the fact that restrictions won’t be lifted on the 21st of June. I have some upcoming events at the end of June and I am desperate for them to go ahead as I have done sod all these last few months and I need some normality back. I am sick to death of my miserable arse family members commenting when I mention I’ve made plans. They keeps saying things like oh I wouldn’t bother the 21st of June won’t go ahead, oh have you seen how many more cases there are now, I can see us going into another lockdown. AIBU to want to scream shut the hell up?

@MarshaBradyo I think that was my point.

RedcurrantPuff · 06/06/2021 23:43

@kowari

We are where we are and we all want our lives back, those people are presumably also frustrated with the possible delays and continued issues. Some sound like they want it to go on forever though.
Largely on MN, where “full lockdown” appears to be what people consider the default

It was always meant to be about the data not dates, but then everyone fixated on the dates.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 07/06/2021 00:09

don’t really mind tbh, if it happens then good, if not then we just wait a bit longer

Doesn't help when the media bang on and on about 'Freedom Day' for months on end and a PM who constantly over promises and under delivers.

Some mood hoovers out there seem almost gleeful at the thought of restrictions not being lifted, or even more exciting for them, restrictions being made....

I agree with this.

So many fun sponges out there....

Because at the moment the plan is for things to go ahead and open up. My family are just miserable and pessimistic in general so it’s not just about covid. It’s like they always have something negative to say and see the bad in everything.
I keep quiet IRL e.g, my best friends has booked a holiday

But privately I am thinking, why do you believe things are on track?

Has anything that's been said turned out to be true?

My bestie keeps saying "everything is on track" but she was so upset at xmas, being unable to see family, she didn't speak for a few days.

I think she has blocked out the memory.

I prefer to be pleasantly surprised. Like I said, I keep my mouth shut mostly. MN is my outlet. I doubt they are happy - unless they are lockdown lovers?

Tealightsandd · 07/06/2021 17:09

unless they are lockdown lovers?

I was just saying on another thread. The people who don't want measures aimed at getting us back to (true) normality must secretly enjoy lockdowns and the lack of normality.

We're so close now, with vaccine rollout doing well, yet people still want to make it drag out for longer than necessary. Time and time again we keep messing up just at the stage when we were getting somewhere. With the inevitable consequence of it all lasting longer.

What a major slap in the face too to NHS staff.

Tealights i don't think it's a secret, some love it.

I think it ties in to the well off thing.

My parents have one friend who I hope not to see again. He loves lockdown, doesn't want it to end, complains every time it is relaxed, writes to MP, PM, Health Secretary. will only talk to daughter out of the window.

They asked him how he'd feel if key workers stopped. He said "well, I've now filled the chest freezer, the basement and I can eat veg from the garden and go fishing."

He's now going on about karma and thinks that if you do something bad in a previous life, you will get a rough one next time, in a "everyone has what they deserve" way.

I just hope his daughter doesn't bother helping him in old age.

I'm really disappointed, he's such a snob, it turns out. He'll kick off if he needs healthcare and can't access it though he will have private so that's unlikely.

He has absolutely no care for the people holding the country together...well, he thinks that's politicians.

this argument gets trotted out quite a lot, that all the people cautious about easing restrictions must secretly be loving lockdown

your parents friend and the other anecdotal stories on here are definitely the minority

most of us want life back to normal and realise that opening up too quickly is just going to prolong more restrictions

the80sweregreat · 07/06/2021 18:27

No, but the euros and the Olympics can go ahead yet I bet that the 21st won't happen and it'll be put back for a few weeks!
