So Matt Hancock confirmed they are looking at scrapping the quarantine if you've been double jabbed this morning and this afternoon Boris basically says don't get your hopes up for travel. Why the conflicting advice and news all the time?? I just don't get it.

@waterlane the plan long term is there is no plan as such. The government needs to be very careful about promising things to the public when it comes to Covid, they don’t have a crystal ball and the virus will do whatever it wants to do. We can only play it by ear.

Businesses need to be able to adapt to the fluidity of restrictions as do the people, it’s going to be a tricky transition but if we are to preserve a sense of normalcy then it’s going to be crucial. There’s no point thinking we can overcome this by simply wanting to carry on as normal, we have to be prepared to compromise as and when needed.

Hmmm yes Germany’s death rate doesn’t tally with the low number of cases...

Absolutely agree we can't carry on as normal but for example why can't you travel now if double jabbed? Surely that is safer than allowing non vaccinated people to travel to amber and green if they choose

I've given up and contacted the campsite in France, the uncertainty and worry is too much - I can't cope with another 2 months of this! I feel very relieved although no doubt I'll be a bit annoyed with myself if all restrictions fall away come August.

I get this, but it really makes life difficult for anyone who isn't prepared to just stay at home for the next year or more until all this shit has finally resolved.

What's so frustrating is that at the moment, Covid cases are MUCH higher in many areas of the UK than they are in a lot of holiday destinations and yet we're all being sold this lie that the best thing we can do is holiday in the UK.

The reality is Covid doesn’t care if you’re not prepared to stay at home, there are places you can visit now, make the most of the opportunity whilst you can.

Looking at some of the tourist destinations in the UK that are experiencing Covid surges it’s safe to say it’s probably not a good idea for any of us to travel domestically as well as internationally right now.

There will be very few places willing to accept tourists from here in the coming weeks if the Delta continues on its trajectory, we are a high risk country. Already Malta is trying to dissuade tourists by imposing quarantine measures on anyone not double vaxxed.

fucketyfuckwit · 25/06/2021 22:58

Germany have only carried out a total of 63 million tests with a population of 84m.

The UK have carried out 207 million tests on a population of only 68m.

It's madness that we are seen as the sick ones.

Many more deaths in Germany over past few weeks.

Sorry - but I have no intention of doing this. Our other country allows us to visit with one PCR test before travel. By the end of August, when we're due to return, hopefully amber list returnees won't have to endure the current list of restrictions, so if that's the case we will be going. I'm tired of being dictated to by hypocrites who aren't following the data, who aren't being transparent and who make rules that make no sense. I've followed the rules this past 15 months and I'm done.

Oh really? Sorry to hear that. Do you know why they have been cancelled? I am hoping to book a trip to the Balearics for early July but am holding off cos I wonder if Spain will do a Malta and say people from the U.K. have to be fully vaccinated and I don't have my second jab for another few weeks. Argh.
EasterIssland · 26/06/2021 10:34

Not a desirable destination I guess I’m not from the touristic places so I guess not that many people want to go there on holidays hence they’re cancelling it.
