NHS Test & Trace have contacted me - need to take DS to school!

Apologies if this has been done to death but I have just been told by NHS test and trace to self isolate for ten days as someone I have been in contact with has tested positive! I have no idea who this is so can only assume it's someone who checked into the same restaurant as me last Thursday. So... how do I get my DS6 to school? Single parent. Nightmare!

@ClubTropicanaVIP I hadn't given thought to 'checking out' - hmm I see what you mean, another flaw.

We were eating out in a restaurant a couple of weekends ago. No QR code to be seen nor were we asked to sign in. We were sitting outside though and not close to any other diners.

To those saying the OP has been fully vaccinated, I have also had both jabs but I have just tested positive for covid. I'd do a lateral flow, although there is an incubation period.

@HitsAndMrs oh no ... how do you feel?

You poor thing @HitsAndMrs.

Also when you ‘check in’ to a venue and don’t check in anywhere else that day, it doesn’t ‘check you out’ until midnight! You may go to a coffee shop and be the only person in there for an hour but someone after you may test positive and you’ll get the message to isolate. It’s madness.
This won't happen. Please read my post about how venue check in and contact tracing (two different, separate functions of the app) if people are going to criticise or comment on the app I wish they would actually make an effort to understand how it actually works.

Sorry @RichardMarxisinnocent but I will disagree. I own a small retail store and after the first lockdown lifted I applied for a QR code for my store (which isn’t compulsory for retail but I wanted to offer it to customers) and I read all the small print, so I could be clear on guidance for my customers and it clearly stated that a person who checks in would only be checked out at midnight. You can see why, as you don’t scan the code upon leaving the premises...

You're completely correct that people who check in only get automatically checked out at midnight. But check ins don't result in you getting a message to isolate, so if someone in a coffee shop hours after you left the shop tested positive this would not result in you being told to isolate. It's the contact tracing part of the app which uses Bluetooth the determine if you were in close contact with someone which can trigger messages to self isolate. You can turn this off in the app and still continue to use the app to check in.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 13/06/2021 18:52

For anyone still worrying that checking in can result in being told to self isolate because someone who was at the venue hours before or after you tested positive:

That's awful. How are you feeling? I'm wondering if I shouldn't have bothered with the vaccine now.
