2nd vaccine appointment for over 40s

Hi,

my husband and I are both over 40. We had our first appointment at the end of April and have our second one booked for mid July. Both had Astra Zeneca.

I would like to bring my second appointment forward as apparently the over 40s can now do, but I'd have to cancel my existing appointment first and am worried about there being no availability then for a 2nd earlier on.

Has anyone tried that yet? Was there availability? I am in the South East.

My husband did. His 2nd appointment was for the beginning of July. He moved it to today

PersephoneInTheGarden · 15/06/2021 13:19

I did this, as did several of my friends (all over the country) - seems with the AZ you’ll be fine. I was dubious about losing my original appointment but had a big choice and booked it for the next morning.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 15/06/2021 13:19

I have the same dilemma. Don't want to risk cancelling my second app to then not get a sooner one!

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 15/06/2021 13:25

@PersephoneInTheGarden this is encouraging, thanks for the info.

ChristmasCovid · 15/06/2021 13:30

I had no problem doing mine - got it about 3 weeks earlier.
It is slightly daunting to press the cancellation button though! As soon as you cancel it asks you to rebook.
Good luck

DownWhichOfLate · 15/06/2021 13:40

Yeah, SE, loads of alternatives to choose from and up to 4 weeks earlier.

Petitefiloute · 15/06/2021 14:14

Yep, moved from 11 weeks to 8 weeks.

KatherineOfGaunt · 15/06/2021 14:17

I moved mine a week earlier. There were loads of appointment times, including the next day. I think you should be fine.

Fedupwantchocolate · 15/06/2021 14:17

I went to a walk-in today and got the 2nd dose. Check on NHS website for which clinics are doing them as it changes weekly. If you are over forty and have had the first dose of AZ 8 weeks ago you just turn up - no extra queue - you go with the people who have made appointments. I was in and out in 30 mins. I went to the Harlequins ground in twickenham but I think there was also the choice of venues in Kingston, New Malden and Croydon.

TreeWizard · 15/06/2021 14:32

My DH did this today. Cancelled his mid-July AZ one and was able to immediately book another for next week in our home town. His previous appointment was miles away as that was all that available at the time.

Golden2021 · 15/06/2021 14:34

Im not sure I can bring myself to cancel!

ceeveebee · 15/06/2021 14:37

I did this and have had my second jab today (was supposed to be early July)
If you do it late at night then you should at least be able to rebook your existing slot as unlikely anyone would be grabbing that in the meantime

VaccineSticker · 15/06/2021 14:38

I canx mine last month and rebooked AZ somewhere else for an earlier date.

takemetocedarpoint · 15/06/2021 14:41

I went to a walk-in last week. Not sure where you are in the South East but they are doing them for anyone who lives within 20 miles of Horsham at the Christ's Hospital school, if that helps.

DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat · 15/06/2021 14:41

For AZ I think you’ll be fine rebooking a slot. Most people are going their first jab and of course for those age groups that will be Pfizer etc. I went on Saturday and the AZ side of the building was empty, I walked straight in . But the Pfizer side was rammed.

Newnormal99 · 15/06/2021 14:43

Lots of pop ups this week / weekend in south west London area if you are close to there.

RedMarauder · 15/06/2021 14:44

If you had AZ you will be fine.

Due to the age restrictions they now have plenty of doses of this.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 15/06/2021 14:49

I just did it. My second dose of AZ was booked for 17 July. Just cancelled and managed to re-book for 27 June. I'm in SE London - availability looked pretty good.

nordica · 15/06/2021 14:52

The worst that can happen is you get your old appointment back. Lots of threads about this and no one has yet been worse off even if they don't manage to get an earlier appointment.

VanCleefArpels · 15/06/2021 14:54

How do you find out where these are?
Boredsillyathome · 15/06/2021 15:00

I did it cancelled my appointment for 5th July and now booked in for Friday, was a bit apprehensive about cancelling my original appointment but there was quite a few dates to choose from, and I'm in the South East

Smallinthesmoke · 15/06/2021 15:04

I cancelled and rebooked this morning, coming forward from 5 July to this Friday. There was masses of availability.

Newnormal99 · 15/06/2021 15:04

@VanCleefArpels

It was in my local area online newspaper fb site.

Thecatisboss · 15/06/2021 15:14

DH wasn't sure about this either so I cancelled my appointment for 1 July, last Friday evening, and then rebooked for tomorrow. He then did the same so we're booked in together now.
