So Matt Hancock confirmed they are looking at scrapping the quarantine if you've been double jabbed this morning and this afternoon Boris basically says don't get your hopes up for travel. Why the conflicting advice and news all the time?? I just don't get it.

I believe they’re lateral

Ok, thanks. I wonder what they will cost....?

EasterIssland · 23/06/2021 20:46

Sorry if I understand ok

Travel you still have to do the day 2 and 8 tests. No more.

Contact lateral flow tests similar to the ones you can take now.

And the self isolation for both cancelled if double vaccinated.
I think that’s what I’ve read it was

mrsrobin · 23/06/2021 20:47

I can't believe the NHS will foot the bill for a test everyday. Anyway, if they do that, surely they will have to foot the bill for the test you have to have when you return from Green also?

mrsrobin · 23/06/2021 20:48

Actually, the Green test is PCR, if Amber is a load of Lateral Flows surely Green should be the same?
What a mess!

userchange8945 · 23/06/2021 20:52

The 28th is the first major reassessment of the traffic light system (the system as a whole, not just what countries are what colour) it may be the testing requirements are completely changed, obviously lots of "leaked" talks of double vaxxers not getting tested etc. I really wouldn't over think the testing requirements until right before you go as it's constantly changing, I'm due to go end of August, I'm not reading into anything at this stage!

waterlane · 23/06/2021 20:52

It's also worth looking at our testing rate compared to other European countries

We already have billions of pounds worth of useless LFTs.

The FDA in the USA have Class 1 recalled all of them within the USA as their lack of ability to pick up many positive cases is a danger to human health.

Yet the UK government is trying to use them in situations which the MHRA has not approved.

In a sense the system does work as 0.4% of people returning from Amber countries tested positive and 0 cases from green countries but perhaps that demonstrates that they've been over cautious?!

Boris Johnson says there is a "real opportunity" to open up foreign travel for those who have had two doses of a coronavirus vaccine.

roses2 · 24/06/2021 15:17

When is this due to be announced? It's unusual for there to be no "breaking news" on the Daily Mail if there is an announcement coming in a few hours.

userchange8945 · 24/06/2021 15:19

@roses2 there's a traffic light list update later today, no set time, previous were around 4 and 5pm although BBC is saying could be a bit later tonight.

I'm thinking best bet is to try to get second jab as soon as possible! I don't think the other EU countries will join France and Germany with quarantine for Brits because they need the tourism and if we've been double jabbed and are doing tests as well, it seems OTT

I think Macron has just put the final nail in the coffin for our French holiday in France!! 😭😭😭

That's what he said about Brexit. Sausage anyone?

WhiskeryWoman · 24/06/2021 17:30

How so? Have I missed something? I can’t see anything new since the 9th June update.

Chailatteplease · 24/06/2021 17:36

I’ve been looking for the update too 🤷🏼‍♀️

Squidthing · 24/06/2021 17:45

Re France I'm clinging on to hope as Macron in the quote I've seen mentions adopting a coordinated approach on third countries and also recognition of vaccines. I'm wondering if he's trying to support Macron but also not alienate his own tourism industry which has traditionally relied heavily on UK tourism.

That said, we've unexpectedly been offered a refund from one of the campsites we are booked into (postponed from last year when no refund offered) if we cancel by end of the month so maybe they've given up hope on us to. I now feel in more of a quandary about cancelling than before when I'd already written the funds off.

Squidthing · 24/06/2021 17:46

Trying to support Merkel that should say..

eyeoresancerre · 24/06/2021 17:49

I'm going to sound stupid here but if parents are double jabbed but children aren't vaccinated - can the children still come on holiday?

Squidthing · 24/06/2021 17:52

I think the suggestion is children exempt if travelling with double jabbed adults. As said above, all irrelevant if the other country doesn't want us.

The irony being some children are the vectors more often than not. Makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
eyeoresancerre · 24/06/2021 18:14

You're right Squid. I suppose I just worry that come September when the schools go back will children have more time at home e.g Remote Learning due to bubbles bursting quite early on if children go abroad and mix in big communal hotels. I really don't know how I feel about it all. Be great to have a holiday though but I just don't know if I'm being a twat even considering it with the potential ramifications later down the line.

Johnson did that, first with Brexit (now a 3rd country) then with failing to limit the spread of Delta to the UK.

Portugal is experiencing increases in Delta and has put in extra restrictions, following UK tourists going there.

Uk had 16,000 new cases of CV today, does anyone really think the EU wants us there? given they have relatively low vaccination rates, sure they may like the tourism but will count for nothing if they had to endure another LD.
