Sat outside the vaccination centre.. I can’t go in

I don’t even know why I’m posting on
here.

I’ve been on the phone to 111 and to an NHS mental health support team, but I may as well have not bothered.

I’m sat outside the vaccination centre to get my second AZ and I just cannot go in.
I’ve never felt fear / panic like I am feeling right now. I’m so frightened about getting a blood clot.

I’m so desperate to be fully vaccinated but I’m absolutely petrified to have my second dose.
I feel like walking in there is a death sentence, I equally feel staying out here to catch Covid, is a death sentence.

There’s been such a buzz at work recently amongst colleagues getting their vaccines (we’re all under 40) but all I feed is dread and fear.

I can’t live my life like this. I just can’t.

It’s a terrible fucking situation to be in and I’m not happy with either option I face.
I just don’t know what to do anymore :(

Please don't worry. Your chance of getting a blood clot from the AZ is miniscule. I've had both my doses and I'm far from the healthiest of people, and I was fine.

Louby08 · 16/06/2021 18:14

@Movealongmovealong

Stop focussing on guess work. No one can tell you the answers while you sit in isolation outside . !

Put your LOGICAL head on and go and talk to the people with the FACTS - not the nonsense from social media.

You don't have to go in for the jab.
No one will hold you down.
You do need the true facts though in order to make an informed decision. Those facts are in the centre. Not the car park.

I can’t go inside. 😭

I know there is nothing they can do. They can tell me the facts and then leave me the make the decision. I can’t do that.

I just wish they could make me unconscious, give me the vaccine and wake me up when 4 weeks has passed.

I can’t get through 4 weeks of worrying about blood clots, I just can’t.

I’ve lied to all of my colleagues that I’ve had my second jab because I’m so angry and annoyed with myself that I can’t just go in and have the fucking jab 😭

I don't want long Covid thanks. I know somebody with it and it's awful

That's how I dealt with it when I had a wobble. I know a fit 21 year old who has just been really quite poorly, don't fancy my own chances !

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/06/2021 18:15

How did you get through the previous week's? I don't think anyone has got ill after the second one have they? Go and talk to the professionals, ask them.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/06/2021 18:16

**weeks

sleepwouldbenice · 16/06/2021 18:16

Rates are increasing OP. I am double vaxxers but it still makes me gulp
Please go in

Louby08 · 16/06/2021 18:17

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor

Yes. They have.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/06/2021 18:18

Then I'd want to know the percentage and how that compares to people getting on a plane for a long haul flight.

PawsQueen · 16/06/2021 18:20

You can do it. You don't have to but courage is literally fear holding on a minute longer
So if you want to get it done, you only need to be brave enough to go in. Nobody will force you, you can go in and leave again. Or go in and speak to them, or write it down

HeronLanyon · 16/06/2021 18:21

Go on op - sounds as though by not going in you are in just as much worry (and better reason to worried about not being fully vaccinated). So if you look at it like a balance the balance is in favour of being fully vaccinated.
We’ll. all hold your hand via mn.

Tangled22 · 16/06/2021 18:21

@Louby08 Did you see the bit where I said the chance of blood clot after AZ jab is four people in a million?

As in, if a million people had the AZ jab, only four people get a blood clot. Those are incredibly low odds.

Wakeupin2022 · 16/06/2021 18:22

If you are under 40 and are now at 14 weeks post 1st dose, I am making the assumption you were in a priority group.

You are at risk of dying from Covid. The Delta variant is deadlier than previous variants. One dose of AZ does not protect you as well as 2 doses.

There is a risk from getting the AZ vaccine but it is very very miniscule.

By letting your anxiety control you, you could quite literally be killing yourself.

I'm sorry I know that it's a harsh way of putting it, and it's clear you do understand there is no real logic to your anxiety but it's there and it's real.

Perhaps you should go home today and take someone with you next time? They can support you?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/06/2021 18:22

So far, about 4.4 million people in the U.K. have received a second dose of the vaccine. Of those, about four cases of rare clotting were reported following the shot.

That’s about a one-in-a-million risk, according to Dr. Supriya Sharma, the chief medical adviser with Health Canada.

“But again, that’s the information we have from the U.K.”

1 in a million risk,think about that ,that's miniscule.

wildeverose · 16/06/2021 18:24

You're a lot more likely to get a blood
Clot from catching Covid, and being poorly from
It. If you're scared of clots - get the vaccine.

Louby08 · 16/06/2021 18:26

@wildeverose

I’m not scared of clots. I’m scared of death. 😔

AntiWorkBrigade · 16/06/2021 18:27

Have you been to your own gp and talked about this problem? I can’t imagine calling 111 would help much in this instance.

If you can’t even get into the centre and are in such a state you must consider what support can be accessed so you can at least make the decision: vaccination or no vaccination. Right now anxiety has you paralysed with indecision.

Please make an appointment and talk through your options. What you’re living with now sounds horrendous. Best of luck.

wildeverose · 16/06/2021 18:28

@Louby08
Ok, you're a lot more likely to die from
Covid than the jab - so get the jab.
Same either way. You're at much bigger risk of death unvaccinated.

godmum56 · 16/06/2021 18:29

you are more likely to be killed by a cow than get a bloodclot from the vaccine

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 16/06/2021 18:30

@ShinyGreenElephant

Blood clots are after the first dose (and incredibly rare) you will feel SO much better once its done. Just go and do it!
Just for clarity this isn't true

There have been reports of clots after the 2nd but also miniscule in number

Pumperthepumper · 16/06/2021 18:31

Ah OP, I’m sorry you’re having a hard time. Forget the jab for today and speak to your GP about your health anxiety, it’s a horrible thing to suffer from and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. You can book the jab when you feel more calm, absolutely no issues with that, it’s completely fine Flowers

WorraLiberty · 16/06/2021 18:33

You've probably missed your slot now anyway so you might as well go home.

See if you can do a bit more research into it then and re-book if you want to go ahead.

Spied · 16/06/2021 18:34

A blood clot doesn't mean certain death OP.
Ill admit I was scared when I went for my second AZ, certainly not jumping for joy like I was with my first, but rationally you know what you need to do.
Get your AZ. You are aware and know what to look for regarding the small chance you get one. Very small chance remember.

Abraxan · 16/06/2021 18:35

I’m not scared of clots. I’m scared of death. 😔

But the risk of death would be higher with covid than with the vaccine.
And both are very small risks for your average adult.

Fwiw I did have covid last year. I was rushed to hospital with a very real risk of heart attack or stroke. I am now taking medication for life and have ongoing health issues some 8 months later.

After the vaccine I had a bit of an achy arm.

I know which I preferred.

KihoBebiluPute · 16/06/2021 18:36
@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor

Yes. They have.
The numbers are minuscule, but there are a lot more people who got ill with Covid after either no vaccine only one vaccine. Nothing in life is risk free but choosing to do something that is known to be very risky (not getting the second jab) to avoid a much smaller risk, is not rational. Side effects from the AZ jab tend to be milder than whatever was experienced with the first jab too.
