Anyone had a cough and it not been Covid?

I've had a cough today and a sore throat, woke up this morning with it.
Sent off a PCR test this evening.
I'm sat here convincing myself that's what it is and that there is no other bug or illness going around that it could be 🤦🏻‍♀️
I know no one can tell me if it's Covid or not but I just wondered if anyone had a tickly cough as a symptom and done a PCR test that's come back negative?

several times. it sucks

DH, DD and me have been horribly ill with the nastiest cough (confirmed by GP as upper respiratory tract infection) for 3 weeks now. DD has also had a temperature with it. But many PCR Covid tests each say not (and I’m vaccinated). I can’t believe we’ve been so ill and it’s not the C word. It feels like it may as well have been!

Chwaraeteg · 15/06/2021 22:37

Yep, had a horrendous dry, tickly cough last week and a temp of 39 for 3 blooming days! Spent most of that time in bed. Then had a few days of snottiness and sinus trouble. Tested negative for covid though.Bizzarrely, no one else in my household or wiser circle caught it 😐

Princesspickle777 · 15/06/2021 22:39

Yes, lots of times. Mainly because I’m asthmatic. When I get a cold I get a cough. It’s never been Covid so far.

unchienandalusia · 15/06/2021 22:57

Yup horrid cold and hacking cough / chest infection last week. Tested negative on day 1 so luckily kids only missed 1 day of school. Knocked me for six though. I guess immunity generally lower after a TM year of lock down.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 15/06/2021 23:02

Yep. Lots of non covid stuff going round schools. Good news - people keep a wide berth in the supermarket.

DogFacedWoman · 15/06/2021 23:53

I've either got a cold or suffer with hayfever for most of the year due to catarrh. I've been the same for as long as I can remember. It keeps people away from me now which is a bonus.
But is it just the usual with me now or Covid?
Apart from the usual cough and snotty nose I feel fine. No fever, high temperature or other common symptoms.

BritWifeInUSA · 16/06/2021 03:30

Pretty much every winter of my life I’ve had a cough that wasn’t COVID. There are lots of other causes for coughs.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 16/06/2021 09:51

I cough pretty much continously because of my hay fever. Last year I panicked every time I coughed, this year I'm past caring what people think!

amicissimma · 16/06/2021 10:07

I really hope the guy in the supermarket the other day had a non-Covid cough. He was wandering round and round the vegetable section pulling down his mask every minute or so to have a good old cough.

Whichever way I went, there he was between me and the tomatoes.

theotherfossilsister · 16/06/2021 10:15

Yes, in January this year dp and I got the worst cough. We weren't going out at the time except for runs and to the supermarket so no idea where it came from. Dp also had a temp of 39. I was convinced we had Covid. Even felt guilty walking double masked to test centre five minutes from our flat.

Results the next morning at eight am. Negative.

Dp still felt really terrible and people on his teams meetings told him to go back to bed. I was ok, just coughing everywhere and too scared to go out in case people thought I had it.

theotherfossilsister · 16/06/2021 10:17

Also good luck op. I think it might well be negative. Have you had a vaccine yet?

BigWoollyJumpers · 16/06/2021 10:26

I cough at lot. Sometimes it's acid indigestion, which makes me cough, and at the moment, like many pp's I am very bunged up, sore throat and coughing due to heat and hayfever. I haven't tested, as when I take anti-histamine it goes!

LifesTooShortYOLO · 18/06/2021 09:22

Thanks for all the replies!
Result back and it's Negative 😀
Who'd have thought a runner cold could make me feel this rough 😂

Yes. For months.

Boo2012 · 18/06/2021 09:57

Of course. Coughs are very common and we need to remember that a lot of things cause cough and the other symptoms we are told to look out for. Of course if you have a continuous cough or any other symptoms of covid get a test but doesn't mean you have covid.

I had a reduced sense of taste and smell at Christmas. I tested negative. It was likely just a cold type virus as I also had a pretty bad throat at the time and also a tooth infection. Dc had colds and one had a test and was negative. I couldn't taste much at Christmas. I do always lose me sense of taste and smell with a cold though..

What I'm trying to say is that many many things can cause similar symptoms.

I had a cough last year too. A a pretty bad one and I generally never have a cough. It was at the time when tests weren't available so I had to isolate. To this day I do not think it was covid but who knows.

My daughter has had a very occasional cough this week from hayfever. When she gets a build if of snot it can cause her to cough.
