Why is there still talk of further lockdowns?

I don’t understand this. Yes cases are rising but deaths etc are staying low. We are also flying vaccine programme.

What is going on?

Who is talking of this exactly?

Don’t believe it will happen anyway.

secretllama · 20/06/2021 21:13

Not sure but they can get fucked quite frankly.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 20/06/2021 21:13

Compliance for another lockdown won't be high enough. Would be pointless.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 20/06/2021 21:15

Problem is they can enforce it by closing pubs, gyms, shops, schools etc. That pretty quickly deals with the compliance issue.

rosie39forever · 20/06/2021 21:15

Of course there won’t be another lockdown Boris has said so and we know he’s a man of his word.🤔

It really doesn't. People will just meet up in houses instead.
RoseRedRoseBlue · 20/06/2021 21:20

Wax of course, but it’s still a pretty effective way of forcing compliance. I rarely visit others homes as I have very little family, but would be massively impacted by gyms etc closing.

The risk is we already have a variant with significant amounts of vaccine escape. The UK is the perfect breeding ground for that mutation - most countries didn't go with the long period between jabs so a mutation that can still infect despite one jab will do well here.

And if that mutation mutates again (and again, this is a virus that has already shown a tendency to mutate rapidly) to increase the amount of vaccine escape and affect those with two jabs, we're all screwed world-wide. Like, it would not be too drastic to completely cut off the UK's ability to travel to all other nations including for food import/export if that happened, like France threatened to with the Kent variant.

Every time the virus infects one more person there is the risk of that mutation. So it is in the UK's interests to keep infections low.

Flowerlane · 20/06/2021 21:33

Compliance will be very low if another lockdown happened. If everything closed people would just meet in houses/parks etc. More businesses would close their doors for good if they had to close again as well.

It would be absolutely crazy to have another lockdown. There really is no need. We need to get on with our lives.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 20/06/2021 21:50

I wonder if it would be low compliance if deaths started to rise significantly?

NannyAndJohn · 20/06/2021 21:59

The Delta effect is significantly outweighing the vaccine effect.

We currently need 87% fully vaccinated for herd immunity, else cases (and hence hospitalisations, and hence deaths) will continue to rise.

We're only half way there, and that's not taking into account boosters or potential new Variants.

I wouldn't comply again under any circumstances. Obviously if everything shut I couldn't go, but absolutely nothing will stop me from going into my family and friends houses again.
RoseRedRoseBlue · 20/06/2021 22:10

And I don’t blame you one bit.

Imnothereforthedrama · 20/06/2021 22:35

Talk of further lockdown only on here ,
They can if they want but I for one will carry on seeing my family no matter what happens.

Whitty explained it all at the press conference, you could rewatch it?

That will only happen if the vaccine doesn’t work , I’m not lockdown for those that refuse the vaccine.
Pinchoftums · 20/06/2021 22:42

The problem will be with people like me who have been very compliant, had covid was very ill and know it is a fucker so got double vaccinated. Once everyone who can is vaccinated apart from the fee that can't I will struggle to give a fuck about the idiots that won't get vaccinated. I know this unfair on those that genuinely can't but it can't be stoped forever.

beela · 20/06/2021 22:47

Ditto. I have followed the rules up until now, but I absolutely won't be stopping my (primary aged) dc from seeing their friends again.

Thanks for calling me an idiot Confused FWIW I don't expect you or anyone else to lockdown for me

Even if there was variant that badly affected children? I doubt it.

People love to say 'I won;t do this' 'I'll never do that' but unless you are really stupid, like everyone else you will respond to the situation you find yourself in.

leafygarden42 · 21/06/2021 07:02

@BonnieDundee

If you're not having a vaccine for medical reasons - fair enough. I don't think they meant that.

I hope you don't end up hospitalised with Covid though or any of your close relatives, as that is the risk you're running by not being vaccinated.

And if people think that it is idiotic to remain unvaccinated, they are perfectly within their rights to say that.

Roselilly36 · 21/06/2021 07:02

Getting beyond a joke now, jabs the way out? What a load of rubbish.
