Palpitations after the Pfizer vaccination

WallabyLullaby · 24/06/2021 07:38

I had the first Pfizer jab around a month ago and have been getting palpitations a lot since then. I'm under a fair bit of stress atm but have been for ages and palpitations aren't normal for me.

Has anyone else had this?

Yes I have them too. Trying to stay hydrated and stay off booze and caffeine but I still have them. I noticed them starting three weeks ago after the first jab, I'm due my second jab in two weeks and dreading it.

Ginandfantalemon · 24/06/2021 11:58

Yip me. Mines started four days after first Pfizer. Had a couple of ECGs and blood tests. All fine but waiting on a 24 monitor from hospital. Had my second jab a week ago (didn't know whether to take it or not but hospital said that even if I had had my 24 monitor test the results would not be available for 12 weeks due to backlog, so went for it as it would have defeated the purpose of first jab, and also didn't want AZ as an alternative). Still getting palpitations everyday. It's horrid, doctors dont think its connected but I'm not convinced. I am also a very anxious person and I am also getting terrible indigestion symptoms now so that may be related. Just funny how I never had them before the 1st jab. I had a panic attack when I went for my second jab and the nurse said my pulse was really high. I have been taking Gaviscon advance it has been helping, so maybe rather than coming from the heart, the Pfizer is creating acid in our gut. Just a thought.

cls123 · 24/06/2021 12:05

Please speak to GP ASAP, the CDC in USA have notified of a probable rare causal relationship between pfizer/moderna vaccines and post jab pericarditis/myocarditis...and palpitations are potentially a symptom. Increased incidence in younger males and post second jab. For some reason it's yet to be widely publicised here but the same initial media silence was the same with the AZ clot risk, which is equally rare but likewise important to monitor in younger age groups, its really important to report unusual symptoms as it allows proper targeting of vaccine types.

Ginandfantalemon · 24/06/2021 12:32

I agree with @cls123, get it checked with GP. I did, so it slightly put my mind at rest. I think if it is caused by a problem to the heart, you would also be experiencing other symptoms too along with the palpitations. My doctor wanted to check if I had any chest pain, tiredness, breathlessness, or weakness especially when climbing stairs etc. I didn't have any of these. But an ECG or blood test would rule anything serious out, I'm sure, so it's wise to get it checked.

nellly · 24/06/2021 12:42

Yes I'm pregnant and had palpitations for 12 hours after first Pfizer, called hospital who said to pop in just to get checked over, they didn't seem concerned and said it was most likely from anxiety/stress about vaccination, I'm fine and baby is fine and has been checked with a scan.

Needingsupportplease · 24/06/2021 13:20

Theyre linking this to inflammation of the heart after moderna and pfizer go get checked

WallabyLullaby · 24/06/2021 17:41

Thank you for the replies.

I have seen the news reports, I'm a woman and this was the first vaccine and it seems to be young men with their second vaccine mainly affected but it is worrying that it could be related.

I've had some tightness in my chest as well so I spoke to the gp this afternoon who has referred me to be checked tomorrow.

WuhanClanAintNothingToFuckWith · 24/06/2021 17:48

I had this. Was due to anxiety, stress, lack of sleep, dehydration, generally not be kind to myself and reading scaremongering anti-vaccine stuff! Was after first Pfizer, but fine after the second 🙂

WallabyLullaby · 24/06/2021 18:16

@NaughtyPrudence are you still going to have your 2nd jab? I haven't felt right since the first, it's put me off a bit!

OP posts:
WallabyLullaby · 24/06/2021 18:17

@Ginandfantalemon I had so much indigestion after as well, I ended up taking probiotics and lots of rennies, had no idea that could be caused by a vaccine.

OP posts:
WallabyLullaby · 24/06/2021 18:20

@WuhanClanAintNothingToFuckWith I'm hoping it's nothing too, I've never had palpitations before this so hopefully they'll stop soon.

OP posts:
WuhanClanAintNothingToFuckWith · 24/06/2021 18:26

I honestly do know how scared you feel, I was too. But I was fine and I’m not dead. It’s all the anti-vaccine stuff that’s everywhere. Don’t worry 🙂

WuhanClanAintNothingToFuckWith · 24/06/2021 18:29

It’s an anxiety induced panic attack 🙂

WallabyLullaby · 24/06/2021 18:43

Did anyone else get referred to a hospital for assessment for this by the gp? I'm wondering how long the checks will take as DH taking time off work to look after dc for me to go.

OP posts:
WuhanClanAintNothingToFuckWith · 24/06/2021 19:32

There will be a massive backlog for precautionary checks at UK hospitals, because of anti-vaxers just scaremongering on our internet.

