Which arm do you get the vaccine in?

I'm getting my first vaccine on Friday, and just wondered whether you get your jab in your left or right arm? I'm right handed, so technically my left arm would be best, but I also recently sprained the ligaments in my left shoulder falling of my horse 🐎🐎!

The one your non-dominant hand is attached to. I’m right handed, so I had my jabs in my left arm. If you’re ambidextrous, toss a coin.

HarrisMcCoo · 14/06/2021 20:29

Right handed but chose the right arm anyway. I toss and turn around at night, lying on either side.

PixieDust28 · 14/06/2021 20:31

I chose left. I'm right handed.

I'm right handed but had my right arm done as I sleep on my left. The sore arm was actually ok if I kept it moving so there's something to be said for having your dominant arm done.

HerRoyalNotness · 14/06/2021 21:04

I had heard to get it in your dominant arm as using it a lot helps with the soreness. I had mine in the left as I damaged my right shoulder and had surgery. Didn’t want to add to the load on that side

I don't think they asked for my preference, I just sat down, nurse was to my right so that's where I rolled up sleeve & in it went.

I had 4 jabs, some in each arm, to go to Africa a few yrs ago. Soreness for days on one side. Covid jab was nothing on that.

PinkBuffalo · 14/06/2021 21:09

I had mine in my right at my request 🙂

PurpleWh1teGreen · 14/06/2021 21:20

Most people choose their non-dominant side incase it's a bit achy afterwards. Others choose the side they don't sleep on.

It's entirely up to you though.

Glitterblue · 14/06/2021 22:15

I have mine in my left arm because I like to start out on my right side when I'm falling asleep. It didn't affect anything else I do at all, and I have even been fine to sleep on it.

JustMeAndWheatley · 14/06/2021 22:34

Right, mainly because when I had my first dose my left was in plaster! For the second it made sense to go for the same because I hadn’t had any sore arm problems afterwards.

MeadowLines · 14/06/2021 22:36

Not the side I sleep on!

Cattitudes · 14/06/2021 22:40

Similar situation went for the non injured, dominant arm so I would know whether the pain was due to side effects or the injury. It helped not sleeping on that side too.

DramaAlpaca · 14/06/2021 22:41

You can choose. Non dominant arm for me, then I regretted it as I like to sleep on that side and it's too sore.

I will be looking to get the booster in the right arm again even though I am right handed. it was the right choice for my circumstances.
TenInSport · 15/06/2021 08:09

Whichever one you present! I am left handed so when I went for my first jab I presented my right arm. However I didn't take into account that I sleep on my right side and had a couple of uncomfortable nights that made me very tired and grumpy.

Second one I had in my left arm and whilst the ache was inconvenient I was a much nicer person about it due to getting decent sleep!

knittingaddict · 15/06/2021 08:23

I'm right handed and had the first in my left arm. When it came time for my second my right wrist was in a cast, so I had the injection in my right arm. No point in having both arms out of commission. As it happened I had almost no discomfort with the second jab.

It's also worth thinking about whether you sleep on particular side. I had a sore arm for weeks after the first and I sleep on that arm usually. It was an added annoyance that I hadn't thought about.

knittingaddict · 15/06/2021 08:24

I see others had the same issue with sleeping.
