Anyone had a cough and it not been Covid?

I've had a cough today and a sore throat, woke up this morning with it.
Sent off a PCR test this evening.
I'm sat here convincing myself that's what it is and that there is no other bug or illness going around that it could be 🤦🏻‍♀️
I know no one can tell me if it's Covid or not but I just wondered if anyone had a tickly cough as a symptom and done a PCR test that's come back negative?

Yep! Coughs have existed since time began

Hope you feel better soon

Notstrongandstable · 15/06/2021 20:32

Loads of times for various family members. For us it was a cold that came with a cough but you still had to test. Just did DD again yesterday!
I've lost count how many times we've tested for coughs 🤷

Bananarice · 15/06/2021 20:35

Yes, baby ds3 has one currently. It out welcomed its stay. He tested negative two and a half weeks ago. We took the bus this past weekend and fellow passengers just stared everytime he coughed. It was very weird atmosphere.

Poor baby just had a cough, I debated with myself if whether or not I should tell them about his negative test. But I decided against it.

woodfort · 15/06/2021 20:38

Grin Of course. I’ve had a cold every month or so since Covid despite lockdowns. My DC have near constant coughs and colds.

Scottishgirl85 · 15/06/2021 20:38

I would have thought almost everyone in the country has now tested for a cough at some point over the last 15 months, with most being negative Confused

dressesfloat · 15/06/2021 20:39

Yeah currently got a chest infection and on anti biotics . Covid negative .

This. The common cold hasn't buggered off.

Thanks for the replies 😊 I'm an anxious worrier so I'm not doing myself any favours 😂
Can colds be around in the summer then?

Me too! I've never had so many viral illnesses despite hardly interacting with people- and I really mean that. We very much followed the rules
SpnBaby1967 · 15/06/2021 20:42

Of course colds can be around in summer.

Hayfever can also cause a cough and a sore throat and pollen is extremely high at the moment. It might be covid, it might not.

MrsTerryPratchett · 15/06/2021 20:43

Can colds be around in the summer then?

Yes. Hence the expression 'summer cold'.

You poor love.

woodfort · 15/06/2021 20:45

Have you really never had a summer cold? I’m just towards the end of one now. I’d really like a few weeks before another one starts 🤞.

PCR positivity rate has increased a lot but is still little over 2%. So these are all people with symptoms like a cough, or positive lateral flows or close contacts who have COVID.. it’s still 49/50 of them don’t have it. The majority of coughs are just coughs.

Chewbecca · 15/06/2021 20:45

Yes, just getting over a rotten cold that was negative on my PCR.

Yup. Mine too. Covid feels like the cough that cried wolf.
PigsEnigma · 15/06/2021 20:46

Yep. DS has coughs with every cold he gets and he's had 5 since October. Tested each time and not covid. Most recent ones last week (thinking here we go again) DS had a cough, DH and I caught it, also not Covid. We live in a very low covid area and didn't expect it to be covid at any point.

lljkk · 15/06/2021 20:47

DH. 16yo DS brought home a cold, gave it to DS12, gave it to DH (who coughed a lot, 1st person to have a qualifying symptom). Me & DD never had a symptom. DH's PCR came back negative.

pourmeanotherglass · 15/06/2021 20:48

Ive had 2 or 3 coughs since Covid and tested negative each time.

Ohpulltheotherone · 15/06/2021 20:49

Um yeah of course, once or twice a year for about…40 years Grin

My little one had croup recently, it started out dry before it turned croupy. My other half has hay fever and he gets a cough with it.
I had a laryngitis once, it was hell.

Loads of other reasons for a cough than covid. It could be covid, chances are it’s not.

Randominternetbitch · 15/06/2021 20:49

Try having asthma and hayfever. I don’t speak anymore, I just cough mostly now. I’m practically Covid.

Chailatteplease · 15/06/2021 20:49

Yep, had lots of chesty coughs in the past year and tested negative every time.

YukoandHiro · 15/06/2021 20:51

My daughter has had four bad coughs since the autumn (she's asthmatic) and has never tested positive

Angel2702 · 15/06/2021 20:53

Yes wake up with cough and sore throat often when sleeping with fan on. Had colds when kids went back to school which always leaves me coughing for weeks. Always tested negative.

Oh dear OP, how have you got to whatever age you are without knowing that colds are always around and lived through the pandemic without knowing that there isnt a 100 % correlation between cough and covid Grin
Ragoo · 15/06/2021 21:17

I've been sick so much during the pandemic (pregnant and DS in nursery so alllll the bugs) tested every time and never had covid.

Had two false positive LFT confirmed as negative with a PCR.

Bobholll · 15/06/2021 22:07

My DD’s have had almost constant coughs & cold since March. It’s exhausting. DD2 started nursery & is catching everything under the sun & passing it on.. joy. Only been covid once.
