NHS Test & Trace have contacted me - need to take DS to school!

Apologies if this has been done to death but I have just been told by NHS test and trace to self isolate for ten days as someone I have been in contact with has tested positive! I have no idea who this is so can only assume it's someone who checked into the same restaurant as me last Thursday. So... how do I get my DS6 to school? Single parent. Nightmare!

@Mum2b43

This thread is making me laugh. Everyone saying ignore the self isolation advice. If I came on her saying I refuse to have the vaccine you would all be going crazy telling me how selfish I am. But here we have a person being told to self isolate and you are all telling her to ignore it and carry on as normal???? What if she actually has Covid??? Seriously??? My opinion? You have been told to self isolate... do it! Call the school and explain... they will advise you. And for all you saying she should ignore it.... I really hope you aren’t having a go at anti-vaxers because telling a person who has been told to self isolate ‘to ignore it’ is way worse than not vaccinating!
What is the point of isolation when OP has not been in the presence of or breathed the expired particles from the positive person? There is no risk from this non-"contact".

As to vaccination, people have a right to bodily autonomy and specific concerns about a new vaccine with potential side effects, and to weigh up their risks and benefits. Quite different to being an actual anti-vaxxer who still believes things such as Wakefield being misunderstood.

PurpleFlower1983 · 11/06/2021 20:23

It is via the app?

Kettledodger · 11/06/2021 20:23

Sorry meant to say that I should have said asked not told

Kettledodger · 11/06/2021 20:27

All I am saying is that it's no wonder we are seeing increases in cases if a person who may be infected is sending their child who may be infected to school. We can't have our cake and eat it. Either we isolate and stop the spread or we carry on and probably see numbers climb again.

If this was a major issue, why haven’t public health been telling people to do it? It’s people who are actually contacts themselves not self isolating that appears to be a major problem (that the government had failed to get on top of in over a year).
Kettledodger · 11/06/2021 20:35

I agree people who are contacted are not self isolating in great numbers and it is a problem but surely then those who are but can not properly isolate within their homes are just as much likely to spread to the rest of their families who are still going to work/school?

Absolutely this ^

It isn’t guaranteed that someone isolating as a contact will get covid. Even if they do (which at that point their household isolates) they aren’t guaranteed to pass it on.

The risk verses potential benefit ratio is obviously good enough not to tell people to stay home if someone in their house is just a contact.

Joeblack066 · 11/06/2021 20:40

@RichardMarxisinnocent

It won't be someone who checked into the same restaurant, that's not what check-ins are for. It will be someone who has named you as close contact.
Could you clarify for me what check ins are for then? I’m very confused!
Ostara212 · 11/06/2021 20:41

OP "I didn't realise having the app was a voluntary thing"

No offence but just wondering why you thought it was compulsory.

Teenagedream · 11/06/2021 20:49

My daughter had an app notification today to self isolate. But only for 3 days until sun evening. So she presumes it was from a restaurant she why to last Thurs. Her friend who she went with also had the same. My daughter is a teacher and was ushered out of school today quickly.

Doodlebug71 · 11/06/2021 20:55

They do, but under guidance. "please do this."

People bleat that "it's just guidance, we don't Have to..." then when its made law.. "fascist state". Who persuaded law makers that the guidance needed to be made law? The idiots who refused to follow the guidance, that's who.

Follow the science. Read reputable sources. That.

That just seems utterly pointless!
PeachyPeachTrees · 11/06/2021 21:04

My friend has been told to self isolate from today for 10 days, she had negative PCR test. She is not coming to my house tomorrow because of it. Her DH and 3 kids still want to come as planned. Is this a good idea? Her DH had both jabs. Me and my DH have had 1 jab.

SaintVal · 11/06/2021 21:19

@Ostara212 .. I downloaded the app as soon as it came out and believed you had to in order to check into places. Also I thought you would be alerted if you had come into contact with someone who had tested positive - as in someone you knew and had spent a lot of time with (eg socially or work) - not via Bluetooth every time a confirmed case person came into range.

Just got my Sainsbury's delivery and forgot to order wine 🙄

Oh I see.

So do you check into shops and things with the QR code outside?

I hope you can get some wine!

DumplingsAndStew · 11/06/2021 22:18

What kind of shops have check in codes?

LightasaBreeze · 11/06/2021 22:25

@DumplingsAndStew

What kind of shops have check in codes?
Lots of them, M&S do and others, you don't have to use them though, I think they are just there, well as theatre really to make people feel 'safe' maybe.
Ostara212 · 11/06/2021 22:53

@DumplingsAndStew

What kind of shops have check in codes?
Loads.

I think the hope was that everyone would scan in and lots of data could be sold re shopping habits etc.

Ostara212 · 11/06/2021 22:55

I remember reading in the business pages, pre covid, how chain stores wanted a system that, when a customer walked in, would show up what they had bought before. This was more for high end stores where an assistant could then show you a great suit based on your previous choices.

I imagine the QR codes are a good route to that.

Shit, that's serious. Where are you? I'm sure one of us on here can drop some round.

Just ignore it. Why should you disrupt your life? Track & Trace is unreliable anyway.
SaintVal · 11/06/2021 23:33

Haha thank you - my Dad is going to drop a bottle off tomorrow 😊 it is essential after all!

I posted an explanation on page 1 of this thread, I'll find it and copy and paste it.
