GP Dr Rosemary Leonard

TV doctor Dr Rosemary Leonard told BBC Breakfast it was “ridiculous” that whole classes – and even year groups – are being sent home to self-isolate when one child tests positive for Covid.

She said it was unfair on children, adding: “It’s not prioritising them or their education.

We've got to stop being scared... unnecessarily, disproportionately scared of Covid......"

“It’s as if nobody is caring… and looking at this in a balanced way"

I agree 100% with this.

@Thewiseoneincognito

Sorry but she’s only a GP, her opinion means zilch she’s been brought on to stir up the masses which it appears has worked- y’all be agreeing with her like she’s the Pope. Her opinions and ideas alleviate a tricky situation for working parents but isn’t actually sound advice in the control of infection during a pandemic. Has Marsha been on yet? 👀
Ah you follow me don’t you I forgot that 😂

Keep reading if it makes you happy weird though

We stalk eachother it would seem! 😆

I saw @TheKeatingFive was on so I knew you’d be bound to follow, I’d started replying as you replied and noticed as soon as I’d posted 😁🕊

MarshaBradyo · 23/06/2021 16:32

Whatever floats your boat Hmm

Weird to me. I’ll just avoid you as it’s off to stalk like you are.

TheKeatingFive · 23/06/2021 16:33

Marsha is one of my favourite posters, but she is much nicer than me, so I have no idea why you always associate us with each other. I’m very flattered though.

Unless everyone stops isolating then schools should be no different. It’s either safe for all so everyone stops and no more WFH or we try and keep cases low so it doesn’t mutate and limits long covid and worse.

CaptainWentworth · 23/06/2021 16:41

On the GPs not seeing patients point- DH is a GP and is absolutely fed up to the back teeth of environment-polluting PPE (particularly the pointless plastic aprons) and having to deal with as much as possible over the phone. They do see patients face to face where necessary, particularly ill children, but they can’t go back to normal until the guidance from NHS England changes. Believe me he wants to, as all this is making his job harder not easier!

everybodysang · 23/06/2021 16:42

@AnyFucker

16,000+ cases today. ICU ventilated patients up to April levels. Yup, no masks has worked sooooo well

Theoretically we all (with vanishingly few exemptions) have been wearing masks. Ergo, masks do not work.

but not in schools, and it does seem that's where the cases are coming from?
mumsneedwine · 23/06/2021 16:48

Yup. Young people are the majority of cases (& some of them are getting sick enough to need ventilation).
Masks were worn in schools = low cases. Masks came off in schools = cases rose. Not hard to see that they were working. It's an airborne virus. It travels in the air. Which travels into our noses and mouths. Stop it getting into our noses snd mouths and you stop the disease. I have never understood why this is hard to understand 🤷‍♀️.

WokeGroaker · 23/06/2021 16:53

Not sure what I think tbh but I know that in France, it used to be the case and maybe still is that a class/year would only have to isolate if there were 3 or more cases, not just one. Again, I don't know what I make of that as France had a huge 2nd wave. As ever, scientists and experts give differing advice and Governments decide based on their politics.

mumsneedwine · 23/06/2021 16:54

And kids are only having to isolate as more of their classmates are testing positive. No positive case, no isolation. So wear a mask. It's v simple.

mumsneedwine · 23/06/2021 16:54

@WokeGroaker France v sensibly did part time schooling, increased ventilation by knocking down internal walls and wore masks.

"Has Marsha been on yet?"

What a weird question. This is a discussion board. People will have different opinions. Why would anyone find it necessary to make remarks about certain posters who tend towards one view?

Some posters appear on many threads as is their right. Others post more rarely. We're all different.

Thewiseoneincognito · 23/06/2021 17:13

@amicissimma you’re right, I’m sorry 🕊 I just knew they’d be around at some stage and it just happened they were right above my post. I always read their views with interest.

As for your point about making remarks on certain posters who tend towards one view, if you search said persons posts about me then you would perhaps hesitate to make that comment and you would understand the dynamic of our ‘banter’ a little better 😊

RaspberryCoulis · 23/06/2021 17:22

She is SPOT ON.

No more testing unless you have symptoms, no isolating whole classes. Madness.

toocold54 · 23/06/2021 17:27

Masks were worn in schools = low cases. Masks came off in schools = cases rose. Not hard to see that they were working. It's an airborne virus.

I agree.
I really don’t want them to bring back masks in class so I think more testing should be offered/more accurate ones as it seems to be mainly asymptomatic children spreading it.

mumsneedwine · 23/06/2021 17:32

@toocold54 testing is useless. I have done at least 4 LFT tests a week since Jan. Never had a positive. Yet I have antibodies due to being positive at some stage (not from vaccine). So I've been at school, teaching 180 kids a day while spewing out covid. Except I wore a mask, so not one of my students got infected.

toocold54 · 23/06/2021 17:39

@mumsneedwine that’s why I think more accurate testing needs to be done like the PCR ones. We’ve got a massive number of people off this week but only a few had symptoms or a positive LFT so either they’re not doing it properly or the LFT are not picking it up properly which seems pointless.

Rosegoldfan · 23/06/2021 17:47

@mumsneedwine

Wonder if she's seeing patients face to face. Or if it's just school staff who can be in unventilated rooms with infectious students.
Absolutely this.

When GPs get back to normal maybe her opinion will be valid.

CarrieBlue · 23/06/2021 17:55

All of this.

Lightswitchesoffatnight · 23/06/2021 17:56

What she's said is valid but GPs should also come out of hiding.

OP posts:
mumsneedwine · 23/06/2021 17:59

@toocold54 accurate testing would be the answer. But that will cost money so won't happen. V sad. Meanwhile we will do our LFTs and all know they are not doing what they should. I was so surprised to find out I'd had COVID as haven't even had a sniffle.

Barbie222 · 23/06/2021 18:36

I'd quite like to be able to see my GP and dentist - as I understand it, they've all been double vaccinated for some time, and last I checked, there weren't 29 other people sitting less than 2m away from us during a face to face appointment. Why aren't they back to normal?

MarshaBradyo · 23/06/2021 18:57

We had a Saturday morning appointment same day recently, maybe a triage thing but I was surprised

Dentist all dc done too (tg)
