Anyone else sick of people banging on about....

the fact that restrictions won’t be lifted on the 21st of June. I have some upcoming events at the end of June and I am desperate for them to go ahead as I have done sod all these last few months and I need some normality back. I am sick to death of my miserable arse family members commenting when I mention I’ve made plans. They keeps saying things like oh I wouldn’t bother the 21st of June won’t go ahead, oh have you seen how many more cases there are now, I can see us going into another lockdown. AIBU to want to scream shut the hell up?

Tealightsandd · 06/06/2021 15:38

Some mood hoovers out there seem almost gleeful at the thought of restrictions not being lifted, or even more exciting for them, restrictions being made worse hmm

Definitely yes I think some of those pushing to reopen too soon - one step forwards, inevitable two steps backwards - do secretly want the restrictions to go on and on and on. Why else keep pushing to sabotage the route back to (lasting) normality?

It's appalling. We could have been out of this months ago if we'd done it properly first or second or third time round.

SonnetForSpring · 06/06/2021 16:45

I'm not happy about it either but the fact is restrictions are unlikely to ease. Unless you would prefer people tiptoe around you? I think its healthier to face situations head on personally.

Lochelant · 06/06/2021 16:56

Am I to take it that most people on here think that restrictions won’t be eased further on the 21st of June? I was quite hopeful myself as despite the number of cases rising we have vaccines and as far as I’m aware (might be wrong) hospitalisations aren’t rising drastically. So I don’t get why BJ would choose to delay things.

OP posts:
ilovesooty · 06/06/2021 17:02

It was only ever said that the 21st was the earliest possible date for all restrictions to be lifted. That's what I remember anyway.

MarshaBradyo · 06/06/2021 17:02

We’ll find out on 14th June

I’ve heard two weeks delay or no delay recently so we’ll find out soon

LindaEllen · 06/06/2021 17:04

@Lochelant

Because at the moment the plan is for things to go ahead and open up. My family are just miserable and pessimistic in general so it’s not just about covid. It’s like they always have something negative to say and see the bad in everything.
Just like Christmas was planned to be relatively normal until just before.

People worry about things changing because that's what's happened all the way through this.

Not talking about it doesn't mean it's not going to happen. Talking about it doesn't mean it WILL happen.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

Lochelant · 06/06/2021 17:04

Yes I suppose I’ll just have to wait and be patient lol.

Gothichouse40 · 06/06/2021 17:04

I feel your pain. I wish they would stop chucking these dates about like confetti, as it only leads to raising peoples hopes, only for them to be dashed again. I had to stop watching news on TV, everytime a date or something was announced it just started to get very wearing. I now try to live each day at a time and I do not plan much for the future at the moment. Im really past believing any dates for so- called 'freedom'.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 06/06/2021 17:04

I no longer give a fuck. I'm travelling to see friends that day. I'll just lie if I have to. We've all been vaccinated twice. It's time to stop this shit.

MarshaBradyo · 06/06/2021 17:05

I doubt much will happen if you see friends it’s more the businesses impacted who will really be on edge waiting

BlusteryLake · 06/06/2021 17:11

It's hard to say without knowing your family. Some people genuinely feel we should slow things down because of uncertainty, but some people are definitely wallowing in the whole pandemic and loving the misery.

Poorlykitten · 06/06/2021 17:12

Look, it’s a pandemic. Things are shit. The government clearly don’t know what the fuck they are doing. New variants are going to keep springing up. I wouldn’t rely on anything, especially arbitrary dates set by Johnson. I basically am living week by week. Don’t like it much, but what else can we do?

Scientists are waiting for the data, everyone is.
Poorlykitten · 06/06/2021 17:15

Yes, I know. Your point is? That doesn’t change the fact you can rely on the dates.

The point is talking about people not knowing what the fuck they’re doing- it’s a moving situation. They have to wait, the scientists don’t know any more.
Lochelant · 06/06/2021 17:20

Yes, I admit I’m being a bit impatient. It’s just been a shit year for us all and the few things we have planned I’m really looking forward to, my friend’s wedding being the main thing. She’s had to cancel twice and she’s beyond anxious with having to wait and see if she can have the wedding she has dreamed of for the last year or so. She’s worried that all her friends and family have forked out a lot money on hotels, travel, clothes etc for the big day and that she might have to tell almost 3/4 of her guests that they won’t be able to go. I really feel for her.

Lol at this idea that majority want a caucious approach to opening. No one is even following the existing rules!

tappitytaptap · 06/06/2021 17:47

There are a significant minority of people who love restrictions and having a very small life, however they might protest. Covid has been a dream for them in getting some drama into their dull lives! I think we are all aware that the restrictions might not lift then but equally I really don’t understand the point in being all doom and gloom either. Some people really can’t just enjoy living in the here and now and hoping for better in the future.

User135644 · 06/06/2021 17:52

It's bad expectation management. Boris put so much stock on June 21st that to roll back on it at the last minute will cause a shitstorm. And it's own fault for fucking up the border control with India.

In Scotland, they've avoided the trap of setting out final dates like that.

Boris did it over Christmas as well, only to backtrack at the last minute.

VaccineSticker · 06/06/2021 17:58

@Lochelant Expecf the worse and Hope for the best.
The gov never said the 21st of June is set in stone, so why have you made plans? They said they are following data not dates. You can plan and Hope for the Best but you can’t complain if things go wrong.
I highly doubt we will go into lockdown, but what might happen is that the 21st June might be delayed couple of weeks so that the vaccinations catch up.
Chill out.

Eh what rules are they ? You can mix with people as long as it’s not over 30 outside or 6 indoors and those that do more have always ignored the rules . Tbh having a 7th or 8th person indoors makes no difference. It winds me up those that have said all the way through it’s because people don’t follow the rules . No it’s because it’s a virus and it’s contagious people catch it because we mix it’s what we do .

This gets said again and again but the polling has been very consistent.

You only see the people who are out and about. Footfall is down across the board.

StevieKnickerbockerglory · 06/06/2021 18:05

I've got something on the 26th which I really want to go to too. I honestly did (stupidly maybe) think it would almost certainly go ahead! Ah well. We don't know until we know.

I get what you're saying re your family too. Sometimes people do seem to revel in other people's plans going to pieces and it's very odd tbh, but it's definitely a thing. Is it envy maybe? I know it's a classic MN line "she must be jealous of you", but I do wonder if it might be something to do with it. I don't want people having fun if I'm not kind of thing.

Anyway, I hope things improve so we can all carry on with our plans but, if not, I'm ready for that too. Seems to be a recurring theme!

Easy to say when it’s not your livelihood that is reliant on restrictions being lifted. I wish I and the millions of others like me could just ‘chill out’!

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 06/06/2021 19:15

The 21st was never set in stone, it has been repeatedly stated it’s a guide and depends on many factors,
I don’t think it will happen, it will be delayed as you need both vaccines against the new variant so it makes sense to delay it rather than plough ahead.
If people want to risk making plans thats on them. Others are allowed to think otherwise.
