Now variants have become a bit old hat, what will be the next ‘thing’?

Absolutely sick of hearing about the variants. We’ve got the Indian, now there’s the Yorkshire. Had the South African, the Brazilian, the Kent. Each supposedly deadlier and able to wipe out younger people than the lastHmm
Before that it was long covid. Before that it was causing PIMs inthe dc (never amounted to anything but it was scary news for a few weeks.)
So now variants have been there done that, what’s going to scare and depress us next?

DSRD.
Delayed Slow Release Drunkenness.
Emerges around 2035, main symptoms unexpected falling into bushes, sudden shouts of Here We Go Here We Go Here We Go, slurred mumbling of I Luffs You and Fancy a kebab.
Caused by the slow absorption of 70% alcohol gel over a 2/3 year period earlier in life.

🤣🤣

@Redcrayons

I’m predicting Boosters are going to be big for autumn.
Boosters for variants will be like a blank cheque for Pfizer, AZ etc as every time they want more millions they can put out a booster and say it’s for variants.

Governments then need to go back to the top of the list and start again.

@Needanewhat

My sister has long covid. She's 25 and hasn't been able to work since last June. She's so depressed that I worry daily about her taking her own life.

Seeing long covid being sneered at on this thread had distressed me so much I don't even know what to say tbh.

I'm so sorry @Needanewhat.

This may be clutching at straws, but many sufferers have reported a significant improvement after having the vaccine - even people who have been ill for a year. I don't know if she has had it yet but if not, it's something to hope for. I do hope things get better for her soon Flowers

Curveball but... flu. I saw something the other week (could be bollocks but hey, anything to ramp up the fear!) that said because the flu season this year was non existent, scientists haven't been able to study it to predict this winter's strain, so the flu vaccine will be less accurate than normal and flu will sweep the nation, preying on our vulnerable bodies that are rusty at recognising flu. So then we can taper out of the covid restrictions right into flu lockdown. Yay.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 22/05/2021 21:19

@BoomChicka could apply to almost anything, tbh Grin. Right now our bodies are unused to:

Draught beer
Wasps
Shopping
Small talk
Live music

Anything could have mutated 😱

Very true @JesusInTheCabbageVan Grin wearing heels, hand shakes, getting to the bar in a packed pub. The first time I sat in a beer garden this year the bench actually bruised my arse!
