Please watch this if you would like to better understand the situation regarding 21st June and the delta variant.

Very sobering.

Just illustrates the importance of reintroducing lower level restrictions NOW before it's too late to prevent another lockdown.

But Johnson's plan is to let Delta rip through the schools. Giving hundreds of thousands of our children Long Covid. And rapidly increasing the chances of an even more severe Variant coming along.

What restrictions do you think should be reintroduced?

I'd be fine with postponing June 21st but absolutely not with going backwards.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 09/06/2021 14:50

I'm not concerned for DS at all, personally.

ICanSmellSummerComing · 09/06/2021 14:51

surely its just repetitive of what we know but seem to fail to implement mainly, ventilation, ventilation, ventilation?

I mean schools have been having windows open with some moaning parents all winter? Why are dc not in masks?
Why cant we smoothly move to on line learning where necessary? Imagine if all dc did this for a few weeks before the end of term?

I mentioned pubs and restaurants last year with not a single window open or indeed any idea of why ventilation is key? People were "vicious" about being cold. when even a few moments every now and then to shift virus clouds in the air and disperse them and break them down in hot pubs and restaurants would make a huge difference.

I am absolutely dreading winter and more so working in education.

You can't "smoothly" just move to online education, at least not with primary schools because parents can't work and supervise education at the same time. As proven this past year.

There is no third wave. Hardly any hospitalisations and hardly any deaths. The vaccines (and hot weather) are doing their job. The show is over, the Sage cast are now just shouting ever-louder in a pathetic attempt to remain relevant. Poor old Chris, what will he do to fill his time after all this?
Listening to the goons at Sage who are always, always wrong on this issue is like repeatedly returning to an abusive relationship and expecting it to somehow come right.
Note - even NHS bosses are now questioning the Sage muppets and their back-of-a-fag-packet projections.

RedcurrantPuff · 09/06/2021 15:16

They could at least get the position on masks in schools correct. I switched off at that point.

I expect you were saying this in September too
NannyAndJohn · 09/06/2021 15:20

@Waxonwaxoff0 Indoor mixing has to go, with pubs and restaurants returning to outside service only. Thankfully as we're now in summer this shouldn't be much of an issue.

Masks in schools to be enforced.

No thanks to online learning. That crap needs to be consigned to the dustbin of history. Permanently.
NannyAndJohn · 09/06/2021 15:25

Are you a teacher, @RedcurrantPuff? Having to spend all day cooped up in a small enclosed space with 30 maskless children?

RedcurrantPuff · 09/06/2021 15:26

Plus the teachers are frazzled enough doing all the exam assessments without having yet more new work thrust on them.

RedcurrantPuff · 09/06/2021 15:28

@NannyAndJohn

Are you a teacher, *@RedcurrantPuff*? Having to spend all day cooped up in a small enclosed space with 30 maskless children?
School is about learning not just stopping a virus spreading and online learning is shit.

Why would the children be maskless? They are still mandatory in secondary where I live.

NannyAndJohn · 09/06/2021 15:33

Children won't be in the position to learn if they get Long Covid.

I doubt many people would adhere to no indoor mixing. I certainly wouldn't.

@NannyAndJohn how many children in the UK do you think have got long covid? Do you genuinely believe hundreds of thousands could catch long covid? Because I would say this is nothing more than scaremongering such a figure has absolutely no based in reality.
RedcurrantPuff · 09/06/2021 16:06

The risk of long Covid against the certainty of a crap education.

Eh?
RedcurrantPuff · 09/06/2021 16:31

They did that usual thing of conflating “England” with the U.K. @HazeyJaneII. I’m in the U.K. and masks are still mandatory in our schools.

HazeyJaneII · 09/06/2021 16:36

Ah ok, I thought masks had been scrapped everywhere.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 09/06/2021 16:37

Our very big hospital has the grand total of 2...yes 2...covid cases none of which are in ICU and 7 new reported cases in the whole of the (small) city, none of which are children.
Not so much a wave, more a very small ripple.

Windyone · 09/06/2021 16:37

Yes @RedcurrantPuff @HazeyJaneII I’m also in the UK and I’m pretty sure masks are still mandatory in our country. I also stopped at that point because I thought that was incorrect so didn’t think it was worth continuing.

Villanelle17 · 09/06/2021 16:44

I'm in the North West and my local hospital has no covid patients in ICU.