@cls123

WHY would you come on a thread like this telling someone who is having an understandable panic attack this crap!? Are u evil? What’s your agenda exactly?

The US will understandable want to use their own Moderna vaccines, that are produced and mass manufactured within their own states and economy. For maximum financial benefits. Why buy Pfizer or AZ off other countries who are fighting for vaccines when they can benefit multiple times (employment, incomes, tax revenue, corporation revenues - massive economic multipliers) from simply using their OWN vaccine. Thus, there is then shortage of Moderna - and the demand and price of Moderna goes up for vaccine exports.

Very simple explanations for the anxiety and for the scaremongering.

Don’t listen to the idiots, especially when your not feeling well. Look after yourself.

WallabyLullaby · 24/06/2021 20:01

@WuhanClanAintNothingToFuckWith to clarify, I'm not having a panic attack.

I've been having palpitations, chest tightness etc for several weeks. I've not had palpitations ever before this last month and was not worried about getting the vaccine beforehand.

I'm normally fit and healthy. I don't suffer from anxiety and have been mainly hoping the symptoms would go away before deciding I should get checked out and starting a mumsnet thread to see if anyone had had the same thing.

OP posts:
TheSquigglething · 24/06/2021 20:47

It is important that anyone who experiences new onset of symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath or feelings of having a fast-beating, fluttering, or pounding heart seeks medical attention.

This is from the government yellow card reporting system site. I'm sure you'll be fine, OP, but best get this checked.

WuhanClanAintNothingToFuckWith · 24/06/2021 20:52

@WallabyLullaby

Ok, hope you’re feeling better soon and your checks reassure you tomorrow. Just that chest tightness and palpitations CAN also be anxiety induced. Sometimes you don’t even realise you are even anxious, but physical symptoms do occur from anxiety. It’s weird.

as an ex health professional (who is well aware of the symptms of panic attacks)I have to pull you up on your reply. If you re-read my post you will find i have used the word RARE twice . Vaccines are our only way out of this situation but that does NOT mean we should blithely ignore people reporting unusual events post jab, that is NOT good medicine! if you actually think before you post and insult people you may actually choose to go and read the research and the information that is posted on the CDC's own website ,as copy and pasted below. "Since April 2021, increased cases of myocarditis and pericarditis have been reported in the United States after mRNA COVID-19 vaccination (Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna), particularly in adolescents and young adults. There has not been a similar reporting pattern observed after receipt of the Janssen COVID-19 Vaccine (Johnson & Johnson). In most cases, patients who presented for medical care have responded well to medications and rest and had prompt improvement of symptoms. Reported cases have occurred predominantly in male adolescents and young adults 16 years of age and older. Onset was typically within several days after mRNA COVID-19 vaccination, and cases have occurred more often after the second dose than the first dose. CDC and its partners are investigating these reports of myocarditis and pericarditis following mRNA COVID-19 vaccination. CDC continues to recommend COVID-19 vaccination for everyone 12 years of age and older given the risk of COVID-19 illness and related, possibly severe complications, such as long-term health problems, hospitalization, and even death." "Consider myocarditis and pericarditis in adolescents or young adults with acute chest pain, shortness of breath, or palpitations. In this younger population, coronary events are less likely to be a source of these symptoms." Please think before you post.It is frankly insulting to say everything is down to an OP's mental health.
HeyDugeesCakeBadge · 25/06/2021 14:09

Wuhan you are being irresponsible and unkind. PP were just advising to get checked out because they are rare symptoms of an adverse reaction. It is really irresponsible to diagnose an anxiety attack rather than going to GP and blaming anti vaxxers for symptoms that the manufacturers and doctors have said are rare side effects. What is your agenda?

Raindancer411 · 26/06/2021 07:31

I have suffered with palpitations for 7 years on and off since having my first child. I get them occasionally but noticed an up tick in it after my vaccine. I just thought it was my anxiety but now debating whether to speak to Dr about the second up and coming jab. Was reassuring to see it didn't happen with the second for you @WuhanClanAintNothingToFuckWith (think it was you, sorry if I got it wrong)

Globetrotter123 · 26/06/2021 08:34

I’ve had regular palpitations since the AZ jab. Ended up in a&e with atrial fib. Had ro wait months to see cardio so ended up having to go private. Gutted to hear same happening with pfizer.

Globetrotter123 · 26/06/2021 08:38

Meant to say also I did have 2nd jab - they’re still here but it didn’t make it worse overall. GP and a&e wouldn’t admit connection but cardio did say could have been caused by jab.

Raindancer411 · 26/06/2021 08:47

Great, I worry about mine best of times as it is

Raindancer411 · 26/06/2021 08:48

@Globetrotter123 Has cardiologist said if it will sort itself out in time?
