Told to self isolate when on a short break.

I'm planning to go on a two day city break by train soon. What happens if you're tracked and traced when you're away? What if your accommodation is booked by someone else during the isolation period you're meant to be doing ? Would you be allowed to travel home to isolate there?

I can't afford 10 nights in a hotel in London.

I mean if you get a call from Track and Trace. Not from the app.

How likely is it to get a call from track and trace?

I can see some jobs it could well be.

We had to cancel last years hoilday (we have one holiday UK base a year) as restrictions didn't lift fast enough as we don't drive so were relient of trains.

We couldn't get anything this year and DH has work hoilday issue thank to changes made due to covid.

So we were think long weekends - some to family who we haven't seen for 18 months some of who we can't stop with but have to book hotels and a trip London to sites we've wanted to see for years.

Normally we'd already be think of booking train fares to make them affordable and looking at hotels - but haven't yet. But as there's five of us - it's two hotel rooms and 5 train fares that we'd potentailly need to shell out for.

If we don't go this summer - I'll have two children in exam years and with Wales there's near constant exams and assements that count - so it would be next summer before we could really travel that far again.

So I think we'll end up going cross fingers this doesn't happen and if it does we may have to travel back by train anyway. We haven't in last 18 months been called at all by track and trace - only had kids off in school due to entire year groups being off - so it would be very unlucky for us if it happened.

I sympathise, OP, and I'm not sure what the answer is. It may not be possible to extend your accommodation even if you could afford it, but travelling home on the train isn't ideal either. It's one of the main reasons we've not travelled anywhere since this all started. I guess people flying out last summer must have have had the same risk.

@Watapalava

And it’s that attitude that still has us in a mess.

Jeez. Be an adult and not selfish and sad.

Bear in mind if you’re only away for 2 days you’re very unlikely to go from totally fine to very infectious in that time

OMG 15 months in and people still have no grasp on the basics - I despair

Working amongst a range of schools - I use my app and self isolate when needed...to keep your children safe. 
There has been 0 children dying from covid in a country where schools have been open and students and teachers have been maskless since March 2020... But thank you for your service

@Honey12346
The point was, I follow the rules even if it impacts on my family time and holidays.
Without isolation I would be transferring COVID between schools. We do have a number of children absent with long COVID. I do have schools where staff have died with COVID.

Eh? If the op goes away having not knowingly been in contact with anyone with covid then the chances of her becoming infectious with covid in 2 days is vanishingly small. Of course if she does in fact catch covid she could become infectious very quickly. But this is very unlikely!
