2021 17:26

I know at least 5 children who have had Covid (my own included). Of them the only long term thing was hair loss. The child lost a chunk of hair about 6 months after testing positive. His mum also tested positive and has suffered hair loss ever since.

But of course, this may not even be Covid-related.

powershowerforanhour · 27/06/2021 17:28

None. My best friend in school was smitten for months with glandular fever as a young teenager- off school for weeks and weeks and feeling crap and bone tired for about half a year thereafter, but nobody really gives much of a toss about that.

Jaz12 · 27/06/2021 17:29

I have a child still unwell almost 4 weeks later. Still not returned to school. Previously very healthy and athletic, no underlying issues. Confirmed delta variant.

Rillington · 27/06/2021 17:30

None. I don't know any adults with it either.

idontlikealdi · 27/06/2021 17:30

None

PerhapsCarriageGreen · 27/06/2021 17:32

A boy in DDs class has it (since he tested positive before Christmas). He is still not back at school full time and may repeat the year. He was super fit before and has no underlying issues.

blissfulllife · 27/06/2021 17:33

Daughter goes to a specialist school unit and it's also a hospital school. Where students who can't attend mainstream due to medical issues and also sends tutors into hospitals or to child's home where able. There's 3 children with long Covid on the register

bellsbuss · 27/06/2021 17:34

I know only one person with it , a friend caught Covid last year March and is still struggling. Even small everyday tasks exhaust her, everyone else I know who has caught it said if it wasn't for loss of taste they wouldn't have known they had it. With the children I know who have caught Covid the parents have only known because one of them had caught it so tested their children and they had no symptoms bar one child who had a mild cold.

EcoCustard · 27/06/2021 17:35

None. Know a few that tested positive but with no more symptoms than a cold at most. I know of no adults either.

Hornbill123456789 · 27/06/2021 17:36

Family member aged 10 - suddenly developed a high temperature despite being in lockdown, and had not socialised for a few weeks.

However - some weeks previously, before lockdown - there was a case in her class and she was asked to self isolate.

It was treated as a PIMS type reaction - but the cannula/hospital/possible leukaemia diagnosis was a horrible thing to go through.

ineedaholidaynow · 27/06/2021 17:36

I also know an adult with long COVID, been practically housebound for over 6 months. Did have some underlying health issues, but nothing on this scale.

BojackHorsewoman · 27/06/2021 17:37

None

Hornbill123456789 · 27/06/2021 17:42

Adult wise - I know through a friend of a shopkeeper that died. I know of DP’s work colleague in intensive care with Covid and now has long Covid. I know a police officer who caught it working and his wife was in hospital with blood clot on lung having caught Covid from him. Their vulnerable child caught it and was fine. I know 2 mid-thirty year olds who were hospitalised with Covid. They are now fine.
