Which arm do you get the vaccine in?

I'm getting my first vaccine on Friday, and just wondered whether you get your jab in your left or right arm? I'm right handed, so technically my left arm would be best, but I also recently sprained the ligaments in my left shoulder falling of my horse 🐎🐎!

I had one in each arm.

SonnetForSpring · 14/06/2021 19:06

The arm you use less as your arm might be sore for a while.

ItWorriesMeThisKindofThing · 14/06/2021 19:06

Whichever you choose!

TakeYourFinalPosition · 14/06/2021 19:07

They’ll ask you, so you can choose.

mayjuneapril · 14/06/2021 19:07

You choose

Whichjab · 14/06/2021 19:07

You can choose. Personally I chose the one I don't sleep on

roguetomato · 14/06/2021 19:08

I'm right handed and got it on right. Just felt natural. I had a slightly sore arm but it didn't affect me much.

KihoBebiluPute · 14/06/2021 19:09

One of the most common side effects for many kinds of vaccines is to have a sore and stiff arm, and that could hamper your activities for a day or two after having the jab. The normal thing to do is to have the jab in your non-dominant arm but they give you a choice because some people might have a reason to prefer the other (e.g if you can only get to sleep lying on your left side then having the jab in your left arm might be more of a problem)

PracticingPerson · 14/06/2021 19:10

I chose my non dominant side due to likelihood of aching arm. Glad I did!

ClarisseMcClellan · 14/06/2021 19:10

Whichever one you choose, entirely up to you.

JeanneFrench · 14/06/2021 19:10

You can choose. Mostly it's the one you use less but that's not a rule.

KezzabellaB · 14/06/2021 19:12

The one I don't sleep on!

nordica · 14/06/2021 19:13

They ask. I chose my non-dominant one just in case I got a sore arm (which was actually only very mildly sore so no problem in the end).

TrashPanda · 14/06/2021 19:14

I am right handed but chose to have it in that arm as I sleep on and change gear with my left.

Mackiemackie · 14/06/2021 19:15

I thought it would be better to get the arm i used least but it turns out that was the side I sleep on and I found it almost impossible to sleep that first night. So next one will be in the other arm!

Fnib · 14/06/2021 19:17

Fellow rider here 👋
I'd go for the jab in the arm that's already sore, so you can rely on having one good arm Smile

Bluntness100 · 14/06/2021 19:19

My first one was in the left. The chair was set up so it was the only option. Interestingly the second one was also given in the left snd the person doing it said “it’s your left arm” when reading the notes. So he was clearly aiming to do it in the same arm.

Cookerhood · 14/06/2021 19:32

I'd definitely say the opposite one to the one you sleep on. How many people do much writing these days?

Cookerhood · 14/06/2021 19:33

They will walk round you if you want the other one. I do, anyway. If they have the same system you can't see which one was used last time, I don't think.

Scarby9 · 14/06/2021 19:33

Mine went in my left for both jabs.
They asked if I had a preference. I didn't.

Evidencebased · 14/06/2021 19:40

It is, as people have said, your choice, and wise to choose the arm you don't sleep on.
However, there is a theory that says you may get less inflammation if the injected substance put into a muscle is dispersed as quickly as possible, so tensing the muscle, extending your arm, and generally using it will lead to less inflammation, so is an arguement for injections in your dominant arm.

StephieSlade · 14/06/2021 19:52

Ok, thanks everyone 😊😊!

I had both in my right arm. I'm right handed, but always sleep on my left (I'm weird, I can't sleep or even roll on my right without feeling unbalanced) so that seemed like the best choice.

Disfordarkchocolate · 14/06/2021 20:14

I had one in each. A bit sore each time but nothing that stopped me doing anything.

dementedpixie · 14/06/2021 20:14

I chose my left as I tend to sleep on my right arm
