Had AZ jab today, driving 6 hours on Thursday

I’m 43, had my first AZ jab today, I couldn’t have it before because I was unwell with another viral infection.
Anyway I know side effects can be nasty with this one, I’m due to drive 6 hours on Thursday for a break by the coast for a couple of days.

Will I be on to do that by then? Those of you who have already had it I mean.

Thanks 🙏

I had the AZ
had a rough 24 hours and was then fine
My DH had severe headaches for ten days post jab
Point is it’s hard to say - hopefully you’ll be ok

Firstworddinosaur · 22/05/2021 17:48

43, had the jab and felt rough for 48 hours then totally fine. Husband was the same.

Redwinestillfine · 22/05/2021 17:50

I had it. Sore arm for a day, no other side effects.

Redwinestillfine · 22/05/2021 17:51

Similar age to you op

Mindymomo · 22/05/2021 18:11

I had my second this morning, absolutely no effects at all again from this, although I am older than you.

RuthW · 22/05/2021 18:30

Thursday is 5 days away. You will be absolutely fine by this time tomorrow IF you feel rough at all.

I had a sore upper arm for a few days after my AZ last Saturday. Still managed to do my gym classes all last week. I had no other side effects
lurker101 · 22/05/2021 18:32

I’m in my 20s, had my first AZ in March and had mild-moderate hangover feeling from about 9 hours after the jab which lasted about 16 hours, perfectly fine after. Had my second this week, no side effects except a tender arm. If it’s anything like my experience you should be fine for a long drive by then.

Theunamedcat · 22/05/2021 18:34

Loads of people have had no long lasting side effects i only had side effects that lasted a week because of my weird biological make up ive an overactive thyroid peri menopause struggle with ibs and insomnia and the list goes on plus there were fas works going on outside my house (literally) so the smell of gas and the diggers gave me an almighty headache anyway and then I had the jab

Unless your like me your good to go 🤣

Nohomemadecandles · 22/05/2021 18:35

I had ZERO side effects from AZ and I'm the same age as you. I don't know anyone who has genuinely still been ill after so long. My arm wasn't even sore

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 22/05/2021 18:36

I’m 47. Had my first dose a month ago. No side effects at all other than a slightly sore injection site for a day or two.

Sarcobaleno · 22/05/2021 18:38

I had nothing more than a sore arm, and nobody I know, which is more than half of every adult I know (the other half having had Pfizer) had any side effects 4 days later.

Comefromaway · 22/05/2021 18:38

Dd had hers on a Saturday. Was a bit feverish the next day, then was sent home ill from college on the Monday. She felt better by the Tuesday.

OurSiteMap · 22/05/2021 18:59

Everyone I know who has had AZ has had side effects for a maximum of 48 hours. I’m talking of 20 plus people between the ages of 35 and 45.

ajmouse · 22/05/2021 19:05

Should be fine by then! I had the chills 10 hours later (bedtime, a little bit of a restless night but not too bad) and a bit tired the next day (probably because of the restless night more than the vaccine).

Beyond that a slightly tender arm near the injection site for 5 or 6 days but this was extremely minor and didn't affect driving at all

SpreadHummusNotHate · 22/05/2021 19:09

I had a mild jetlaggy feeling for about 5 days, nothing serious just felt a bit “off”

BunsyGirl · 22/05/2021 19:12

I have had a bad reaction to AZ. However, the worst of my symptoms improves after 72 hours. Although I still have a headache 5 weeks later.

Bath789 · 22/05/2021 19:12

I was fine after 48 hours. I think it's very unlikely that you'll still be suffering from side effects on Thursday.

canyon2000 · 22/05/2021 19:23

I am 48 and had no side effects at all apart from a slightly sore arm where I had my injection. You should be fine by Thursday.

ifonly4 · 22/05/2021 19:24

I just felt a bit sick and chilly after six hours for rest of day. Admittedly I slept well for a week or so after, but I did everything I'd have normally done after my vaccine. DH had flu like symptoms the next day and took paracetamol, but he managed to work 8.5 hours. He was fine after 24 hours. My five friends had no problems after their vaccine.

I think you'll be unlucky if you're still feeling so iffy on Thursday you can't drive and then enjoy your day.

TruelyStruttingHotpants · 22/05/2021 19:30

I am 46. Had first AZ a couple of weeks ago. My are had a slight bruised feeling at the needle sight if I touched it. Only lasted a day. For a few hours I had the feeling I get in my head if I read without my glasses. Nothing else at all.

My husband has had two doses of AZ now. First he had a sore arm and a slight headache for a few hours. The second he had no side effects at all. He couldn't even tell where the needle went in to his arm.

Livpool · 22/05/2021 19:57

I had no side effects aside from a sore arm
but people I know who did have side effects; they didn't last longer than 24 hours

newnortherner111 · 22/05/2021 20:01

I think so, everyone I know with side effects even the worst example was no more than 36 hours.

AlexandraEiffel · 22/05/2021 20:05

I felt a bit off colour the next day. I've had worse colds and hangovers. Had some spells of tiredness but was fine a few days later. Thursday driving sounds fine to me

lljkk · 22/05/2021 21:17

The only person I know who had symptoms lasting as long as 5 days, I don't know why she went to vaccine appointment. She doesn't like the idea of it in her body. She argued with the staff while there & finally agreed to get AZ jab. 20 minutes after leaving she started with terrible nausea & a long list of symptoms that took weeks to get better. (And even she was very glad her elderly dad got the vacc)

Everyone else has nothing or feels between mildly & moderately wrong at some point after jab until about 36 hours later (at latest).
